Man, people are so caught up in trying to compare this to Duke Ellington or something from the past that they don't LISTEN to how this is pushing the music FORWARD. Yes, paying tribute to many things, but in a fresh, bold, extremely technical and soulful way. Thanks for sharing this masterful piece!

Sublime. Absolutely beautiful. Drumming's best kept secret. What a stunning musician.

That ride is crystal clear sounding. Very nice. The 1st part groove is bad ass!

Herlin Riley, batteur d'Ahmad Jamal pendant un temps il me semble...Excellent sur le répertoire des anciens "marching-bands" ancêtres centenaires de notre jazz actuel.

The final part of the trumpets is fantastic and it looks like it took a lot of effort from the players.

Great observation. Even when you apply this to other types of music like vocalists you find the greatest singers are the greatest communicators, not necessarily the prettiest voices.

Herlin looks like he's fanning off the band with tambourine towards the end;)

youre quite right, but dont forget - this is big band jazz - they are playing written notes if its not a 8bar solo! ;) for me, a lot of jazz' greatness is missing in big band jazz... (true communication cannot really live in such a predicted form, IMO)
