Get 4k On Your 1080p Monitor // 2019

- Recently I was in the market for a new monitor. I wanted it be an ultrawide to replace all 3 of my monitors but at the same time I also wanted to try out 144hz. The problem is 4k ultrawide monitors at 144hz are expensive. I found a LG 34UC79G-B 34" that was on sale. There was only one problem it was 1080p and at that size 1080p was really a no go, I had an idea though, so I created a thread on reddit that confirmed what I thought was true. I decided to use AMDs Virtual Super Resolution to bump this monitor up to 4K even though it didn't support it. Once I had it all setup I thought it worked so well that I needed to make a video about it. So if you guys are in the market for an ultrawide and are worried about the resolution and you have an AMD or Nvidia graphics card I would say go for it because this works a lot better then you probably think it does.

VSR uses supersampling scale down higher resolutions into monitors that may not support them. If you are interested in how exactly this works Linus did a great video on it that you can check out here:

If you have an Nvidia Graphics Card here is a tutorial on how to get it working on that:

I feel dumb for clicking on this
i feel like i searched for downloading more ram
I try this with the witcher 3 on msi 27 optix mag272c.
I use 1080 and it suck, when i turn into a 1440. Its look better. Idk what happen with my monitor
Your basically using a super inefficient anti aliasing. It is still 1080p. You still have the exact same amount of pixels it just renders 4k them downscales it to 1080p
wow you helped a lot. because during this time im forced to replace my nvidia card for amd because of the scalpers. im so used to using dsr factor to get 2k for videos ty so much you helped made me find solution. now i can get 2k video option on obs.
the main reason is i want the better encoder youtube videos
I do not understand it my self. I have a 1440 monitor when I use a old nvidia card it shows up as 1440 native res since the monitor is that but on the amd graphics card it only show up as 1080 but when I enable super res it shows 1440 so a nother words it just tells people their monitor is less res then it is and make you think auper res is doing something when its not its just unlocking the real size.
That must be something wrong with your card unfortunately since I know for a fact that my monitor is only 1080p and using super resolution I can unlock resolutions as far as 6k.
Nvidia uses DSR Factor
Thx a lot 💓 💗 💛 💕 ❤ 🙏
If I turn virtual super-resolution on it reverts to 60hz for some reason instead of 240hz
cuz hdmi 2.0 cab run only 4k 60hz max
*I’m not here because I want 4K gaming on a 1080p monitor, It’s just that I was so confused on why my 1920x1080 monitor was now able to be in 4K. Also, when I saw that I had that enabled, my PC started getting a lot louder than usual. Then after I disabled it, It is now quiet for some reason.*
Well I think this might be your answer :)
What about 1440p?
Did you see any difference?
I've never heard of this before, but my monitor has been a 4k 60hz monitor until I switched to a 1440p 170hz HDR monitor from ASUS my 4k monitor is still around, but didn'toffer me HDR or higher then 60hz... I'm going to try this and see what it will do.... 😶
So it worked or not? Is it very close to 4k or what? I
it looks so realistic, I can feel the fire!
I'm purchasing a 1440p monitor for gaming and editing lg ultragear 27gl850...is this gonna work like 4k by using this trick?
Im doing this cuz dcs doesnt look so good on 1080p
your pc is going to process everything on 4k but your monitor wont show it. because the panel can only show 1080p dont even try it
that's not true if you have the super ultra wide with 3840X1080p it presents as 4k in most cases already using that super resolution will make it better even if you use CZcams and change to 4k its 4k not 1080p
And if your playing games it makes a difference with anti aliasing
higher resolutions actually DO look better on a 1080p monitor due to downsampling.
@@Zettey thats a lie you just forcing your monitor its going to brake the leds or simple just look worse
@@lfeever lmao what? Never heard of DSR? Maybe look it up here on YT and see for yourself how good it works.
what about laptop with nvidia and intel?
Just get a 1440p or 4k monitor render your native res otherwise. Its not magically making more pixels display
does that setting make a deer spawn on your car??...lolz
I was reading the comments and as soon as I read this the dear came lmao
what to do if i dont have it on my driver settings i have rx 580 driver version 20.7.2
Weird, I also have rx580 but I can enable vsr on.
@@dirk4emal yeah i fix it just when u install a new driver u have to use full install for delete old one and after automaticly will install new and vsr will be
with adrenalin drivers, go into radeon settings, then the top right, click the settings icon, then go to display and you can enable virutal resolution there
wait people are complaining about 1080p resolution, omg maybe they should live with 480p for a few years and see how much of a godsend 1080p actually is in comparison.
people are too fucking spoiled nowadays, there is nothing wrong with a 1080 display, i have been living with a 720 display for over 10 years now and it is just fine only just now upgrading to 4k because my previous monitor died on me and i hosestly cant really tell much of a difference other than things being allot fucking smaller on my screen.
I record games for my channel by nivdia experience on 4k settings on 1080 screen but I get 1080 video I don't know why?! .. any help?
How did you scale 4k resolution downback to the screen?
you can pair an i3 9400f and a rtx 2060 and render 4k to cause less bottleneck
or ryzen 5 3600 for less bottleneck
That is not how it works. It will use more of you gpu but you get ablut 1/4 your frame rate and youll still be at 1080p. It will just e rendering 4k them downscaling to 1080p so basically just real expensive anti aliasing. Plus 2060 isnt a 4k card for demanding games.
THANKKKKKKKK YOUUUUUU I SPENT SO LONG FOR THIS NOT 24 HOUR BUT 37 HOURS
I calculated that.
I have a 1080p monitor 144hz conecnet to Asus rog gl703ge with gtx1050ti, is it possible for.me to sett higher resolution? Like maybe 2k? Only game I play is leauge of legends and on a 24.5inch monitor 1080p things are kinda big
I get that, 1080p probably isn't the best resolution there. You should be able to set a higher resolution without a problem.
thanks worked a treat lg 32mn500m with a gtx 2070 super
My favourite card the **"GTX"** 2070 super
Lmao
i tried to do what you did but i don't see VSR/super sampling in the control panel and when i change the resolution to 4k i get it but it doesn't fill the whole screen (black bars on either side)
and when i go revert to original settings, i still shows black bars (on sides and top/buttom)
NM got it fixed (the black bars on the sides and top/bottom
plz man, answer me this question that if i download free games from torrent or any other sites can i get 1440p resolution on 1080p monitor.I have to mention that I have not bought yet any 1080p monitor. But I have a rtx 3090 graphics @t
i want to buy 1080p 144hz refresh rate monitor and want to get 1440p resolution in free downloaded games.if you know that i will get 1440p resolution on free downloaded games, plz answer
why would you get a 3090 and only get a 1080p monitor
Why would you want to torrent games if you have a 3090 lol
@X X Yeah probably
Will this mean PS5 games will be in 4K?
Any PS5 games have always been using 4k as the input resolution.
There's no 1440p nor 1080p, so it will automatically downscale from 4k if you're on a monitor with lower pixel count.
I have an amd and I don’t have that window ?
Just renders your display settings at 4k, however you still can't see past 1080p.
No, its acting like a AA or it good for when your cpu is weeker than your gpu and you want to utilize the gpu at higher rates so it gives more fps and not bottleneck as much..
@@lovedone1534 Wow, everything you just said is completely wrong
@@NoahDoane i mean i came here for the comments and people that think that this is real are fucking amazing, its so funny seeing them all trying to justify it
@@zappyyz6368 Little kids who are new to tech. It's funny, but sad at the same time that they are potentially hurting performance in games.
@@shade221 the title literally Get 4k On Your 1080p Monitor // 2019, its not its getting 4k application sizes etc
does it effect card
i mean to say over load or not?
its gonna put more stress when you game on it yes, and rise temps but if temp is in safe spot, its completely fine.
Freaking worked like a champ! Great vid!
will gtx 1650 super work its equivalent to rx 580
@Shafin Parvez I have the gtx 1650 super the msi gaming x 1 and a half months ago. greatest purchase I made.

DSR not showing up in Nvidia control panel ! please help
@BlueLink nah

if i do this, can i watch 4k on yt, will it scale properly?
what graphics card (minimum) do you have to have to get this going?
Would rx580 handle this
ofcourse!!
Thanks, yeah it’s not real 4k but I got way more screen real-estate without spending a extra 300 dollars
Does this actually make the graphics better?
Yea it does
no because you cannot magically produce more pixels on your screen although maybe if you are trying to use it to upload videos to youtube it does work that way
Hi. Does 4k work on 34inch Ultrawide on 100 % ??
it just works if you have 4k monitor go and search the model on amazon it will show you whats the resolution of the monitor (bigger monitor doesnt mean better resolution)
bro ur the best tysmm!!
Thanks
only do this if your GPU can handle it.
@spongebob square pants ye that would work
its placebo its not actually 4k
It scales the image to 4k then back down to 1080p that way the pixel is more condensed that's what I understand about this
@@mohidkhan3775 yeah i heard it could damage and burn ur monitor's transistors
wow this is old
You honestly know nothing about it
Can you recommend a good budget 4k graphic card. I don't game, just watch videos. Thank you.
Uhm the gtx 1660 super
a GTX 1660 Super is a pretty decent card. I have it and I play Forza Horizon 4 at 4k high settings at around 45-50 FPS which is pretty playable. And at 1440p I get a smooth 60 FPS.
@@imdisturbeddd1625 yeah that’s good news
@@imdisturbeddd1625 btw u can optimize ur pc and forza to make it run smoother
You dont game? Jesus a gtx 1050 can easily show 4k content. Waay cheaper.
what about on an intel gpu?
oh my fucking god this worked
let,s go 69th dislike, now nobody will smash the dislike button.
you, are a hero.
lol 1080p to 8k
Lol i turn on pc yesterday and now see 3840x2160
4k cuhh
Wish I knew it was for AMD a little sooner...
Thanks for the warning 😂😂
man this worked good for me
yap now i think im not gonna get a new monitor till it dies after i tried this, might never even buy a 4k one, cause it looks good and its much cheaper..i can only imagine how cheap a good 1080p or 2k 144hz monitor will be in a few years
