Col. Stuart- "That concludes the object lesson for this evening. If the 747 we requested is ready on time and Gen. Esperanzo's plane arrives unmolested. Further lessons can be avoided. Out"
As if this scene wasn't horrifying and heartbreaking enough, in the original pre release version of the film, you could see the passengers being burned alive as flames engulfed the plane, but the MPA demanded those shots among others be cut to avoid an NC-17 rating.
The accident aircraft was a Douglas DC-8-61 flying from London Heathrow to Washington Dulles. Unfortunately, when the aircraft was preparing to land, the airport's automatic landing system was destroyed by terrorist Stuart and other men, and the aircraft was destroyed. Sea level dropped to -200 feet. In the end, the terrorists pretended to be tower staff to talk to the pilot of the accident passenger plane. When McClane warned the pilot to go around and maintain altitude, it was too late. In the end, the plane hit the concrete ground when it landed and crashed.
One? There are many mistakes. First off, they could have aborted the landing the moment they say the runway, instead of screaming their heads off. Secondly, a belly landing is not going to blow an airplane up this way. But then again, if they were entirely accurate, we wouldn't have had the movie.
That looked on Stuart eyes when he was listening to the pilot screaming. All he said was we got ya, that is one true evil villain

The worst part is when this bastard is listening to everyone scream and say “we’ve gotcha”.
Pure genocide. Colonel Stuart is a monster.
You don’t know what genocide is clearly

John did everything he could to save those people.
Almost everything. He could’ve laid a long trail of gasoline and lit it to give the plane a landing light
This is just horrifying!

Looking at the angle of the angle of the plane from cockpit it looks like it was pointed downwards.
R.I.P. to The Great Fred Thompson.
There is one mistake in this scene. How could plane explode with an empty fuel tank.
The tank will still be filled with fumes which are highly explosive although the explosion here is way over the top.
