CLIP DESCRIPTION:
John Koestler (Nicolas Cage) happens to be at the location of the next predicted disaster -- a cataclysmic plane crash.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
A time capsule containing a cryptic message about the coming apocalypse sends a concerned father on a race to prevent the horrific events from unfolding as predicted in this sci-fi thriller directed by Alex Proyas (Dark City) and starring Nicolas Cage. 1958: As the dedication ceremony for a newly constructed elementary school gets under way, a time capsule containing student drawings of the future is buried on the grounds and scheduled to be unearthed on the school's 50th anniversary. Instead of submitting a drawing, however, one little girl scribbles a series of seemingly random numbers on her paper before it is buried. Fifty years later, the time capsule is unearthed for a new generation of students to examine. Young Caleb Koestler (Chandler Canterbury) is one of those students. The mysterious sequence of numbers falling into his possession, Caleb takes the paper to his father, Professor John Koestler (Cage), for examination. Studying the numbers, Professor Koestler soon discovers that they aren't random at all, but an encoded message containing the precise dates, death tolls, and coordinates of every major disaster since the time capsule was buried. Not only that, but the document also indicates that there will be three more such events, the last of which indicates a doomsday scenario that appears directly tied to Professor Koestler and Caleb. His desperate plea to authorities falling on deaf ears, Professor Koestler realizes that his only hope for preventing more lives from being lost is to take personal action. Though the author of the prophecies is no longer living, Professor Koestler is eventually able to track down her daughter Diana Wayland (Rose Byrne), and granddaughter Abby, who reluctantly agree to aid in the investigation. As the final date on the list draws near, Professor Koestler enters into a frantic race against time to prevent destruction on a global scale, in the process realizing that in order to save millions of lives, he may have to make the ultimate sacrifice.

camera angl
We've all seen the aftermath of a plane crash on the news, in a picture, or even in a recreation, but to see it unfold *AND* on ground level near it too is just absolutely terrifying. Especially going towards the wreckage looking for survivors.
And that's why everything in this scene horrifies the everliving crap out of me.
I always say that this is the most realistic depiction of the horrific nature of a plane crash that I’ve seen. The 9/11 footage is obviously bone chilling but it’s far away and we don’t see the debris or anything up close like this.
@@OhioKing_Z you said it right
@@OhioKing_ZI find it fairly unrealistic that there are so many people in one piece being able to walk after that crash. Being inside that plane you get torn in pieces.
The special effects, the sound mixing and the fact that this was done in ONE SHOT makes this the best scene in the movie in my opinion. The sound the plane's wing makes when it drags and sparks against the ground is very satisfying! 10/10 plane crash scene, very well done!
Imagine being the survivor of this and recovering in the hospital thinking how lucky you are. You can’t wait to get out and live your life again, only to find out a few days later that the Sun is going to annihilate the Earth and you’re going to be stuck on a hospital bed waiting for the end.

It's not like they had been making movies for 100 years at this point. We come so far in the 10 years since 2009
I’d actually say movies back then we’re better, as they put more focus into quality and a solid story, rather than social justice and identity politics
@@adamnewton8565 Agreed 100%. If I'm picking war films old ones from 20th century or 60s-90s are the best for how authentic they look. New ones now are still good (some).
Just movies back then as you said have more quality and put more focus into story. Instead of some stupid "batgirl" or character who has done absolutely nothing to be on the spotlight, or has character traits/arc other than being a certain gender, race, etc. Just no development or rise to glory simply given something.
And now a lot of movies are just terrible sequels or re-skins of original movies (cough cough Asylum movies cough)
But with the recent movies now Tenet, Dune, Joker, and many more I'll say we'll be getting some wonderful movies now.
Never expected this small reply to turn into a paragraph heh.
It's actually really impressive how they did this entire scene in one shot.
yeah
Adam D its a shame the scene doesn’t work seeing as how 98% of people on board would’ve died. Just because they do a one shot scene doesn’t mean it’s good

Jesus enough with this ‘every movie needs to be realistic’ bullshit. How boring would the scene be if Nic Cage was just walking around doing nothing because everyone was already dead...
It’s the aesthetic, the movie isn’t trying to push realism whatsoever
@Slick Jester
I'm so thankful reading your comment right now! It's quite frustrating, how many people out there are merely unable to distinguish between the surrounding reality and the very aspects of imagination, possibility and aesthetic. It's even worse if they belong to the average or better educated ones (Go on, count your peas, you do well. Here's your banana!). Do I really have to consider, every single day, thousands of people around the world just throw their money out the window, sitting in the cinema for no palpable reason?! ^^ - Of course, I do have my own issues with the current movie world, nevertheless, it's all about entertainment!

- the car stopping in-front of the plane just as it enters the view of it (quick thinking reaction from the driver)
- the wear and tear on the wing as it collides with the ground
- the car getting hit by the engine and being part of the wreckage
- the trail of fire the wing leaves
- the fact the plane fuselage snaps clean off its bolts exactly how airbus aircraft are put together

Those actors on fire reminded me of the SIMS for some reason. Like when you buy a cheap TV, BBQ indoors, or put a stove on the carpet. I guess stop, drop, and roll isn't a thing.
This scene actually frightened me slightly when I saw it at the cinema, and that is a credit to the filmmakers. The plane comes out of nowhere (as it does for the characters), it's extremely loud with cinema speakers (as it would be if it was real) and the visual effects are quite realistic. Then we follow Nicholas Cage to the scene and the engine is still spinning with that horrible whine, and a man runs past on fire. That emphasises the fact that the plane is still dying, as the engine was still working in the air mere seconds ago. The equivalent of a tyre still spinning on a crashed car. This scene suddenly jolts the audience into an uncomfortable place. A movie can't replicate experiencing this for real but it comes closer than most other movies. I hope never to witness something like this for real!
Truly the only thing that has freaked me out more than this was 9/11 and I remember watching that live.

Anyone else ever notice they are looking down the street instead of across the field where the plane is coming from🤔
What makes this scene legendary:
-The officer looking behind Nic-with Nic following suit-while the plane comes in from the right.
-The eerie silence while Nic starts running towards the wreck.
-Nic yelling at a man on fire to stop running away.
-A blanket conveniently lying next to a burning body.
-The screaming woman running away from Nic after realizing who he was.
-The people surviving the crash only to die in a later explosion.
-Nic sticking his hand through CGI fire trying to reach another burning man.
He's superhuman.
And now he's Spider-Man noir
Check the environments behind them and their body positions, they aren't standing straight on the road but sideways across. For example, you see the left field behind the officer and every object and the road aren't straight on the screen but angled across. They are actually standing towards the fields, so the cop looking straight is correct because he is actually standing towards the right field where the plane is in sight + our eye field of view is much much wider than a camera, especially on objects that are far away, if at all we would only need to adjust the direction of our eye itself and not turn our head.
