This is a documentary about staying 4 months in Brazil, in 2024. Miriam and Peter were on a quiet beach on the Paraty peninsula, between Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. One can only walk to this beach, or go by boat.
This documentary contains information on how to gather local fruit (jackfruit), how to filter water (steripen and lifestraw), the wild insects and animals that live in the house, how difficult it is to surf and how hard it is to venture off into the jungle. Most of the music you hear is Brazilian, in particular 'Forro', (with the accordion) is a popular local music style.

Miriam Lancewood lived with her husband Peter for seven years in the wilderness of New Zealand. They left civilisation in 2010 and walked into the mountains with not much more than a backpack. They roamed around like nomads, slept in a tent, cooked on a fire and Miriam learned to hunt with bow and arrow. Their observations and experiences are unique in this technological world.
Since Miriam met Peter in 2006, they have been nomadic and lived and traveled in many different countries. At present they are in Brazil.
Miriam's memoir 'Woman in the Wilderness', became an international Bestseller, translated into 6 languages. In 2020 the sequel 'Wild at heart' came out, and in 2023 she co-edited a new publication called 'Wilder Journeys'.

If you like beaches, we would recommend going to Brazil. It has the most beautiful beaches on earth.
Water temperature is 28C / 82F, the jungle is right there. The water is clear and we saw hardly any plastic on the beach.

Ik heb voor mijn verjaardag (vorig jaar al) je boek ‘mijn leven in de wildernis’ gekregen van mijn lieve zus. Gisteren begonnen en alweer bijna uit.
Heerlijk om te lezen hoe jij en Peter zo vrij in het leven staan. Ik ervaar dit zelf 1 week per jaar als ik samen met mijn zus eropuit trek de “wildernis” in ( Duitsland of Frankrijk).

So nice that I could meet you in your book launching here in Ubatuba. Amazing that you could experience life in a camping near the tropical forest. You describe exactly how it is: insects, snakes, spiders frogs and hummingbirds every where. We also give names to the animals, a canina snake that used to live just beside my tent i used to call her Nana...

I love how you name the animals and insects around your camp. The Cane toad is where he belongs. I visited Australia in 2002: and at a campsite in Queensland there were hundreds around every light. Another disaster for introducing species. The only thing they don't eat is the Cane beetle that they were supposed to. Any creature that fits in their mouth will get eaten and anything that eats them dies. 18 toads released in the 50s are now hundreds of millions.

Wish I was there with you. I've done Cape Tribulation the oldest rainforest on earth and hope at 53 and out of work circumstance will change to allow me to see South America. I don't even have a passport at the moment.

I left England 11 years ago to live in the Northeast of Brazil. My wonderful paradise. I'll never go back to Europe. Everything is here.
Brazil is amazing, and extremely beautiful. I'm so surprised not many Europeans know about the beautiful beaches, good surf and stunning looking people. If tourists discover this, the whole place will change. Maybe best to keep it secret. 😂

I bought your book when we went on vacation in New Zealand about 5 years ago, and then I saw you YT channel and I thought you were really behind on social media. I was googling for an update on your travels andthen this. Your fellow Dutch who is doing cross country motorcycling has gone a long way and I was expecting, with no intention to compare, you would be having millions of followers had your book transformed into a soc media platform!

I'd rather live in the natural world than the virtual world. I see my YT channel as a cheap hobby (my main occupation is living itself). For me, it should not become too important ... because before I know it, I get sucked in... so easily😂.

Hi Miriam. Do you use sunscreen? Do you think people can do without? (Not asking for advice, just your opinion)
No I actually don't use sunscreen if I can help it. I usually wear a sunhat. The rest of my body never really get burned anyway.
But when surfing in Brazil it's hard to wear a hat. I looked around for Zinc sunscreen, but couldnt find it.
So, I don't think sunscreen is necessary for me, but if you have a very white skin and red hair, you might want to find a non-chemical product.
I just discovered your channel, and i love it! I'm brazilian, and i live in the same jungle/beach as you do now. I believe that you guys are somewhere in Ubatuba, maybe. I'm right in front of Ilhabela... I found very nice to see my own place through someone else's eyes, specialy the way you look at things. Yes, it was so unbelievable hot that sandals, shorts and a top was almost too hot. A backpack on your back would have been a killer, hence my little shopping bag with a knife water, food, a lighter and a raincoat for on the top.

You should start trying to surf on a long board. Much easier to learn. Good luck with it.
Yes, agreed. The only thing available was a very small board, suitable for very experienced surfers. I managed to stand on it, but not more than 5 seconds. I did learn to "read the waves" though, - a good start.
@@miriamlancewoodinthewild I grew up on the north shore in Sydney, some of the best beaches in the World (Manly). Did surf a few times, but never really got into it enough to make it a hobby. I was always amazed at the relationship surfers had with nature. 62 now and living in Europe, I don't see myself trying to take it up again, but I do admire those that do try it and even master it. Keep up the travel with your man and hopefully we will cross paths some time. Like you and Peter, I travel the World a lot with my work, also making those trips longer, to enjoy this beautiful planet.

I have a question: When you're going to these places, what is your choice regarding vaccines? Do you take them? Or some of them? Or none of them?
None were required for going to this part of Brazil. So no, we didn't.
Only really dangerous thing we heard about in the cities is dengue fever. Best not to get that. But I don't think there's a vaccination for it.

I didn't have shoes to put on, and I'm not sure if they make that much difference. You got to look where you put your feet, I guess.
But all of it is new to me, no snakes in New Zealand 😅.
It's gorgeous there. Can you hunt deer there? I love venison with jackfruit.
From what I understand, hunting is not allowed, unless you're indigenous Brazilian. We never saw deer. But we did see monkeys and loads of snakes and plenty of fish in the sea!

For example feeling like you are being watched, finding structures, having rocks thrown at you, hearing whoops. i know many people who have. I'd love to know?
With my NZ passport I think of myself as a Kiwi. When people ask where I'm from, I say New Zealand!

@@miriamlancewoodinthewild A Sasquatch isn't a ghost. Many people who have encounters don't want to speak about it for fear of ridicule or due to the trauma. There are many thousands of sightings all over the world. They were mentioned 5000 years ago in the Vedic scriptures as Rakshasas or Yakshas. First Nation's tribes in Canada and America have been very aware of them for hundreds of years.

I just slipped and fell ! I got diagnosed with Osteoporosis! Right now I am frustrated but I am still looking into treatments! Came arcross the Meeks Method and I love her Method! I also looking at what to eat etc. Don’t want to take medication which has to many side affects. So if anyone has a natural way to improve bone health please share! I am open to knew ideas and suggestions! I appreciate good healthy advice!

Hi Sonja, I'm sorry to hear your unfortunate fall and now osteoporosis diagnosis. I don't know the answer, but from living 7 years in the wilderness in New Zealand, where we used to go hunting and eating wild meat; I do feel that eating fresh&wild organ meat is extremely beneficial. We used to boil the whole animal, drank the broth and ate the ligaments, ate the brain, cracked open the bones and ate the marrow. I think that's healthy. But I would only do this with wild meat.
(In my book "Woman in the Wilderness" I've written about it extensively.)
