  • We attempt to get my Bronco with a big block 460 up and running after it has been sitting in a barn for years. This video has some old videos of this Bronco at the Silver Lake Sand Dunes in Michigan.

    I bet that was an awesome feeling headed down the road in it again. The old video footage was great! I think I know why I like you now, all the Fords 😂! I had a Raccoon jump out of a trash can one night on me in Gatlinburg going to the drink machine, I didn’t have on any shoes and it landed right at my feet. So I understand your dislike of opening into parked out vehicles.

    Neil, not sure how I missed this video. I have always wanted a bronco. Before my daughter was born I went to look at one in a town called Mishawaka IN. After test driving it I decided I would buy it. I walked back to my car where my buddy sat in the passenger seat to get the money to pay the seller. My buddy started shaking his head and chuckling. I said "what?". He said- you are the only guy I know who would buy a POS bronco a few days before your first child is born. Well, at that moment guilt sunk in and a reality check came into my life. It was probably the first time I didn't buy something because of someone else. I cussed my friend the whole way home (over 2 hours) for making me feel bad and talking some sense into me. He's still a very dear friend that I think a lot of, but damn him I never have owned a bronco to this day. Haha. Thanks again for your videos. Keep the entertainment coming. If you decide to sell your old gal, maybe I would be a buyer. You could take it to the dunes anytime you wanted (I am in Michigan). Take care.

      @digdrivediy  Před 3 lety

      I can totally understand. I've had similar situations and feelings in that department. Thanks so much for sharing that story. It is very poignant. There is a reason this Bronco hasn't seen much action in the last 10+ years as my daughters approach 10 years of age.
      I hope to maybe go to the dunes with it again. My wife is on board since we can now take our daughters and hopefully have a great time as a family. I might have to keep you in mind though once it makes it's last trip! Thanks again for the great comment and appreciate you watching.

    @sassafrasvalley1939 Před 3 lety +3

    Look at Neil…. Riding the Bronco!
    I think most guys have a vehicle from their youth that brings fond memories. One that we outgrew… or otherwise gave up before our sense of automotive adventure was arrested. That Bronco is a perfect example!
    Mine was a 1974 Toyota Land Cruiser. I bought it in 1975 with 6,400 miles on it. It had a hard top convertible with swingout doors.
    When I showed up at the chats (piles of gravel left over from the lead and zinc mines) no one had ever seen one. The six cylinder engine made them scoff… but, for some reason… it’s lighter weight, perfectly matched tires and low range 4x4 in 4th gear… made it float up the gravel piles better than anything else.
    I have way too few fond memories of it… a few photos and no videos. It was driven out of my life because of its impracticality.
    We were broke… a second child was on its way… its side facing rear seats afforded no place for toddler and newborn passengers… and, most importantly…. It had the kind of ride that guys craved and my wife loathed.
    Had I kept it in the immaculate shape it was in…. stock T-LC’s of that vintage are worth $20K to $30K today.
    But, the decision to trade made itself. I moved on to the world of Pickups.
    Even now, my heart skips a beat every time I see a Land Cruiser in that body style. I’ve often thought it would be fun to own one again… but, because we could be standing in the middle of a whole parking lot filled with Land Cruisers and my wife wouldn’t even notice them… I think that’s a thought I’ll just keep to myself.
    There is a demand for those Broncos today and you are an accomplished tinkerer. Every car guy out there will advise you to fix it up…
    However it is your family demands which are evolving. This is a decision that you can’t make alone… So, my advice to you Neil is to do what you want to do. Your heart and family will steer you true!
    By the way… what name did you give the Bronco?

    • @digdrivediy
      @digdrivediy  Před 3 lety +1

      You provide great advice and a great story to go with it Mr. Harris. When would you be available to help co-write some of these episodes? I love the way you make a point and respond to the message I'm trying to share.
      I think anyone that has any type of gearhead tendencies likely has a story like this. I have a couple other vehicles I think about with fond memories. I still dream about driving my Mustang that I had in High School!
      Thanks for sharing the story of your Land Cruiser. I know there is quite a following for those machines nowadays. We had International Scouts growing up and they have a similar type of following. I always say that since I'm not into sports that John Deere and Ford are my "teams".
      I appreciate the advice concerning the Bronco. You're exactly right in that it will be a family decision. As long as I can keep it outta sight, Mama doesn't mind what I do with it. We have been talking about taking the girls to the dunes though, so....

    They are worth a lot of money right now. Depending the area and whats up with it 5-30k, again depending on the truck.
    My personal opinion is that you have a lot of
    Sentimental value to it. I say fix it up enough to play with it and enjoy it. Not dump a ton of money but a little.
    I understand the relationships have a give and take. If you want to keep your bronco , talk to your wife and have some sorta compromise. Like getting a carport for it. I just never truly understand that thing with somone’s wife or husband says they cant have this but each to there own. I can see it if its a junkyard or a spouses hobby is draining them of their money.
    Anyway Dont send it to fiery grave. Sell it and make some money from it and let another fellow enjoy it. Either way I just hope you do what makes you happy with your bronco. Good luck buddy .
