  • This is a tour of the prison Bill Cosby was sent to on September 25, 2018. Lt. Walter Grunder, part of the transition team, gives a tour of Pennsylvania's newest state prison, the $400 million State Correctional Institution Phoenix, in Skippack Township, Montgomery County. SCI Phoenix will replace SCI Graterford by summer 2018 and will house around 3,500 inmates. (Video by Dan Gleiter/PennLive)

    After being held here for 5 months, even though I was never supposed to be here I can say that Bill Cosby isn't holed up in some special part of the facility. He is treated like everyone else. He doesn't have a body guard, but there is a trustee that pushes him around in his wheel chair and even gets his meals for him after he gets parked at a table. He usually eats in lunchroom 6 on the east side. I've been sat at a table behind him a few times, he's even given me his pizza one day. Every Saturday he attends a program called the MANN UP program and at the end he usually speaks for a half hour.

      @Bill Patrick Jones I, am a rape Survivor. NO financial pay out, will ever lessen the ONE and ONLY pay out that he paid out, as hush money. He also, drugged these women.
      I, believe every woman that came out many, many year's after their drug and rape testimony. They were not all paid out by him, so they did not do it for financial gain nor is coming out reporting being raped, a way to gain celebrity status?
      He will have it very nice in prison because he is of celebrity status. He is a senior and they take ALOT of naps. The prison will not let him go without proper medical care because of his past celebrity status. I, do not care about a rapist's age when they are convicted. These women came out to speak about him drugging and raping them, so they could support each other and regain their well-being.
      The trauma from being raped, never goes away. The trauma with some lessens and with other's they have mental/emotional and physical break downs.

    because I LIVE only 3 miles from this new prison I can tell you it was built because the old prison had structural failures, it's foundation was literally sinking. SCI Phoenix was NOT built just to "house celebrities" but was built because Graterford was failing AND was over-crowded. Phoenix also offers women inmate housing, taking a HUGE overflow from other facilities that are overcrowded.

      While rehabilitation sounds good, let's not forget that the primary role of prison is PUNISHMENT for hurting, raping, assaulting, murdering another human being. The victims and their families will suffer forever. The victims need therapy, counseling and compassion. They need help to cope with fear, loss, grief, PTSD, etc... Yes, some criminals have had struggles that led them to prison. If inmates are paroled and given a second chance at freedom, there should be an attempt (prior to release) to rehabilitate them with job skills, social skills, and independent living skills. This would benefit the inmate and society, as well. But never forget that prior to release, the inmates are there to be punished! Let's devote our resources to the victims, who need and deserve help too!

We could always go back to the convict leasing systems of the late 1800s so the states are making the money instead. In 1898 73% of Alabama's revenue came from convict leasing.

    • @ouThhiTusKaevum
      @ouThhiTusKaevum Před 5 lety +13

      In Europe we still aim for rehabilitation while the US with their long sentences are pushing for eternal punishment, like people live 200 years on average down there. Is that sterile, crapped, lifeless room a hotel for you? Do you think you can get out of that without losing the mind in the process? Prison models should be Scandinavian prisons, which are the proof that whatever one did, he/she can still partake positively in the society with low rate of reoffending. Treat them like rabid dogs, give them junk to eat, keep them caged for half their life then don't get surprised when they are returning back in with new victims.

    • @TheTanelChannel
      @TheTanelChannel Před 5 lety +2

      There is no rehabilitation for murderers. For rapists they can rehabilitate themselves in a Siberian hellhole for 10-30 years. When you build hotels for inmates then OFCOURSE they are going to re-offend when they get out as the life INSIDE is easy peasy.

    • @ouThhiTusKaevum
      @ouThhiTusKaevum Před 5 lety +4

      In my POV there is no rehabilitation for mental illness driven murderers, full stop. The meaning of a prison is to protect the society and to reeducate the inmate, staying locked is the punishment, is not necessary to add on top of this tough conditions unless you keep them locked for life. Think about the soldiers that kill at command sometimes with collateral victims, even when the country they fight for is not threatened, their job is to murder following orders and interests and I see they get along their life as usual, even more they are branded as heroes by the sheep that never saw post-2000 war footage and the brutality involved, they are not showing it on TV. The discussion is too complex than involving only the every day Joe that killed his wife in a rage attack and on a video relating to an American prison the discussion is futile. All i want to say is that the more you stick a bat in the cage pissing the dog, the greater are the possibilities that once you release the dog he will bite you which translates to the prison system failing the citizen.

      Estimates have it being as high as 2 or 3%, but it could actually be higher given how pushy prosecutors can be (and the fact that state defense attorneys get paid either way).

      Some aren't necessarily innocent, but they have been given insane trumped up charges. Scared to take the case to trial and get 15+ years, they accept the 7 years and head to home sweet home SCI Phoenix.

      John Brookins is innocent! he has been incarcerated for 28 years now. corruption in Bucks County back in the 1990's put him there! everyone who knows john, knows this! he was targeted and arrested 6 months later while they allowed the true murderer (detectives' girlfriend and informant) to move out of the area! the murderer left the area along with the corrupt police boyfriend who retired after Johns arrest! he has served long enough for someone elses' crime! Please let him free! we will never give up on Johnny! he is an amazing man!
