  • My antral follicle count (AFC) increased! DHEA woke up my sleepy right ovary and CoQ10 improved my response to the fertility medication Femara (Letrozole). In this video I talk about my personal experience and results with these two supplements. I'm 46 and after suffering a miscarriage in 2017, began undergoing fertility treatments and started the journey to my rainbow baby.

      Thanks! In general, Ubiquinol is not contraindicated for pregnancy, as it is naturally occuring in the body. However, ,I recommend you partner directly with your healthcare professional, as they have specific information related to your medical profile, that may impact the decision.

    Hi Tanika. Great information on the parent hormone! I am almost 60 and I started taking a low dose of DHEA about a year ago for my menopause. I too have had a very positive experience with micronized DHEA despite my doctor's warning that it is useless and "harmful". My level was low too! Only 50! So...I started low and went slow. I take only 2.5mg along with my estradiol patch. No acne, my chin hairs have almost gone and I keep constant energy throughout the day. This is the secret I believe to good female health!

    • @SimplyTanika
      @SimplyTanika  Před 6 lety +2

      Yes! I am glad you saw such great results. I feel like it is turning back time. I know it's not really possible, but my elasticity has changed and my body is "fuller" in a more youthful way...it's like I'm in my 30's again. I also have great energy. The acne is here, but again, that is what my body did in my 20's and 30's, too. I am responding well to acne meds, so I'm okay with that. I have been getting my levels checked and my aim is to keep them in the 30-35 year old range ...for now. How long have you been taking it?

    Hello Tanika! amazing videos. Thank you so much for sharing! How much were your DHEA-S and testoterone levels at the beginning? and what was the goal level to reach?

    • @SimplyTanika
      @SimplyTanika  Před 6 lety +1

      Thanks for watching! Goal for DHEA Sulfate was to increase it so that it was on par with a younger woman, aged 30 or younger. The lab indicated that the range should be between 59 - 432 ug/dl. My last test it was 399. Prior to supplementation it was in range for my age (46 at that point) at 80, as the lab indicates range is 26-287. There was no goal for the testosterone, except to keep it within normal range. It hasn't changed.

    I just found your channel and I’m so glad! I’m taking both supplements. I live in Canada and micronozed dhea is difficult to find. So I’m taking 100 of the normal dhea. I am taking 400 of the ubiquinol. But so neat to know from day 3-7 you double to 600. I may do the same. This routine has made me go from 11 follicles to 15 which is exciting. Best of luck to you!

      @SimplyTanika  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi! I love your channel name. I have seen a good response on my medicated cycles when I double it on the same days as my meds. Also DHEA has helped in crease my follicle count. I think the Ubiquinol helps the size of the follicles. The one cycle I didn't double it, they were slow to grow. Not scientific of course, just my experience.

    Hi Tanika, so glad that I came across your channel and it was so informative.
    I just had my 1st IVF cycle terminated this morning as my folicles was not responding at all to Suprefact and Gonal-F shots. Anyways, I'll be proceeding my 2nd IVF cycle after 3 months from now and I've to start on DHEA tomorrow. Anyhow, I was not asked to take CoQ10 but I would like to combine it with DHEA. Do you think it is alright?

    • @SimplyTanika
      @SimplyTanika  Před 5 lety

      Hi JC!
      I am so sorry your cycle was terminated. Good for you for doing your research in preparing for your next round. There are so many variables and you have to decide based on the context of your situation.
      Check out these videos from CHR www.centerforhumanreprod.com/fertility/increasing-fertility-coq10-and-female-egg-quality-video/ and www.centerforhumanreprod.com/services/infertility-treatments/getting-pregnant-with-own-eggs/ to help you make an informed decision.
      I take 300mg daily of the CoQ10 Ubiquinol. It naturally occurs in the body, but declines with age. It is safe to combine with DHEA and is more widely tolerated. DHEA is not recommended for women with PCOS, for example. However, CoQ10 has no such issues. There are two forms of CoQ10, ubiquinone and ubiquinol. I would recommend supplementing with the later as it is more readily absorbed.
      Thanks so much for watching! I hope you hang around here. I'm getting ready to start my first IVF round. Would love to have your support on the journey. Sending you loads of baby dust!
      XOXO,
      Tanika

      What is your total dosage. I think if you are at 300 mg or under, you should be ok. It really depends on how you feel, how much you weigh and how tall you are. What are you doing to balance your estrogen/progesterone ratio? How long is your luteal phase? It might be an imbalance with the hormones and that is what is preventing the maturation of the eggs. Follies are growing, that 's a good sign. Now we gotta get them to DROP.

    Hi Tanika! I am new to your channel and I don't know how to thank you enough. Please keep it up. I was told I had low ovarian reserve that preventing me to have a child,I am 37. My 1st ever IUI ( it was medicated using femera) was failed. I tried the 2nd immediately on my cycle after failed IUI, but my follicles doesn't grow so my RE decided to cancel it after trying higher dose of femera..... So now after I saw your video I asked if it is okay to take dhea & ubiquinol before we go for the next cycle? RE was okay for me to start taking both and I want to try improve number of follicles and quality

    • @SimplyTanika
      @SimplyTanika  Před 6 lety +2

      Excellent! It took me about 4 months to really respond to the DHEA. I saw improvement in 3 months, but the 4th was the tipping point. My last IUI I was on 5mg of Femara and got four follicles. My very first IUI was 7mg of Femara with one follicle. So I am stimulated more readily with less medication after taking both the DHEA and Ubiquinol. If the doctor cleared you to take it, start with 75mg of the DHEA and 100mg of the Ubiquinol. I am now using 300 mg, but I progressed gradually. DHEA is NOT recommended if you have PCOS and also it's nice if they will do a blood test to check your DHEA levels on a regular basis. The DHEA did cause my acne to flare up (I suffered with it when I was younger, so it wasn't totally new) but my dermatologist was able to prescribe some endocrine friendly topical creams and my skin is much better. Just know, oily skin is a known side effect of the DHEA. Please keep me posted on your progress. I'm so glad you've found me and I hope I can help. Oh...I should mention, I'm 47. I was pregnant last year (before taking supplements) and had a miscarriage. I also have one adult child, who is 24. Hope that helps!

      Hey Tanika! I just started dhea & ubuquinol after i watched your channel my second IUI was already cancelled due none growth follie... but i am glad i found you,if not it was different story. I was told to get donor egg the same day i found you then I asked RE if it is okay to take a break and supplements you mentioned with dose appropriate for me. I was told it is okay 75 mg dhea (which i am taking only 25 don't care about acne or hair but other serious issues about it. I will increased as today is my 5th day) ubiquinol 600mg . During my first IUI, I only have one single follicle but nothing I was given 2.5 mg femera X 5 days then after mid cycle scan, I was given 5 mg x 5 days because it wasn't grown enough then when i get to 18.9 mm i got triggered and IUI on mother's day I was so excited but unfortunately, it failed my heart bleed and i cried a lot I thought no more egg/follie for me ever...then I was convinced to start over because it is new follie every month.... on second IUI cycle we found four on one side and two on other side, I was so happy then I was given 7.5 mg femera again for 5 days then mid cycle scan was bad all four follie die off and among the two other only one survived but it wasn't good enough even to get measured then i was given 10 mg of femera for another 5 days. I went back for monitoring no progress it was only 10 mm so RE decided to cancel it.
      I am single TTC I tried with my own with out RE for about 1 1/2 years (no kid at all) then I turned myself in to the best RE in my area to get help (I am using donor). Please see my initial base line for 1st IUI.
      E2(53),FSH(12.45),LH(4.43) It was all a little above or below the normal range but follicle count was very low/grow very slow, finally wont grow at all. Please advise me and thank you!
      One more question: how often do you check DHEA ? it is my 5th day today

    • @SimplyTanika
      @SimplyTanika  Před 6 lety +1

      Wow, that is a LOT of days on oral meds. Silly question...are you drinking lots of water? That helps the follies, I just had that issue the current cycle. I take the DHEA daily. Some people spread it out over the day (25 mg in the morning, then afternoon and evening). I take mine all at once. Decide what works for you and what you can do consistently.
      The good news is your follie got to 18.9. It an happen again! What do you to "be good" to yourself? Massage, yoga, meditation? That part is very important, too!

    Happy Sunday Tanika!! Ok I have question, I hear u speak about Royal Jelly.. I’ve had only ONE Fsh test and the Hospital lab where I worked was known for screwing things up 🙃. My 3rd day FSH was 26. I’ve never had it retested. Do u think it was the Royal Jelly that decreased your FSH?? Cuz if so I’m ordering some off amazon TODAY!!😁😁😁😁 . And second.. sometimes I have my menses every other month. What Med do they use to trigger my menses. As I said I’m going for Letrazole next week but my period is about 10 days late. Let me know and a big thanks to u!

    • @SimplyTanika
      @SimplyTanika  Před 5 lety

      Good morning, Renada!! So I think the FSH CONTRIBUTED to my lower FSH, but wasn't solely responsible. I definitely notice that is spikes whenever I allow myself to get stressed. FSH can and typically does change every month, so it is important to get it re-tested.
      I have heard of the RE using Provera to bring about bleeding. I believe the give progesterone and then stop it, which causes the lining to shed. They typically will do that after confirming you didn't ovulate and it is appropriate to bring about a break through bleed. It isn't a true period, without ovulation (much like when women use birth control), however it will allow a new cycle to begin and the doctors can manipulate your cycle, as needed.
      Are you sure you are late? Do you have a good idea of when you ovulated and how long your luteal phase is? Sometimes I ovulate late and that makes my cycle longer. Does that make sense?

I’m just curious to know what’s your opinion on that? Therefore ubiquinol is not necessarily better. On top of that if the ubiquinol supplement is oxidised due to low production quality or storage than it is just an expenseive ubiquinone supplement. COQ10 and Ubiquinol are fat-soluble molecules and are best absorbed with fat or oils. Best to take with a large meal.

    I ovulate late and my luteal phase is too short, should I be taking Co Q10

    • @SimplyTanika
      @SimplyTanika  Před 5 lety

      Hi Marissa! CoQ10 is great for providing additional energy to our mitochondria in our cells. The egg is the largest cell in the body. More forward thinking REs are in favor of women over 40 supplementing with CoQ10 to help restore our levels (it occurs naturally in our body) to where they were when we were younger.
      A short luteal phase is usually due to a hormonal imbalance. Something off in the transitioning of estrogen and progesterone. I would say look into maca root to help restore your hormonal balance. How short is your luteal phase? How long has it been short? Are you confirming ovulation with a thermal shift by charting?

    • @SimplyTanika
      @SimplyTanika  Před 5 lety

      Got it. Because of your age, you probably don't need CoQ10. The birth control has basically stopped your cycle for four years, so you'll need to give it a bit of time to balance itself out and figure out it's new normal. You can support that process with maca root and even vitex. (Vitex seems to cause side effects for both, so I wouldn't recommend starting with that one.) Charting is a great way to know your cycle, good for you! Try the maca root in a shake. Stay away from phytoestrogens for a bit (Soy and flaxseeds, for example) and give your body a chance to do what it is meant to do. Also, make sure you are getting enough sleep and doing some relaxation exercise or activities on a regular basis. Those help regulate hormones and calm the nervous system. Best of luck and please keep me posted!

    Is this for women over 40 only

    • @SimplyTanika
      @SimplyTanika  Před 6 lety

      Hi Erickey Gem. Great Question! No. It's for women with diminished ovarian reserve (DOR) or Premature Ovarian Failure (POF). Premature ovarian failure (POF) is when a woman's ovaries stop working before she is 40. Most women with POF cannot get pregnant naturally. Fertility treatments help a few women; others use donor eggs to have children. There is no treatment that will restore normal ovarian function. However, many health care providers suggest taking hormones until age 50. (Source data: medlineplus.gov/prematureovarianfailure.html )
