    Huge shout out to Luke Howard and Gustav Dow from the Northern California Land Rover Club / Rovicon for helping with the filming! My usual film man was unavailable for this trip.

    Great to see. I’m sure this is what the LR engineers had in their hearts but the regs around CO2 emissions, crash protection for others, wheels NOT protruding outside the arches etc mean they cannot sell this set-up and could never just do a straight replacement for the original. You should go with #New Defender #Free the Beast!

      Right... That's exactly how I feel when I think about these Wranglers and gladiators... Yeah that's nice and all that you made The regulators happy.. about 2 hours after somebody buys that thing it's going straight to the chop Shop and getting all kinds of stuff done to it that's going to cut the mpg in half.. you might as well sell them that way!!!

    • @off-roadingexplained8417
      @off-roadingexplained8417 Před rokem

      What I think is going to happen... I bet Jeep gets into the side by side market... Mahindra's going there .... Maybe they can skip some of the regulations if they get into the side by side market... They're going to have to make a better pickup truck to tow that stuff though... Got to beef up the Gladiator a little bit.... Make it more like the power wagon.

    ‘Bout time Steve! Been waiting for this since Big Bertha. Lol now wheel the s outta this cause I’m curious to see with that kinda backspacing and heavy wheels and tires how the linkages will handle it under repeated stress. Nice articulation with rear sway bar disconnected. I assume that is manually disconnected? After you wheel it a bit more I’d love to see a comparo vid between the two- cause obviously while Big Barry is more and can better handle bigger features as a result, question I think for those modifying em will be whether going that big is gonna require a lot of other changes to the suspension to prevent breaking and maybe if Bertha might actually be the better route for most folks that won’t face features requiring something as big as Barry. Cost too will be good for folks to know. I love the overhangs on the Defender- with those 37s they’re basically non-existent. Lol. Hope to start seeing more mod’d Defenders out on the trails out East here. This made me miss my LR4 Roger.

    Man. #1 independent suspension in the world right here (with your Land Rover) ! I think if I had an unlimited amount of money I wouldn't buy a Wrangler still... Just like I don't have a Wrangler right now... I'd buy a defender like this.
    Seriously.... is there anything with four-wheel independent suspension suspension that can beat this thing on RTI or CTI? I doubt it.
    Jeep needs to step it up on high flex 4 wheel independent suspension. I'm about 6.5 inches front travel 7.5 rear according to Jeep... Maybe more with the Teraflex shock extensions and lift but not much.
    That was good in 2014... but right now it doesn't even beat the travel of a Wrangler SPORT according to the specs.
    Don't get me wrong , it (the Cherokee Trailhawk) will climb a damn tree and will follow some of the best off-roaders ever made... But it picks a wheel up a lot. It's balanced and composed.... but it's going to pick a wheel up every time you take it off road. CTI is like 280 , RTI is like 360.

      You will have more articulation for level 8-10 trail in the Wrangler. The Defender, 4Runner, Bronco very similar off road up to a level 7 trail. Defender shines in comfort, up to 518 HP available, seating for 7, and can tow 8200 lbs (more than double the Bronco or the Jeep).

      1 1/4” wheel spacers. If you can find 37x12.5 instead you won’t need to trim as much. Still on factory air ride. Remove rear swaybar for more articulation. We’re building a V8 right now on 37’s

      @@x5or good call! We’ll try to get up there. Barry will walk right up it with current build, Nittos, plus we’ve removed the rear swaybar so a lot more articulation than Bertha. We took the right line that day that day. We run that trail 3-4 times every summer. When it’s really wet and muddy and you have brand new tires that have never heat cycled, it’s a double whammy.
      This summer, we watched the following fail on that left side line:
      Stock Hummer
      1 buggy that snapped a drive shaft
      Late 90’s 4Runner
      Three - XJ’s on 33’s and 35’s
      CJ7 on 33’s
      JKUR on 35’s

      TJ on 37’s
      Sweet stretched LS swap TJ on 40’s
      1 rock buggy
      My 392

    Is that one of the few, limited edition Camel Trophy Defenders? When aired up to off road height, do you lose much cushion, or can you run it lower than fully aired up, and gain a bit of compliance up top?

    • @cotrails8356
      @cotrails8356  Před 2 lety

      Thank you! Yes, Barry is one of 220 Trophy Editions. We only air to full Offroad height if we need the clearance for an obstacle. It rides like crap fully inflated (they all do) so you only pump it up occasionally as needed. The 5” subframe lift and 37’s allows us to remain in standard ride height through most of the trail.
