  • I pull apart the M54B30 engine down to the bare block as the first part of the rebuild process. In the next video, I'll inspect everything to see what the engine needs (as well as learn a few things along the way).

    The lifters wont fall out if you tilt the engine 45° on the stand. also in the service manual from bmw it's stated that when reusing the lifters, you should put them on the valve they came of from.

    Tearing down is the fun part. Pretty crazy about that nut on the oil pump. Any plans for cleaning up the coolant passages from that rust? Mine had sediment but I just left it, once assembled I was thinking of running water through it and out the system to flush it out.

      I submerged the whole thing in a huge tub of simple green and water, seemed to do the trick

    Awesome work. I want to rebuild my m54b30 also. Any website to get parts?

    I saw GREEN antifreeze coming out of coolant ports! A big NO for BMW, most likely the notorious urban myth about the BMW cooling issues started with exactly the use of the GREEN antifreeze ......even WATER is better.

      @rainvillecreative5410  Před 2 lety +2

      Yep blame the previous owner. I got the genuine BMW stuff. Not ideal to use any antifreeze on a track car, but better than only water and forgetting to drain my system over the winter.

    What kind of engine stand do you have? Does it support this engine well? Or does it sag a little bit?

    How did you remove crank pulley you never said how ?

    • @rainvillecreative5410
      @rainvillecreative5410  Před 8 měsíci

      Biggest impact gun I could get. I did another M54 where I clamped down vise grips on the pulley, and up against the timing cover so it couldn't turn, and that worked too- but it can damage the cover and pulley.

    • @rainvillecreative5410
      @rainvillecreative5410  Před 2 lety +1

      I put them on when I'm doing loud stuff like blasting out parts with air, and then forget or don't bother to take them off. I already have hearing damage from playing drums and have pretty bad tinnitus. Trust me, you don't want it!

    How you know so much about this cars

  • @320iguy
    @320iguy Před 2 lety +1

    well genius, your updated water pump rusted because you used cheap green coolant. try using BMW/Euro blue coolant next time.
    also, youre mussing the cam cover on the intake side, which is why youre are using all that oil. the plastic cover that goes over the cams keeps oil spray from entering the CCV system.

    • @rainvillecreative5410
      @rainvillecreative5410  Před 2 lety +1

      I blame the previous owner... I when I did the water pump I think I just added distilled water and left whatever coolant was already in there. And the cam cover was missing when I took the valve cover off, so I never knew it was supposed to be there.
      I added OEM BMW coolant when I finished this rebuild. Just did a 2.5 rebuild (which had the tray) and was sure to put that back on.
