As a distance runner I’m going through exactly this at the moment. I got myself fit, but pushed myself slightly too hard and now I’ve gotten a pulled muscle in my glute. I’m lucky in that I’m still able to cross train but I absolutely despise myself for not being able to do the hard workouts which I love doing

I’ve been trying to become a mma fighter for the past 5 years. I had my wrist broken in a car accident. Couldn’t go to training at all for almost a year and half.
I got depressed, used substances immaturely. Got fat.
Now I tried making my comeback 2
Years later and I broke my 5th metacarpal.
I know it’s too early to be judging my self, and sealing my own fate. But. I didn’t get the surgery, I took my cast off today and I’m super worried that I won’t ever get to punch, or even make a fist.
    The mental war has started.
I love coming here and reading peoples journey either coming back or accepting the fact that the couldn’t play again.

Ive injured myself my whole life."Prone to injury'' as people said. I remember 7th grade...2x concussions, broken hands before that. then i broke two ribs playing basketball in 2019 in crushed me. but i came back. I felt that I was just continuously starting over all my progress as an athlete. Then in febuary 2020 i found my grandmother dead. I used this to fuel my workouts and i was getting better and better quickly. I was at my best. 2 weeks late while playing basketball at LA Fitness an adult assaulted me and gave me my 3rd and worst concussion. I now have to wear glasses and am still recovering. I have been clinically diagnosed with mildly severe depression. Athletes are tied to their sport. They feel it as their identity. Having it taken away crushes them.

I couldn’t get any better. I went to see different specialists and no one can help me. I’ve done x rays, mris, massages, physical therapy, pain killer pills, shots and nothing helped me. I just went to see another specialist that someone recommended I hope it works I pray and beg got to please help me because this is killing me. Boxing is all I have, boxing saved my life when I was dealing empty. I get depressed. Sometimes I feel ok but the next day or the next few hours I don’t wanna talk to no one,it’s affecting me financially because I’ve spent thousands already. Sometimes I hear my family talking about the bills and that we struggle, everyday I used to wake up and my family and boxing was my “why” my “motivation” to wake up and work hard. But now I wake up just to work through the pain of my Injury. I’ve cried so many time while praying god asking him for help because I can’t do this alone , i need him.

After the 4 weeks he said I shouldn't play soccer until the end of this month. Soccer is my escape from the real world. Right now I am going back to soccer even though I know my foot is going to get worse again. I know eventually my foot is going to blow out considering this injury can need surgery if it gets worse.

Junior season I was the best d lineman on the team ready to show out after missing so much. Then a week before my first game I got a blood clot in my abdomen and missed the entire year. After that all I thought about all off season was “alright this is my senior year” and in June i herniated a disc which caused internal bleeding in my spine. I feel like I need to let these toughs out somewhere so I write it down here. Im a climber all aspects of my life revolve around climbing. I go to the climbing gym or to local crags (*crag=cliff) 5-6 times a week and when I can I go to the mountains (every other weekend or a whole week per month depending on the season), for the mountaineering part I train by running every other day. All my friends are climbers, I spend all of my money on expeditions, climbing trips and gear. I recently got to a level where I had a shot at getting into the national alpine climbing team and I got a rope access job that pays me to climb on towers a job that pays good and lets me do what I love. But then on my last trip to the alps I fell pretty bad, I tore a tendon in my finger and broke my spine which forced me to bed. I've been laying here for almost two months without training without going to work without making money and with a shit ton of hospital bills and having to pay for recovery. I know that I will get back to and beyond the level I was when I got injured but mentally it's hard to believe in myself when those closest to me don't. I feel like dead weight, useless and a failure. I know that in this stage of my injury the best thing I can do is doing nothing but it's hard to just wait while my body heals. I got into a fight with my girlfriend because I was agitated by being useless for so long and I started looking at methods for suicide today and then ways to put myself into a coma because I realized that I don't want to die I just want to sleep until I can actually do something and get back to training. I still have the will to get back up and I know it will take time but I just want to be numb until I can get to a point when I can start training to get back up.

Plus it’s what keeps a lot of us off the streets and sober it’s more than just a sport we fear of possible relapse it what some use to cope with their mental illness It’s your whole life. Iam going through every single emotional and feeling all at the same time. Iam past the denial stage so ready for surgery but just mood swings and can’t stand being around people due to pain and just crying 😭 trying to process the recovery ❤️‍🩹 time and rehabilitation therapy 😤 and then you get angry if your not already Bipolar an injury will sure make you feel like you are 🤣only way I can describe it I have to find things to laugh about. it’s just scary and dreadful

I’m gonna disagreed to a certain degree I think if you’re young enough and you’re playing at a higher level I think your injury if you’re smart is an opportunity to maybe work on an aspect of your game you’re not happy with maybe to get some rest and to learn about how the body works at how to maybe avoid being injured again I’ve had some pretty crazy injuries and injuries it took over six months to heal and while I was injured I would learn about bodybuilding training flexibility stuff that no one would ever even think was necessary I’m not disagreeing with you but that’s coming from Prospect A person who said 22 surgeries maybe 19 surgeries
