Wool is the best fabric in the winter time. I recently went snowboarding for the first time and didn't have any synthetic snow pants or a jacket, so i wore my wool hunting jacket and pants. I was super warm and dry that day XD haha

Lars, I'm always impressed by your command of the English language. I would say it is better than many people I've heard for whom English is their native (and often only) tongue. At least it seems that way here in the U.S.

That 'gray coat' has a pretty iconic look for the Soviet Union. -So much so that the other side of the Cold War practice range targets were outlines of soldiers with that coat on, called 'Ivan'. I'm glad the practicality isn't lost. Thank you.

I can't say enough good things about the Sukonka company and the people who work/run it.
They are excellent to deal with and get help from should it ever be needed and wonderful english communuication.
they are also an outlet for the hunter boots as well.
The suit I have is the warmest clothes I have ever worn and great in Canadian winter weather.
-40 windchill is still quite warm in the wool suit and winter hunter boots.

Those trousers are awesome. I've been rediscovering woollen clothing. I like wool because it has the greatest temperature range of comfort once you're used to wearing it. That makes wool really versatile so I can pack less.

I recently purchased this from the Sukonka store, and at Vasiliy's request, I'm mentioning it here, along with a video review I made of the material, craftsmanship, and fit of it all. I also bought the Siberian Hunter Boots in the same order. Vasiliy was easy to work with, and I had the order within a month.
The suit is awesome, as awesome as you can imagine, and I'll definitely do some outdoors in it next winter. The coat especially I'll wear all winter because it not only feels great, but it *looks* great, too. The navy blue fabric through the slotted buttons are a great fashion statement (don't @ me). The hunter/outdoorsman and the professional alike can wear this coat with comfort and style, unlike typical camo coats, which are a little uncouth to people who stay indoors and write checks.

Great suit... a left over from the old 'Trench Warfare' era. Great if your stuck in a place with little movement. Plus the wool is 80% efficient in body heat retention if it become wet. The US made a similar suit for Bosnia called the 'Bear Suit'. Works great with the gortex suit. still have mine. But sucks ass once you start moving around. LOL.. Unless it's -35 F or colder, your going to sweat like never before. Again, thanks, great gear for sitting in a tree stand or being idle. But be ready to shed some of it if your moving around a lot.

just received my TAIGA(bibs/jacket) on Jan 19th . Less than 2 weeks!! Awesomeness from Russia. Sized for me at 5'6" 160lbs. Warm and wool rugged. Jacket plus bibs for TAIGA suit. Anorak plus pants other option. 162.00USD...all day. I will and do recommend this purchase. I have from last winter- the Boreal and Jack Shirt from Empire Canvas Works made from 2 USGI wool blankets I sent them. Beautiful and wool warm more expensive-Worth it?-YES And now my TAIGA suit. I hate to choose between ECW Boreal and Sukonka TAIGA...So I just flip a coin :)

Did I mention this before? -I don't remember,-but the yakut blades need only sharpening on the flat side. Very handy, no worries about keeping the correct angle. To get them really sharp you need to strop the edge on both sides to get rid of the wire edge that forms after grinding/sanding/honing. If you don't have stropping compound newspaper sheets can be used for the final stropping as it contains clay, which is aluminiumoxide . . . which is an abrasive used for making sand paper.

    • @SurvivalRussia
      @SurvivalRussia  Před 6 lety +2

You mentioned that before, but this is not exactly how the Yakut blacksmiths sharpen them. They do both sides. I will show that soon :) I saw one guy using grid as the last paper before stropping. All through the different grids, he did both sides. Interesting info on the news paper. How to use it exactly?

Watching too many of Joerg's videos, ja??
That looks to be an excellent suit, and $100 is an insanely low price for it; you'd be lucky here in the US to find just a 100% wool blanket for that price! I made my own wool suit a few years ago out of wool blankets that we call 'trade blankets' and it works very well, but I may have to try and get one of those as well now so I can use mine as a throwback, so to speak. Excellent video, stay warm!!

Hi. Great review. Thank you. Americans call the shoulder straps "suspenders". In English they are "braces". The type of trousers with front panel are called "dungarees" in English. Overalls are like a mechanics boiler suit. I hope this helps. Your English is very good though.

Funnily enough, today when I was taking a walk in the forest I was thinking I should get a pair of "overalls-style" trousers like those. Woollen clothing is very durable and versatile, there's a reason it was in such wide use for so long. I bet it would still be in wider use too if making good quality woollen clothing any kind of affordable was more common.
If one eats a little too much garlic, bacon and black bread, "the climate" in the trousers might be considered chemical warfare.

Wool is great when you're camping-- when sparks from a fire land on them. you just brush them off.. no damage. Modern synthetics instantly burn thru and now you've got a hole in your super-expensive pants. I'd rather have a pant that's durable under real-life conditions than something lighter that can't stand up to real use.

Lars, I have always loved wool, but where I live now, there are so many burrs and stickers in the woods, that I have taken to wearing a shell garment most of the time. Usually it is a Gorka suit or smock, and I am wondering if a normal-for-you size Gorka would fit over your wool suit? Mine fits great over my ex military trousers, but the wool suit looks bigger and bulkier than your Swedish wool pants. Thanks very much!

Bib trousers. Americans call them overalls sometimes.

Wool is amazing! Everytime! None of the synthetic material is not good as wool. For sure I will have sheeps in Russia.

I want to get an axe from that other russian company and I want to get a wool suit too from this company. I need help speaking with them. I want a 1.5 pound axe head or closest they have to it and a 19 inch handle. The wool suit size is strange, and it is unclear what size I need. I enjoy seeing videos like these. I love learning about this stuff

I find wool has the widest temperature comfort range of any fabric.

I just ordered the hunting outfit. I mentioned your channel. There was some confusion about the size conversion from the EU to US standard. I hope mine fits ? I gave Vasiliy all my US measurements, Jean size , chest measurement, weight, and height so I hope all fits well upon arrival ? The price was very affordable $89.00 US , shipping was a little high , but even with that $140.00 is a very good price for this quality. I’m looking forward to receiving mine ASAP . Thank you for your referral.

Nice video. Have had some looks at the suit at Sukonka's homepage, but I think, that it is overkill for my needs. But tempting definitely. They look awesome. Nice day! :o)

Lars (or anyone that can answer): Do you know of any reason a duster/watchcoat/oilskin would smell like asphalt from just walking around on the roads where there's traffic? It's to the point where it's hard to breath & sometimes I/m miles from home.

I wonder what adjective you would use if you were to see the aurora borealis or a meteor shower on a dark, clear night.

Hi Lars do they take long to dry out with being made of wool.
