I don't wish this to come across as blind Izzy hate because it really isn't, but he didn't look totally different in that fight, he just got shut down really effectively. Strickland has also been slightly more active than Izzy in the last 2-3 years, so that argument also falls a bit flat.
He was active against guys that aren’t very good in fights of little consequence and taking little damage. Meanwhile Izzy was going through 5 round championship camps of major consequence and defending his title against Alex Periera and taking damage in both fights and got KOd in one of them. The activity is literally not even comparable.
Yer on the money with Izzy being shut down quit. If we’re being honest and it’s been pointed out, Izzy fights everyone the same and a lot of his techniques relies on a counter hook a lot (something that Sean just slipped and dodged so well against) , don’t get me wrong Izzy’s very good at it and it’s why he’s great but his style of fighting is not good against high pressure fighters. It’s honestly the reason Alex won the first MMA fight they had (towards the end at least) and why Sean did so well cos that’s his style of fighting. Other good example was KG, he brought the fight to Izzy and forced him back a lot. In the end I do feel like people can’t accept wha happened. It’s more disappointing when they discredit Sean or give him credit but then make an excuse for Izzy.
@makabertabylons2591 you mean like every Brazilian, and russian? We own the sport. If we're having a passing contest America has more champs then anyone else. By a long shot
@@Makabert.Abylon I don’t understand applying patriotism, or politics at all, to a fight about who’s the best, in their division. It’s MMA, which is a combination of martial arts, from any and everywhere, from around the planet. It makes me think about the fights between Joe Louis and Max Schmelling. There were U.S. citizens, who cheered for Schmelling in 1936, when he upset a prime Louis. There were still some, though not as many, when they fought again, about two years later. Louis beat him, after reclaiming the title, earlier the same year, from Braddock. Crazy, he went barely over half a year, before defending that title, from the guy who he lost it to. It was made out like a fight between the U.S. and Germany’s Nazi war machine. The men became friends, and Schmelling became a wealthy man in Germany, after his boxing career. Shmelling was also a pallbearer at Louis’s funeral, which he also helped pay for. It seems silly when someone says American Champ now, or any country thinking of a pro fight, like a war between nations, compared to a moment like that, when over 100million people were listening to the fight on radios, and heard Louis beat him so badly, that they threw in the towel, in the fist round, after three knockdowns. Hitler had already been embarrassed at the Olympics, two years prior, trying to propagandize his pure aryan specimen, within those tests of human ability.
@@CorbCorbin The only one who was propagandized was you. Nazi Germany took home the majority of the medals, and the MOST GOLD medals as well. Germany 38 Gold and 101 total. USA 24 gold and 56 total. To add insult to injury, Germany only had a population of 65 million, while the USA had 126 million. And it even gets worse if you consider Germany used only Germans, while the USA would pull talent from across the world. As the Germans say... "Huch".
Izzy doesn’t have bad nights at the office. Sean got in his head and stumped him with his style, AND rocked him in the first. He may not have been all the way there the rest of that fight BECAUSE of Strickland. Defensive masterclass.

@@DynastyIcon ..u stupid? I am reminding u he is 35, there is no going back to prime (if his prime done already) 30-34 is where fighters shine the most on average
How tf do you know he doesn’t have bad nights lmao. Dude was dominant for such a long time but everyone behind the keyboard is an expert of what that would feel like to maintain
Izzy looked off because all of his strikes got evaded, blocked, parried, or missed. Not only does that tire you the hell out but it definitely has a lot to play in the mental game as well. Someone constantly pressuring you that is not fazed or barely hit by any of your strikes makes you think nothing will land so why bother throwing?
I re watched the fight just yesterday and Izzy looked the same as he always does, still very fast, throwing all his usual weapons, but Sean shut them down every single time. Amazing performance by Strickland
The fact that Sean was able to stand right in front of Izzy and still see everything coming including the leg kicks, isn't something that Izzy was in any way accustomed to. And that's what made him look flat. Usually his aura of champ and his power is enough for his opponents give him much more space to work with so he can do his 'snake charming' and pyrotechnics. But against a guy who was moving forward 100% of the time and able to slip, parry, and block all of your shots in the pocket and dropped you whilst in the process of throwing one of your most potent weapons (the check left)...then yeah, you're not exactly going to look like a million dollars.
Right like if you somehow managed to get usman flattened out on his stomach while you're raining down punches from back mount, he's not exactly gonna look like a dominant wrestler then either is he? It's not izzy doing things wrong sean just did everything right
I'll be honest, Strickland felt like he was fighting in a Kung Fu film from the 80s-90s. Not showy but almost unrealistically by how he just went on and on and on. *Unstoppable (English not first language) (edit)
Still giving Izzy sloppy dome. Jesus Xmas!!!! Making excuses. Dude ain’t look different. He kept trying the same things but was SHUT DOWN DEFENSIVELY! Annnnnd, as far as fighting too much, umm……. Have you seen Sean’s schedule. Not to mention how active he is in the gym. Look man, this is the type of nonsense that’s EVERYWHERE! We live in a post truth world and there’s ALWAYS an excuse. Facts are, he has zero answers for the pressure and got beat up. The only thing I heard that wasn’t a narrative for the UFC was Sean wasn’t breathing hard.
Omalley was saying how Strickland was an idiot and he couldn't wait till Izzy knocked him out. Since Strickland won, Omalley changed his tune 180 degrees.
I use to spar with a guy that was very similar to Strickland. He wasn't the fastest or hit the hardest, but you just couldn't steal on the guy. He was able to cover up just enough to keep you from scoring anything consistently and this would tire you out very quickly because it seems like you should be able to sneak something in so you would keep throwing. It's like a moving forward rope a dope coming at you for the duration.
Izzy was ripping nasty counters, throwing the nastiest question mark kicks, he was fainting and and trying to catch Sean over tge top of his jab. The fact of the matter is, if you don't allow the Last Dog Bender to control distance and pace with leg kicks, and when he can't establish his jab, he lacks the wrestling and straight boxing acumen to change the course of the fight. Just like Anderson, when you don't respect the skillset and allow yourself to be snake charmed, you've already taken their most effective tools.
Yeah but also Izzy doesn’t even have a good jab, it’s a lazy jab with no power, his only power shots are counter hooks and head kicks, he has a decent cross but he hardly throws it, his whole style got exposed by Sean
Strickland is just an animal - insane defense and always pressuring - never getting tired of coming forward his style just leaves no room for the opponent to get any traction esp someone as fluid as Izzy he did not have a game plan for how Strickland fought
@@MagnumJohnson Being active as a contender is not the same as being active as a champion. The fact that you can't understand this proves that you have some sort of bias towards Izzy.
no space no time just pressure from the philly shell was beautiful to watch so efficient, that what really impressed me, the pure efficiency of Seans style was awesome to watch.
Only thing Izzy did wrong was sign the contract and underestimate DeSean. Izzy was coming off his biggest fight vs his Thanos and over looked DeSean. DeSean fought the perfect fight and it helped him when he trained with Alex.
Even in a loss the focus is on izzy. I personally was blown away by Strickland that night. He played the game so smoothly. Dominated from start to finish! His story to get there, the trauma, the man he's become on the back end of that...he is a light in the dark for alot of people that have similar if not worse situations growing up. I think Sean deserves some praise in his victory. Izzy deserves to be forced to address his latest mess ups. Racism, DUI...he let the fame go to his head. Pretends it hasn't but read between the lines he thinks he's better than everyone. So glad he's not middleweight king anymore. Sean's player one now izzy hahaha!
Strickland's whole fight with Adesanya is a masterclass on pure martial arts discipline. Distancing, striking, checking, finding the right moments, sparring etc etc...
What happened was that Strickland's defense broke away from the rest of the UFC, into a league of its own. Izzy said himself in the corner: "I can't find my jab". And Izzy tried kick after kick, but the checks were too good. Strickland didn't even have a single cut on his face. He looked like he went for a light jog, not a 25-minute mma fight with an elite kickboxer. I think he punched himself more than from Izzy. People are going to study him for years to come, because the defense we saw that night was truly groundbreaking.
Sean does his work to fighters who have a long karate stance we’ve seen Sean beat Abus and Nassourdine and now Izzy they all have that long stance I think it’s because of that lead hand always being extended Sean spars daily so I would assume it’s easy for Sean to see that jab coming because the lead hand being extended constantly all Sean had to worry about is the power shot from that back hand and the kicks. Sean can have a good night or a bad night when he fights traditional stance fighters like a boxing stance it could go either way like when he fought Alex and Jared.
Sean fight his best fight, Izzy his worst. We all love Strickland but i really believe that Izzy is better fighter. he underestimate him too much. And the fact that Sean knockdown izzy in first round is crazyyy. If they rematch im picking Izzy all day.
Sean pressured the h3ll out of Izzy! I had Sean as a sleeper in that fight because of his pressure and cardio! A lot of people didn't give Sean any chance but he smothered Izzy in that fight. I hope they do a rematch just to prove how effective Sean is with his pressure and cardio because the only chance Izzy wins will be by stoppage but if it goes the distance again Sean will definitely retain the title! :)
Izzy looked the way he always does. What changed is Strickland walked him down and dropped him, then continued to walk him down while blocking almost every head strike and leg kick thrown. Strickland was the reason izzy looked like shit, it wasn’t because of the excuses people keep making up for him.
@dejaykydd7475 Tito burying Ryan Bader after a breaking a 5 fight losing streak or Jose Aldo running into the crowd in Rio.... those easily beat Izzys, no questions asked
"BUT I THINK THIS GUYS ONE IS BETTER BRO THERE IS NO WAY BRO" jesus mate get over yourself.... Joe has attended and called more fights than you throw a number at. Gluc gluc gluc gluc for the sake of not being ok with Izzys celebration being highly appreciated. Its ok buddy, You can not like him and also keep your mouth shut.
Strickland just has Izzy’s number. Also I heard Izzy’s dog passed away recently, taking his main form of “training/stress relief” away from him before the fight 😰🤢
I don't think he has his number. I. Think he just HAD his number that night. His pressure threw Izzy off and Izzy didn't take advantage of the openings his feints created. 9/10 Izzy folds Sean, we just got to see the 1 time he doesn't. Props to Sean excellent performance.
Sean entered Izzy's mind (because everything Sean says is true ); in recent years it has been reflected how immature and egocentric he is as a person, in the embedded came out that he attended the premiere that same week of his own movie that no one cares about and was not even talked about in the UFC community, the Driucus situation was just lame, frozen like Elza, the undertaker thing was cringe and bouring, the dog collar just to prepare a childish response when asked about it "this dog about to get unleashed" (The funniest thing is that it's a reference to a Chinese character LMAO), the race bait after Duplesi beating Rob, etc... The beef with his other opponents doesn't compare to the way Sean makes observations about how cringey Izzy is and it was clearly frustrated at the conference. He had to have sunglasses, a cap and camo clothes (he wanted to hide) because he knew Sean would ridicule him and the fact that he dressed like that instead of his "please look at how different I am" outfits confirms he couldn't focus
I don't understand why Strickland was such a huge underdog! People obviously weren't paying attention to Sean's last few fights. Great jab and endurance. My dad is a casual UFC fan. He said "this guy is going to be champ". Why nobody could see it. I'm still puzzled by the reaction.
@@Obiodum_ stop crying for izzy already, instead you should pray so they dont match him against chimaev, he will start to go downhill when that happens 😂😂😂
Bro Sean only won 2 of his last 4 fights before he fought Izzy and those 2 wins were not even top 10 fighters so of course he was an underdog it’s pretty simple to understand 😂
I think it’s a combination of Izzy underestimating Sean, having a really off night, and a fighter in Sean coming in extremely focused and driven. Sean was on a mission and Izzy looked asleep. Perhaps it was being rocked in round 1, but they looked like they were on total different wavelengths. It was amaaaazing, Sean didn’t even sit down or listen to his corner, he was just up and ready to go. Laser focused and on a mission.
Let’s be honest… in that second fight with Alex, Alex was being extremely reckless and got caught by the counter shots with his guard down. He was starting to lay it on Izzy and was definitely winning that fight. If they fought a third time, Izzy would lose badly because Alex wouldn’t be so reckless again.
@@honkeykong1985 Alex is the better fighter imo. Izzy can strike, I’ll give him that but his body’s aging quickly due to all the compounding damage he’s taken over the years. He’s a great counter puncher, has great kicks, great footwork and movement but he has ZERO power. Alex has great striking, great kicks and has one punch knockout power. He gets in trouble when he drops his guard and gets reckless. Just like Sean said after training with him… “all offense, no defense.”
@@BraveNewWorld76 saying Izzy has zero power is just pure hating at this point 😂 yeah he isn't a big power puncher or one-hit-KO power like Suga Sean but he isn't feather fisted either cmon now
@@CamMackay96 was there 1 time in his fight with Strickland where Izzy rocked him or had him even remotely hurt? The reason he lost to Sean is because he lacks power and Sean has fantastic defense. Izzy literally couldn’t do anything against Strickland in that fight. His faints, his movement, his little tricks to get you to overreact for the counter strike weren’t working and then throw in his lack of power. That’s why Sean spent 25 minutes walking him down. He wasn’t afraid of getting KO’ed with a power shot like what happened against Alex.
*Eugene himself said in a post-fight interview that they were beaten by Sean shutting down all of Izzy's tricks. I've no idea why it's so difficult for people to see that. Tarzan was the better man, and Eric Nicksick was the mastermind behind the game-plan.*
Pressure fighters like Strickland are a nightmare for most fighters, unless you’ve got good counter striking and movement Izzy didn’t make enough use of those skills in that fight. Strickland style is simple yet incredibly effective.
Izzy was outclassed simple, that being said I highly doubt Sean is hitting 5 title defences like Izzy I have a feeling hes gonna be one of those flash in the pan champs
Styles make fights, Stricklands defense was too good to believe, even he was shocked by the ease of the win - just because you won or lost to a common opponent isn't any kind of crystal ball in MMA and that's why it kicks ass the hardest, and the sportsmanship is usually off the charts for just being beaten on by the guy you're thanking for the fight!

He was active against guys that aren’t very good in fights of little consequence and taking little damage. Meanwhile Izzy was going through 5 round championship camps of major consequence and defending his title against Alex Periera and taking damage in both fights and got KOd in one of them. The activity is literally not even comparable.
@@FreefallSCcasual
Exactly he looked great after the knockdown because he actually won the 2nd rf.

I don’t understand applying patriotism, or politics at all, to a fight about who’s the best, in their division.

Really was a defensive masterclass beautiful
They try so hard to control narrative because their boy izzy lost 😂 Izzy 35 yo 4-3 in last 2 years and was whooped 5 rounds straight while running and being mocked for it by guy he called neo nazii

This whole comment section seems to insist that Izzy was slower, so much cap going on
Watching it live was insane, couldn’t believe Izzy couldn’t even hit him clean
Izzy didnt look any different, dont even start
The fact that Sean was able to stand right in front of Izzy and still see everything coming including the leg kicks, isn't something that Izzy was in any way accustomed to. And that's what made him look flat. Usually his aura of champ and his power is enough for his opponents give him much more space to work with so he can do his 'snake charming' and pyrotechnics. But against a guy who was moving forward 100% of the time and able to slip, parry, and block all of your shots in the pocket and dropped you whilst in the process of throwing one of your most potent weapons (the check left)...then yeah, you're not exactly going to look like a million dollars.
word

Strickland's cardio is out of this world. He's never stops. His like a human tank.

Izzy didn’t have an off night, he looked insanely relaxed and confident in the walkout, meanwhile both Sean’s looked nervous walking out.
no space no time just pressure from the philly shell was beautiful to watch so efficient, that what really impressed me, the pure efficiency of Seans style was awesome to watch.
Nice work Deshaun
Sean’s defense was insane
Let's goooo with that banger Joe!!!
I think a trainer that is top notch gives great corner advise, calm in the moment is rarer than a fighter that can be champion.
That front kick was the ultimate pace maker
Eugene is so respectful towards his fighters opponents. It’s very moving to hear him express it and speak
People are going to study him for years to come, because the defense we saw that night was truly groundbreaking.
god the meatriding...
How many stars share the spotlight the way champ does with Tim?? Good young man right there.
Tim has been his coach, and best friend for a very long time. Sean treats his friends like family from what I gather.
Strickland dominated every aspect of that fight. Crazy cardio and focus.
Sean’s the champ
Izzy didn't have an off night. Sean's just a stylistic nightmare for him.

Strickland was like an Animal from the get go Izzy didn't know wat to do
I think it’s a combination of Izzy underestimating Sean, having a really off night, and a fighter in Sean coming in extremely focused and driven.
Nah sean was just better
Let’s be honest… in that second fight with Alex, Alex was being extremely reckless and got caught by the counter shots with his guard down. He was starting to lay it on Izzy and was definitely winning that fight. If they fought a third time, Izzy would lose badly because Alex wouldn’t be so reckless again.
Israel would lose 9/10.
"almost won" just like all the previous 3 fights where Izzy was winning before losing? Right?
@@honkeykong1985 Alex is the better fighter imo. Izzy can strike, I’ll give him that but his body’s aging quickly due to all the compounding damage he’s taken over the years.
