  • £2k one week electrical short course ..... Justin Watson joins me to explain what happened to him and where he is now.
From realising a one week course was not what was needed to finding employment and getting himself on a CPS approved route to work in the domestic sector. Along with taking an online wiring regulations course with Sparky ninja.
Justin is now well on the path to becoming qualified and completing his portfolio with LCL.
We share a few opinions around short course training and the difficulties re-trainees have in avoiding them and some of the missold courses across industry.

Might I add im prepared to mount a defence for short course development, accepting there are justified reasons for caution

Had a very similar experience with a training company who I wont name here, I was sold a "full scope electrician" course including NVQ level 3 and AM2 assessment, but they were very light on the details specifically regarding routes to the industry and additional steps needed to actually work as an electrician.

Sadly very common. Did you find a way to make it work?

@@A121podcast I have done 9 weeks in a training centre, and to be fair the training centre is very good and the tutors have given me some prep material for AM2 and NVQ, but I don't work directly in the industry so I believe that will be a barrier to achieving the qualification. Originally they said the training provider runs building projects and you could get experience working on those, but that appears to be a direct lie at this point.

It was good to hear Justin's story. Shame he was robbed by a dodgy training company. It is worth taking them to small claims court just to educate them for mis selling the course.

Super interesting. I'd like to know more about the AMD Domestic, will they rationalise the NVQ3 to align with this? Ive just done 18th, 2362 and Part P and am about to start a week doing EV charger. Am only interested in domestic, keen to learn my progression options. Current plan is offer non notifiable work as I build

The domestic electrician standard will have its own version of AM2 and full time study routes.

@@A121podcast Thanks, as I investigate further I am realising, to some extent, the training provider has been misleading in 'selling me' the training package and what can be achieved with it.
