    I do a henna treatment every 2 months. I add hibiscus and aloe vera powder to my mix. I only use a mix of chamomile & green tea to release the dye. I don't use harsh acids for dye release as it's not necessary. My mix is the consistency of yogurt. To combat the dryness, I oil my strands before adding the henna and after I deep condition with a natural. Gray is gone, hair is strong and moisturized.

    Started my year of Ayurveda this January 2022. For New Years I made a year’s worth of Herbal and Henna gloss bars that I alternate every 2 weeks (henna is every 2 months on my schedule-so sorry for the damage you experienced). I always go back to your videos because they were so informative. Thank you for putting yourself out here this way ❤️🙏🏾❤️ and recording it.
    While I’m not an oil person, I do like using teas and I even tried making a set of shampoo bars 😅 gonna try one in the next week. This week was my first henna gloss. All my glosses have been lovely and I love melting, mixing in a conditioner and applying over night. Very simple reliable routine that doesn’t overwhelm me

  • @elizabethwantland1127
    @elizabethwantland1127 Před 5 lety +22

    I did the challenge all year with you and the gang. Still doing it in moderation. Had some setbacks as you did with the Henna giving my hair too much protein, but using fermented rice water to mix up the Henna prevented any more brittleness. I also used freshly made rice water (from making rice) to mix up my Indigo in order to increase the brown in my hair color, and adding Himalayan pink salt to it to increase the depth of the color. Had to go back to using my aloe vera gel spray, too. Ayurveda is very strengthening and can brittle fine hair out fast, so I apply nothing but JBCO to my hair after Henna treatment and my hair sucks it right up and is super soft. Then low management for a few days and then wash it and apply my Indigo treatment, aloe vera spray, and JBCO. I was amazed at my increased hair length going from shoulder to bra strap length and the very center back piece I could stretch pass mid back. That shocked me. I wish all the length did that, but one of the setbacks came from too much over drying and causing my hair to mat overnight. Ugh! That was horrible to get out. I did manage to blow dry my hair and hot brush it to take a picture of its length. Now back to the good old basics and time to make some flaxseed gel, coconut oil, fenugreek spritz, hibiscus rinse, and soapnut shampoo. One definite thing that I noticed during this challenge was that my hair stopped liking store-bought shampoos, conditioners, and products, and I had to buy a shower head filter to get rid of the hard water and chlorine that was also drying out my hair. Wow, many changes this past year, but most of them beneficial.

    • @selamhazel4708
      @selamhazel4708 Před 2 lety

      Isn’t rice water protein though? Which would cause more damage if you’re already dealing with protein overload from the henna?

    • @elizabethwantland1127
      @elizabethwantland1127 Před 2 lety +1

      Yes, rice water has protein in it too, but I never ferment it more than a few hours, and my henna treatment is no more than 2 hours now. Then I rinse it out, apply the Indigo for an hour, and then rinse that out. I did not incorporate deep conditioning in my hair routine at that time. It makes all the difference. If you use Henna or Indigo or rice water you also need to deep condition and keep your hair very moisturized. Same goes with hard chlorinated water. Store bought products add protein too, so I just needed to back off the additional proteins including nut oils, and make sure to add deep conditioning into my regimen. My fine hair had been in-between low and high porosity until I blow dried and flat ironed it for graduation, and afterwards it behaved like high porosity hair. It took a year for it to stop being so dry.

    Yes using henna every month is too much I believe the certification expert said 4 to 6 or 6 to 8 weeks depending on your hair. If you're doing regular treatments minus the henna every 2-3 weeks . if you're using indigo to cover Gray's you can do that every 4 to 6 weeks. Also when using henna not only do you need to make sure you have the finest quality but you definitely need to add organic full aloe vera leaf powder you want the whole Leaf in powder form. It's a game changer when it comes to henna and moisture moisture. That's why everybody thinks it's dry they aren't using the proper moisture ingredients along with it they want to use a lot of coconut milk and ECT Dot. but not necessary when you use the proper powders/Ingredients . You can use some but it depends on what you doing.

    I really enjoyed the challenge, discovered that a great deal of my moisture issues was from over using henna to color my greys. I love using the herbs, but have accepted that my hair response better if I do a oil infusion or a water infusion. Using the herbal paste to much on my fine strands was causing some problems. However, Ayurvedic treatments have made my hair thicker, stronger, and more manageable. Now I just need to be more consistent with using them. Plus listen to my hair and not what I want to TRY!

    • @furrsmith8131
      @furrsmith8131 Před 4 lety +4

      Nap Freedom215 when you use henna you need to deeeeeep condition. So you can work around it. Use the henna on the new greys so you don’t have to use it often. You can also deep conditioner twice if once doesn’t make your strands soft. Eg. I use henna every two weeks and I add conditioner and oils to it . Then I use a conditioner, glycerine and a few oils. After this my hair is super soft. Henna is really good all round. Don’t give up. Just use it in a different way. Read up on henna glosses too.

    Awesome.! I started using henna and Ayurvedic powders for scalp issues and found that it was a bit drying too so I mix aloe Vera powder with it and only use it every other month. My hair has responded much better.and my scalp is healthier. Congrats on sticking to the challenge!

      My hair is much thicker, fuller, and has a lot of volume. 🌺 It is as if the dormant hairs caught up with the longer hair strands. Also, I was able to pay closer attention to my hair. Now I know what my hair likes and don’t like. I’ve never paid such close attention to my hair before. Thanks Ife! ❤️

    • @Ife360TVOnline
      @Ife360TVOnline  Před 5 lety +2

      I agree with paying closer attention, also, I was more patient with my hair, because I knew I was doing the challenge for 1 year so I was more observant!@@TwistsandTurbans

    • @TwistsandTurbans
      @TwistsandTurbans Před 5 lety

      @@Ife360TVOnline Oh Yes, patience is very important. The problem I had is that I was doing way too much with my hair. It can get very humid where I live and there is always moisture in the air throughout the winter and summer. Therefore, I was always styling my hair. Also, I decided a few months ago to give henna and hair coloring a break so I can maintain my hair in its natural state. Right now I am all about keeping my hairstyles simple and making use of head wrapping!
      The purpose of a hair challenge is to become more informed with our hair and trying new things that will help our hair thrive! I enjoy using herbs and natural ingredients in my hair and on my skin!
      I look forward to the 2019 hair challenge!
