- In 2001, the Colorado Avalanche dominated the regular season, winning the Presidents Trophy before rolling into the playoff with Joe Sakic, Patrick Roy and veteran Raymond Bourque. Down 3-2 in the series, Bourque made a statement to the team that helped motivate a Game 7 comeback.

I’m a die hard Bruins fan, and this remains as my favourite sports moment of all time. Best assist of Sakic’s career.
I still watch it an get goosebumps. Only a few things give me goosebumps every time I watch it and this is one. The moment, the call and everything was perfect
I remember my brother watching this. I wasn't into hockey but now when I watch this it makes me cry. I became a true Avs fan in 2012. So watching them raise the cup a few nights ago was so amazing.
I remember watching this with my family back in 2001. Just by happenstance I was in town this time around watching game 6 with them as well. Brought back great memories.
Great to see my avalanche back on championship level they deserve it!!
I wish there was a full length documentary about Bourque’s last two seasons. It’s one of the best stories in NHL history.
"After twenty-two years, RAYMOND BOURQUE"
if that doesn't make you cry you're not human 😭😭😭
Tears to my eyes to this day. One of the most beautiful moments in sports history.
Awesome video! Such a special moment at the end.
Chills. So many legends on that team. Thank you, Pierre.
Still brings me to tears..... loved me some Ray Bourque.
Sakic, Roy, Forsberg and Bourque - that's a pretty good team
My Uncle and Aunt were part of the organization and were really good friends with Hinote and got to drink out the cup at his party in Minnesota. What a time.
Watched Game 7 at my dad’s place when I was 17. Watched Game 6 of this year’s Cup Final at my dads place again. Same emotions.
I only got to see the last 7 minutes of that game 7 as I was driving home. Listened on the radio though. Awesome the only way to describe it.
Great job by Todd Romero and the edit staff!
Most memorable lift
Great video!!! I didn’t see them win either of their first two cups since I wasn’t a fan of hockey back then. My husband introduced to me the Avs and the game of hockey in 2002. Been cheering for the Avs through the good and bad times since then!
After Borque's speech the Avs outscored the Devils 7-1.
Imagine Landeskog gave it to Sakic without lifting it over his head... That would've been iconic!
Wouldn't make sense. Sakic handed it to Bourque not just because he is a class act, but also because he had already hoisted it. Landeskog had not. So had Erik Johnson.
English is not my native language, but I hope you got me right
Best captain. #19
These videos are awesome.
One of the greatest Stanley cup lifts of all time. Super Joe very classy on his part to give Bourque the cup so that he could hoist first. Mission 16W Complete. Go Avs Go !!!
Great year, Kobe and Shaq win and the AVS win.
One of the most memorable Stanley Cup-winning moments in NHL history, when Sakic immediately passed the Cup over to Ray Bourque, who finally got to lift the Cup after 21 seasons, in what was his final NHL game. Truly an emotional moment for sure.
Totally epic! 💪 🔥
This 3 Stanley Cup for the Avs is great but it isn't even close to as emotional as the 2001 run. Still brings a tear to my eye when Bourque lifted the Cup, Sakic is such a class act and his handoff to Ray will go down in history as one of the most memorable.
That was such an amazing season.
Congats! On winning the Stanley Cup.
20 years in the future people will (hopefully) watch similar stuff about this year's champs.
Please release to Stanley Cup Finals recap already!!
I was born in 01 but I got to see the Avs lift the cup 21 years later
These stories are much, much too short. Make this an hour long documentary please.
Those already exist. There's documentaries for both the 96 and 01 cup runs that are both excellent.
The series against the Lightning was well fought.
ray bourque getting the cup was not the first time the captain handed it off instead of taking the lap, gretzky handed the cup to steve smith after winning in 1987 because of the own goal smith scored the previous year on his birthday to eliminate the oilers
I lived in Quebec until 1990, used to go to the Nordiques games. Moved to California, and followed the Nordiques and then the Avs. 21 years we waited for another cup. Can't stop smiling.
Recently found out that devils fans are still mad about this...
Still remember how Sakic immediately passed to Bourque. What a great captain!
The 2001 Avalanche did brilliant on winning the cup. 😀👍🏒
