  • There are common things most of us do every morning that actually make our days a-lot harder and more complex than they have to be. As a minimalist ive been developing a morning routine and some minimalist habits that have really helped me be less busy and more focused in the morning.

Drinking water, drinking coffee, no breakfast if not *really* hungry.
Then get dressed, no media except music (f.e. radio), do your work first, then freetime..
I'm a tidy-up-in the morning person to get my day right.
      With coffee of course.

I always went blindly in to the morning. I have to have structure otherwise my day goes south quickly. 🙃 I do daily devotions, 🙏 meditate 🧘‍♀️ and yoga, journal and stretching ot go for a walk. In the summer and fall...I would walk when the sun 🌞 was just coming up and it was so beautiful to watch a new day begin. Believe me...these things are huge and really helped. I get up an hour earlier for this and it's well worth it. My attitude is so much better and I'm not stressed out easily when I do this.

I went to two meals a day (breakfast and lunch) and it has helped me lose weight. I have been way over weight (obese) and my goal is to eventually get to a normal weight and body fat level. I do not snack and if I get hungry between meals, I drink water. It's working well for me! 🙂

I know an intermittent fasting works for lot of people and I liked it too, bcs I don't like to waste my time by cooking all the time and eating. But I just want to remind everyone that people and their bodies are different and if you can, you should discuss with your doctor any radical changes to your diet. I didn't do that and I found out later, that (especially in women) it can be very bad for your hormonal balance. I have PCOS and I was unknowingly hurting myself, my problems got worse. Also, I have to take my meds with food, otherwise I'm nauseous and dizzy (didn't know it was bcs of it). So I'm back to somewhat regular eating several times a day, it's annoying, but it's best for my health.

@Cr****92 I don't see where did you get in my comment that I can't understand that he's telling his personal experience. I do and I didn't say a single word against Gabe. I like his videos. And I believe I'm mature enough to take from them what I want. I also acknowledged that fasting works for many people. I just offered my own experience as an example that people are different and that it's good to consult with your doctor. Really, I don't see what's your problem with my comment.

OK Gabe… First I love your channel. I started being a radical D clutter and hopeful minimalist. The reason is I like things tidy but also I am legally blind. When there’s clutter I lose things as you can imagine. One of my favorite decluttering things is my mantra… Don’t go empty-handed. When you leave one room look around and see if you can take something with you and then put it away. Personally I attack one thing at a time. The other day I did dresser in my bedroom. Amazing how the drawers got bigger as the stuff went away! So much easier to deal with. Keep up the good work, you are inspiring me! Also I hate Siri and she spells things wrong so if something sounds funny it’s not my fault. I’m smiling now

I agree with all of this except breakfast. As a certified personal trainer and nutrition specialist... I have to recommend breakfast. Especially if you exercise in the morning. Intermittent fasting works for a lot of people, but most people need the blood sugar stability of more frequent meals. I would tell people to do what works for them. With exercise and nutrition, every body is different! I minimize the trouble of breakfast by meal prepping once a week. Breakfast is super fast and easy!

Honestly my day is bound to be worse than when I've had a good breakfast. I just feel bad all around. I used to not eat breakfast and the way I felt started to be differently when I did eat breakfast - and then worse when I went back to not eating breakfast. The only thing I did differently on those days, was not eating breakfast and so I noticed that was the problem. So I too am surprised by the advice to not eat breakfast and would say to have people do what works for them - because for some people that's a terrible idea.

Great video. I agree about not eating if you don't feel like it. Boggs me down. I've always worked. And thought retiring would be so freeing, but started to sleep later and later so now, I'm setting the alarm, and going to bed a little earlier. So many things I need to improve about mornings. It's a new way of thinking, but it helps me to make the bed, shower, and feel fresh and ready for the day. Hanging around in night clothes, drinking a cupa, just doesn't work for me.

As a person whose job relies upon a lot of physical effort, I find that eating before work (a/k/a breakfast) really helps provide the energy I need to get through my shift, whereas waiting until lunch break to eat will result in a lack of energy during the second half of my shift. Love bacon and eggs - we eat them for dinner. Boxed cereals is one of the worst things that ever happened to this country - cheap and quick "food" that keeps you hungry all day. I grew up on it, and was too hungry by 9am to focus on school. Just not eating is far better, and I feel fantastic waiting until much later in the day. SMH... almost EVERYTHING we've been taught is flat out wrong! Glad to see younger people figuring all this out much earlier in life than I did.

Coffee actually doesn't dehydrate you, that said it is important to drink more water, especially in the morning.

Salt..Yuck..my body hates salt. I have to turn off dinner recipe videos as soon as they start throwing teaspoons of salt into the pot. Makes me gag.. Very occasionally in mid summer if I've been physically working a lot outside, I will actually feel the need for a bit of salt on something... otherwise I can't eat it.

I don't eat breakfast most days. I have been for about a year. Too taxing on my system. Btw coffee is not dehydrating. That's an urban myth. It's actually hydrating.

Very interesting suggestions here. I'm getting into the practice of starting the day at a certain time. I live in a state that has daylight savings time which can take people a long time to adjust to. I don't like starting my day in the dark but it's just has to be done sometimes/part of the year.
I'm not sure why but I find that an especially productive time of day for me is after supper. I don't know why. Something within me calms down or relaxes and I get things done around my living space.
I recently had near-fatal septic poisoning from a Cortisone shot to my left knee because of minor arthritis. I now can barely walk and have pain in both knees and hips and I use a cane. I've gained some weight and am eating less sugar and carbs since I'm not as active as I used to be and may never be again. I'm also drinking more water instead of the chocolate milk I like so much and I'm finding the water satisfying. and my goal is to lose maybe ten pounds. Another goal is to meet with a certified trainer to learn about the best weight for me.

Try a glass of warm water with a teaspoon of cider vinegar and honey in it first thing in the morning. Sounds gross but it's actually very calming on the stomach. But it worked wonders for me after a car crash years ago taking it to avoid arthritis. If you google cider vinegar you will be amazed at it's other benefits, and it's very cheap and the organic one no dearer. It takes a while to help the joints but it does.

So it's been proven that if you eat breakfast like a kind, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a popper, it helps with healthy weight and weight loss. IF you eat healthy for breakfast of course.
