What I see in watching this vlog post is that you've allowed yourself the flexibility to invest in or treat yourself to items or experiences that will enrich your life. In short, minimalism doesn't mean living a monastic existence just a purposeful, curated, essentialist life.

I switched from pen and paper to digital way. I had an iPad and I bought an Apple pencil and it became a game-changer for me. Much easier to find my notes, I don’t need to buy any physical planners each year and store them. I switched to ebooks a couple of years ago and am very happy to have more free space instead of additional shelves with books. I can make notes in my ebooks, and all of them all the time with me :)

For me I decided to finally invest in my mental health. For years I was just an impulsive creature, and I wondered why I would always be changing the course of my life. Since a year ago I go to therapy and it helped me soooo much.
As for education, I always saw it like something super important. I admit I don't educate myself as much as I could on a daily basis, but once in a while I get a scholarship for another master haha it's perfect because I can keep learning and I get to live in another country. I don't get money from it (scholarships usually barely pay my existence) but the experience is all I need. I'm on my way to try for a scholarship in Romania for next year :)
Food is also something I started to spend more money on in the last 2 years. The change in my health, body composition and energy levels is amazing.

Same on all points! I noticed that a college degree in itself isn't that important in my country, but constantly educating one self constantly is highly valued and has gotten me several jobs and now have a steady job (that pays the bills) and freelance jobs on the side (which I love doing and pay for the extras)

With your quality foods segment I can segue my comment into my big purchase: a freezer. I am learning how to freeze certain fruits as I bought the plants and am investing in growing my own berries and a pear tree. With the freezer we can make meals -or take meals home from gran- and freeze them. Also to buy my breakfast (açai) in bulk when on sale. This one works because I eat only one a day. I just found your channel and as an impulsive ADHD'er, listening to your videos while working really helps me focus on what matters and keep the impulses somewhat under control. Thanks Gabe, for sharing your knowledge!

May I add that carefully curating pictures of our loved ones over the years brings great happiness too? One day you'll take the perfect picture of a dear friend or family member, keep it, frame it, and get rid of all the other ones.

Berkey filters are great! I used, for a couple of decades, a water cooler with 5 gal jugs of distilled water. Got a spinal infection, can't lift the bottles anymore. I bought the Berkey and haven't looked back. Compared to tap water--anyone's tap water--for coffee or tea, the change is enormous. I've been doing audiobooks since a boss I had in the 80's used to send cassettes out to we managers across the South. I've gone through a couple of hundred books at Audible. Still love being able to do other things while playing an audiobook.

I can get behind you and your style of minimalism and frugality. I cannot stand behind those saying to eat ramen noodles, beans and rice, oatmeal and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches all the time, it's so unhealthy and not enjoyable. Health is very important to me, and what I spend a lot of my monthly budget on. I have two water filters in my home as well, one like yours and an electric one I bought years ago. Best investment we can do is take care of ourselves, our mind, body and spirit. Too many financial gurus impart this bad eating as a positive thing all for saving money like it's the best thing to do. Bad eating will cost you more in the long run with poor health outcomes, it’s completely unwise and harmful to encourage these people to do this. Thank you for not doing these same. I value my health and think it should be listed as the most important thing to care for.

This is the thing I don’t like about minimalism channels… they start by focusing on extreme minimalism and being “frugal”, but as soon as they monetize their content and make more than they actually need to live go the opposite route and change their mind about being frugal. Now is not about him spending only $30 per week on food, is all about organic products, etc…
That’s why I much rather listen to people like Dave Ramsey. He might be a bit rough but He gives consistent and real advise to people on how to actually be financially responsible and get ahead on life.
Nothing against minimalism, I just can’t stand people praising on minimalism “teaching” people about it and then changing their mind.

@@GabeBult my thought process is how long does the task take me? What can I earn elsewhere with that time? Then whether I enjoy it. I outsource the cleaning but don't outsource the car maintenance

It’s really worth it when you find a good one or crew. What blew my mind was there are people out there who are pretty passionate about cleaning in a way that I am not lol

I would never want to hire cleaners. I'm so picky about my own home. I'd rather do it myself and hire someone to cook for me.

Note: I called my insurance agent who told me that our homeowners insurance covers identity theft. I’m not sure what else is covered with cybersecurity insurance but passing this info on - check it out.
