Surah Al-Baqarah meaning: "The Heifer" or "The Cow") is the second and longest chapter of the Holy Quran. Surah Baqarah contains about 8 percent of the text of the entire Quran. It spans 2 and a half juzz of the Quran (juz 01 para 1 الٓمّٓ, juz 02 para 2 سَیَقُوْلُ, juz 03 para 3 تِلْكَ الرُّسُلُ). It is a Medinan surah for the most except for the last verses (284-286) which wee revealed during the Farewell Pilgrimage in the 10th year of migration to Madinah. The name of Surah Al-Baqarah comes from the story of the cow mentioned in verses 67 to 73. The subject of this long chapter, however, is varied. This single chapter is an encyclopaedia about Islam and the history of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Surah Al Baqarah contains a substantial number of clear verdicts by Allah Almighty concerning Islamic law. It retells the stories of the Prophets Adam, Ibrahim and Moses. Several verses of Surah Al Baqarah urge pagans (al Mushrikeen) and Jews of Medina to enter the fold of Islam and warn them and the hypocrites (Munafiqun) of the evil fate that Allah Almighty had met upon earlier civilizations when the elected to ignore His clear warnings and signs.
About the Reciter: Just for comparison (my personal opinion), the reading in this video is better and certainly more clear than Surah Baqarah full Sheikh Shuraim (سورة البقرة كاملة سعود الشريم), Surah Baqarah full Mishary Alafasy (سورة البقرة كاملة للشيخ مشاري بن راشد العفاسي) , Surah Rahman Sheikh Sudais (سورة البقرة كاملة عبد الرحمن السديس). However, it cannot be better than Surah Al Baqarah Maher al Maaiqli (سورة البقرة كاملة ماهر المعيقلي), although the audio more clear at most points. The name of the speaker is written in the video for those interested. Recitation of shorter or medium Surahs like Surah Rahman is easier. Maintaining consistency with good tajwid in such a long Surah is challenging. The reciter is less known and obscure. He is not greedy for AD revenue like the vast majority of famous qaris. Any comparison with the likes of Sheikh Sudais, Sheikh Shuraim or Sheikh Mishary Alafasy is on merit.
