I was born in 1959 she's old like me nice Peace
Take it apart, try and date it and refin it more authentically! Then refret!
No brainer!
Sounds nice. I love that Bassman . There is nothing better than the bite of a vintage strat into a tweed amp. Great vid once again.....
Sounds glorious, the body has a nice grain, which is not so common on alder, so I wouldn't put a solid color.
Agree. Don’t cover the wood grain. Strip the refin if you want but keep a view of the wood.
Sent it to Chad and have him do an aged fiesta red 😍
That would be so dope
Such a unique color. I had a very rare reissue of one, practically a one-off that ended up in Michigan for some reason. I let it go a few years back, but it was awesome.
Yesss
Daniel Souza I agree. Almost fiesta red faded to almost pink like that landau signature guitar!
Aged Fiesta Red!!!!
I actually like the colour/finish. It does look a little weird in the side by side comparison but looks nice when you see it by itself.
Love the burst! 1959-64 had the best ones before looking like a bullseye.
It does look a little funky with that refinish
Great tone as always. The guitar sounds lovely. Crying out for a Dakota Red journeyman refin'.
Wow. You are swamped with projects! I was expecting to see an update on the natural '57 that you had recently posted. Great video and these little gems are great for someone that wants a good players grade guitar. Thank you, sir!
Hey Matt....you should consider doing some live streams....and teach us some of those SRV licks...👌🏻🙏🏻
I was also Born in 1959, Great looking Strats. Love your Channel and Content 👍👏✌
worth $8,500 according to that piece of paper. jeez. how do you afford all these beauties?
Nice guitar. It really deserves a refinish. How about Dakota Red? 👍🎸
Fiesta red instead
that grain is too beautiful for any solid color. Blonde or 3tone burst imo
The sunburst finish is AMAZING on this guitar
Great playing and presentation. Minor work and refin are in order. This guitar is worth it. I'm presently building a Strat myself. Looking forward to the end product. Strats are endless fascination.
Looks weird af, but sounds cool. I wouldn't feel too bad about selling it though, if i had that primary 59 of yours and that beautiful MK blond. I've been wathing your videos for a while now Matthew and i love it. It is so relaxing to watch them, I learnd a couple of new things too, and I keep coming back to some of your videos just to hear that beautiful strat sound. I think that this format in which you talk a bit about guitars and then u play is great. Keep up the good work man!
Beautiful playin Matt! Thankx 4 sharing. Xheers! Likd 358
Looks like a 2 peace body solid black would look nice a re fret with stainless steel frets, can’t wait for the video of the tear down to see what is inside.. thanks for sharing mate
Bridge pickup is knarly that’s the sound I hear in my head when I think “vintage strat”
Great stuff...Ya really make those guitars ring...Awesome playing.
Sounds awesome great picking
Sounds great!
Awesome playing mate
You could play a shoebox with 3 stings and still get that beauty tone!! It's in your hands brother!!
Nice vid Matt!!!!! I always love hearin ya play!!!! The # 2 1959 sounds good man nice neck maybe just do a little work to it!!!!!
We need more videos like this one Matt, super cool Strat btw!! If it were mine I'd get it refined by a pro to match the original style burst, refret it putting it back to original as much as I could..replace the decal and the backplate as well. Peace!!
Hi Matt, nice video again. About the decal..I think it still there, but it's over polished so the color is gone? ✌🏼
Beautiful guitar I would like to know what the deal is with the middle pickup thank you for sharing
Yea make it a #2
It's got a real bright chimey tone to it. Really like that neck pickup, its kind of warm sounding. Keep the color the way it is. I would only give it what it needs (frets / mid pickup) Jumbos for sure.
#1 is still my fave 🤘
Either the middle pup's been turned around or the magnets have been fooled with IMHO...
Always luv yer playin' Matthew
9:03-9:45 makes me want to cry lmao This guitar sounds amazing and I honestly think it deserves some tlc that only you can give man.
Secret horde?! Lol i love it
Hey man. She's pretty dope, for sure, and that board is amazing. Since it's been refinished, why not go for that black refin? Black strats are pretty dope... And get it refreted while your at it.
Also, I'd get rid of that weird backplate and sand the neck.
Didn't get what that second string tree hole is- did it have a second one at one point, is that it?
Thanks for sharing all this cool stuff, mate. Amazing.
Cheers
Edit: count me in for the "under the hood video"!
Hey Matt, who would you sugggest for fretwork, including rolling the edges of the frets and the board itself?
Even though it has issues as you say, visually it's stunning guitar, beautiful.
beautiful guitar man
that wied sunburst makes it unique and that cant be beaten
I personally really love that bright red burst colour, although i think it would look better if the transitions were more fluid. Great video man!
Definitely refinish it, worn black or red. Great tone and playing!
Hey Matthew, what did you do with the 57 that had that unusual wear on the pickguard? Do you still have it. Are you going keep or sell it. Thanks.
Refin in sonic blue!!! That aged guard, nice rosewood with clay dots... it would end up looking amazing IMO
Love sonic blue. I see some color choices people are saying that aren't era specific either..
Yesss
I like the sound of the neck pickup but not the bridge. I'd be curious to see if they're original or not.
super son , merci !!!
That's true about the plastic not matching. When they transitioned to the green guard, they had white vinyl pup covers left over. You know Leo. USE THEM!!!! So, they put green guards and white covers.
Sherwood green would be killer! Or maybe Fiesta red so long as whoever does the refin makes it look like a real vintage Fender color.
You may keep that it sounds pretty awesome.. great video 2thumbs up
Carefully look for a broke wire on that mid pickup. Try to peal a wind or 2 outta there, cross the wires or tie them, and hold a match. They might fuse together. I put some finger nail polish on there to stabilize and protect. I had luck like that and saved a PUP before replacing it. I'd try that Fender PUP into the neck position. That amp always sounds great.
Do you ever play slide? I'd love to see a video with some slide playing!
Very nice...for a # 2...😀
Sounds great! The burst looks cool but it’s too pronounced when compared to your #1.
I love the uniqueness and character to it. I reckon its worth doing a bit of work and having it as your no.2! One question I have: I have a similar problem with my 60s strat, where I play with a thick string gauge and high action and my vintage frets struggle to cope and tend to fret out during vibrato bends. Is it worth me learning to refret the guitar with jumbos myself or having a guitar tech do it? I'm on a budget you see. Cheers :)
Certainly sounds good!
Project it. Sounds amazing
Hey man, so I own a signature Eric Johnson strat that essentially has a Texas style setup, (without the f hole) and I’m just wondering if you know somewhat affordable fender amps that I can use to kinda get that similar Stevie tone. Not really looking for an actual 59’ bassman or anything like that, but something that will do the job. I’m also hooking up two tube screamers in my rig. (One for turning up to max volume and the other for some gain) if you have any suggestions of some nice affordable amps, let me know 👍🏽
Very interesting guitar
Lot of potential here.. black refin would be cool, then some frets, and then it’d be another sweet guitar. Maybe a logo, but I kinda dig how it looks now
My first thought was “is the body original?” But I like the neck a lot.
Sounds pretty damn good man. You're right though the finish is too new. To vibrant lol
Sounds great, but I think that is because yo are playing it. Seems like it needs work but you are the best person to fix it if you decide to. Thank you for the video!
Cool, it looks like a 59 with a 70s paint job! I’m sure you’ll do it justice.
I agree, I love the player's grade instruments. I would definitely get that refinished in the right color burst and see about getting the logo reapplied. Do the frets if needed. It's got the potential to be a great guitar, I'd hang onto it. Although if you really are selling it, you can contact me!
the color of this reminds me of the sienna burst fender did for a while.
I think a black 59 strat would be great for a backup, I have mixed opinions on that sunburst it’s like a really really bright sienna burst
What did you do with this guitar in the end? Refret? Refin? New pickups? Is there a more up-to-date video please?
fantastic matt! I like to see you fixing stuff.. OK this strat needs to be in fiesta red, will compliment the dark fretboard, and since there are heavy wear on the fretboard, might as well do some heavy relic on the body. Com'on.. I know you like the idea already :) Okok.. just do what you like. (DO IT!) don't forget to show off your other amp. This is gona be interesting!
Great sounding Strat, middle pickup needs to be re-wound, I would send it in for a re-fin, Desert Sand or Fiesta red would be sweet
HEY MATTHEW! are you a fan of fiesta red and or surf/sea foam green?
Sounds great. Refin that thing and original Fender colour!
Hi Matt, HELP!!! I have a 1964 strat spaghetti logo that was refined in candy apple red in the 80's. original owner said there is sunburst underneath. I want to remove the candy apple red to get to that original sunburst. what's the best way to do this?
It was rode hard and hung out wet
But it still has that tone u only get in the old strats
With a bit of love that old girl would be rocking
Every guitar you pick up sounds FUCKING AMAZING. Have it re-fretted and enjoy!
Love fender strats it sounds great
Show us the amps. I would love a review on the Blue Jr.
Would look awesome blue just cos I love blue starts....
Candy apple red...By the way you played the snot out of that guitar.Nice.
Hey, I’m just getting into old guitars, I was wondering how much is a 63-65 Strat players grade worth? (price range wise), I’m asking because I see a lot of people asking for a really crazy prize for a guitar with quite some issues. thanks helps me a lot! Love your vids! Keep up the good work!
I noticed you have some of the older fender strats for sale .how can I get ahold of you .
Would you consider shielding it with shielding paint?
Just out of curiosity how much does a player grade vintage 59 strat go for ? Ball park?
It really deserves a refinish, I reckon black would look much cooler than this botched refin. And get rid of that weird back plate. Other than that, that is one fine guitar. Congrats and thanks for all the amazing content Matthew. cheers!
Maybe a transparent black would be cool i haven't seen a strat with transparent black finish yet
Jack koff - I agree, I really like the wood grain and a transparent black might still show that.
Apart from refreting it, please Matt, don´t change anything. Its mods and maybe history have turned it into a unique piece. BTW, it sounds heavenly.
Just got couple other projects,!
Oh Damn the Luck!
Lol
Oh shit sounds really really Good!
I ask myself when Fender started to put the truss rod adjustment on Strats with rosewood board at the headstock. Could you help Matthew or someone else?
Somewhere around '71 or 2
Sounds great, the more suga, the better
I had a '59 Duo-Sonic, was easily the best guitar I ever had
Are the 59s with a 5 way switch?? I thought it was a 3 way
Hell Yeah~!
I want an old strat so bad
I like that sound honestly a bit more imo
I think it sounds really nice (but what do i know).
If it was my Guitar, i would only be allowed to play it on the middle pickup, (and if you heard me play you would insist on me only using the middle pickup). I am looking forward to the next installment Matthew, keep them coming :-)
Great fixer-upper. I’d take it for a reasonable price. Nice playing by the way.
Awesome score! If Dick Gruhn has signed that thing off just simply proceed in your personalization ideas and make it your number two!
-->Anything beats deluxe tuners-lose hokey back plate-save switch if it's robust-make sure ohms are straight/simpatico with every component when addressing middle coil and delight us again when you recreate this gem of a find!
Color? bridge? decal? tree? Nahhh nobody cares as it's bordering as is into the modify realm and seems to rip just fine.
JUMBOS?????
LOL!!!!
Yeah the skinny little brass guys can drive a maniac player even more crazy and thus I'll personally back you on that one!!!
Can't wait to see your new '59 lil' brother!!!
Cheers!
JV
Liken' & 'scribin!
Did they refin the neck in poly??? Or is it an old nitro spray?
As always, very informative. Nice guitar, but yeah finish is kind of...off. Sounds tremendous though! Really enjoy your videos and hearing you play= Awesome!
Hey man! Interested in you 59 refin. Would you consider a direct deal?
Yes I would you can email me matthewscottlive@gmail
Really nice guitar, clearly refinished,,,, and I'd have it refinished again. It will never be stock, but by god it can made to look like it is. I think it sounds better than the other one. More clarity, less spank.
I would make it seafoam green for sure
Hey man this guitar sounds pure very beautiful tone, but really needs refinishing to the same awesome burst as you #1 guitar, then it would be real special indeed,
God bless you man,🙏👏👏👏✌
This is a prime candidate for a high end refinish. Light, light, light relic, closet classic type of feel.
That line under the bridge/over the jack looks like the seam of a 2 piece body. That would lend itself to a solid color. Dakota red/old Sherwood green/Shoreline gold/old candy apple red.
Sounds great.
Nothing wrong with Lake Placid Blue with a yellowed clear coat and some gentle wear.
@@j_freed That's exactly what I'm talking about 🤙
