      The entire back 4-5 is out of form, especially mentally. And when that happens we're in trouble. I agree. Maguire played shockingly poorly against Leicester and Liverpool and Watford. I would be willing to the give the man the benefit of the doubt and say that he is a pretty slow CB who does not have what it takes to play at the PL level with an injury. Clearly, Bailly is quite good given the minutes to find his form.
      As Ole was circling the drain, he became less willing to experiment with his squad as much as he should.

    I have been saying it about Pogba for his entire time at United, he holds on to the ball for too long. He never does it playing for France cos the manager sees it and won't have it. How Solskjaer hasn't picked up on it for 3 years is beyond me. I remember joking about it a couple of years back that it was a competition between him and Matic to see who can hold on to the ball the longest. The other thing in his game he needs to cut out is inviting players onto him to proof he is stronger than them. He deliberately allows the opponent get close enough so he can roll them and that slows down the attack.

    I've been a Juventus fan since the early '90s, and my goodness when he came to Juventus he knew his place in the team and he also knew what he could and could not do. One of the major reasons is because of the older players and coaches. He respected Allegri and the rest of the older team players not only because he was family but because football and winning was the only thing that mattered. I think Pogba does not have that kind of influence in Man U. If he had stayed in Juventus till he was perhaps 27-28, i think he would have been mature enough to actually lead the team Man U team.

    Great analysis from Scholes. Pogba loses the ball pointlessly in hazardous positions frequently.... he can learn much from Scholes. I think Pogba thinks its acceptable to try unreliable things on the ball in dangerous areas and lose possession rather than keeping it simple, more effective and more consistent via one two touch pass and move to create space and retain the ball. Somebody should be telling him that it isn't acceptable to consistently lose the ball as a midfielder. It would be good if Scholes and/or Keane was on the coaching staff to coach Pogba. I'm surprised Carrick hasn't had a word with him how his level hasn't been acceptable (losing the ball and also not demanding it to pass forward and influence games)

    • @ave789
      @ave789 Před 2 lety +5

      Fred is a good player in that role - it's like having AWB in the midfield. Fact is though that he's one person, and the way that United operate in the midfield leaves him covering tons of space by himself. The fact we don't concede more genuinely surprises me at times. Anyway, Fred is solid albeit with a few misplaced passes, but he needs more defensive cover, and a partner that doesn't only pass backwards (so not McT). Fred, Donny and Bruno would be my perfect midfield, but a Matic-like CDM and having Fred take Donny's role on the bench as an impact sub would be best case scenario.

      But what he got on his first day at united was score 30goals and 30assists from the CDM or he is a virus and till today that is what he is being criticised for. United has an inherent midfield crisis developed since Fergie left. We are toooooo backwards and always absorbing pressure in the defence then the ball gets to the midfielders late and then we expect them to superman their way through the already concentrated wall. Too sluggish on the ball and this affected not just Pogba but also Shniderlin, Blind in the midfield, Herrera, old Carrick and even Rooney in the midfield those days. Fellaini was also obliterated by this style of football, McFred are currently being crushed under the same style and Van de Beek is not a guaranty but fans and pundits are all making it look like Pogba is the only one to be called out for inconsistencies in performance when there is obviously no system in that same midfield, all we have there is a wide rift. We've had an ocean of inconsistent midfielders since Fergie and have yet to find one consistent midfielder(CM/CDM) till today and that cleary shows a systemic issue.
