    Excellent video!. This guy knows his stuff, a true professional. More importantly, he also knows how to present the steps involved in jump starting in a way that the average person can understand. I was able to do something, I didn't thing I could do.

    Woooow! I've never knew to do it that way for the dead one. I've always did the hook up the same way for both. Thank you! After all these years I've learned something new about jumping the battery.

      I understand the hesitation and nervousness of trying this out. Just take it slow, maybe even write it down on paper or print off the directions that I have in the description. Follow the steps and you will be fine - you got this! And don’t forget to wear safety glasses and some gloves.

    This was a very informative video. For the few times that I have ever jumped started a vehicle, I have always connected the negative cable to the negative post on the disabled vehicle first followed by the positive cable on the disabled vehicle. Thank God nothing horrible ever happened. I will be doing it this way in the future. What potential issue is there if the other car owner with the good battery decides to disconnect his cables before the disabled battery owner removes the negative cable?

    • @YourHomeGarage
      @YourHomeGarage  Před rokem +3

      If I understand the question correctly in this scenario. A person is basically holding both the positive and negative cable on one end while the other end is still connected to a battery. So, once cables (positive and negative on one end) are connected to a battery, they are live; therefore the risk is high that someone on the other end could accidentally touch them together which would cause a dangerous amount sparks on multiple levels. Basically never have one end connected to a battery while the other end is being held by someone, distractions could easily lead to an accident if they are holding live wires. Always disconnect them one at a time starting with the negative from your car (to break the circuit) and then the negative from the booster car, followed by the booster car positive and finally the positive on your car.
      Hopefully I understood your question based on my response.

      i think it's just a holdover from old cars, all modern cars have the negative grounded to the chassis so there really shouldn't be a problem, though if you read any instruction manual for jumpstarting they will all tell you to ground the negative cable to the chassis of the car. to make sure you can even check, the black cable should have 2 wires attached to it, on going into the engine and the other going to the chassis

    nice informative video overall.just a suggestion to your video for new drivers, you should elaborate more on the mistake made by many ppl by connecting the negative connector on the negative terminal as for new drivers connecting negative connector to negative terminal is easy process without thinking about the risk.

    I have a question, in my disabled car if i use a metal part, nut or from the motor, the battery doesnt charge i am pratically forced to put the negative cable of my disabled car in the negative post and not using another place, this happened a lot of times when my battery was dying and i didnt know so i just used to ask for help or use another car in the house, but this is strange, why was i forced to always use the post because if i do the entire circuit like in your video, the disabled car never turned on and i dont have any kind of electric problems in the car, once i changed the battery its been fine starting always at first time for 4 years now, but i always was curious why if i do the circuit like you did in this video my disabled car looked like it was not receiving energy from the car to the battery

      These instructions on hooking up jumper cables are designed to outline the very safest jump starting procedures under all possible circumstances. Since a lead-acid battery emits hydrogen gas while charging, there is a chance when hooking a hot battery to a dead one that a large spark will be generated, possibly causing an explosion. While this is exceedingly rare, it doesn’t hurt to be proceed in the safest possible manner.
      If your battery is always dying, then you may have a electrical drain. In some cases, batteries can drain in a very short period of time due to the high electrical usage in a vehicle. If I don’t start mine in within two weeks, it will die. The other item to take note of, is a poor connection on a bolt, motor or piece of metal. So, just wiggle it around to make sure the connection is firm.

    hydrogen is lighter than air ,will that not be gone soon ,and why not attach the negative cable first to the bad battery negative pole first to avoid sparks and them Hooke it up to the good battery

    you are foolesh, you hardly ever get a really good connection unless you connect battery to battery, this is how tow truck owners try to scam people telling them there is something else wrong when the car wont jump
