Destiny has seen some of the best and worst times, but one thing is always consistent & that is the excellent raid designs and encounters! This all started with one raid in particular, the Vault of Glass! This raid which featured encounters such as the Raising the Spire, The Confluxes, The Templar, The Oracles, The Gorgons, The Gatekeeper, Finally Atheon was a rollercoaster of emotions! Nothing quite was the same after this raid with team Prime Guard grabbing worlds first! The loot was great too with the Fatebringer , Found Verdict , Praedyths Revenge , Hezens Vengeance , Praedyths Timepiece , Praetorian Foil , Corrective Measure , vision of confluence , Atheons Epilogue , and of course the Vex Mythoclast which was completely broken! Hard mode raid was not to be messed with either and so was the lore and cheese of the vault including the No Time to Explain Secret Mission, this raid had it all! This is a full deep dive for the hardcore and the uninitiated, enjoy!

Hey everyone! Hope you enjoyed this really long deep dive into the raid that in my opinion saved Destiny, the one that started it all, the Vault of Glass! I want to just say this one took me a very long time, but hopefully it was well worth it, thanks đ
evanf1997 oh god I remember when I first got the glass minuet and chatterwhite it was so just ah so so amazing and I remember screwing around with that stupid sparrow for more time then oh god the taken king oh god dint even get me started on that d1 I miss you and I love you.
Man I miss this raid. I actually wrote a guide for the hard mode way back in the day and, while it is pretty cringe to read now, it was still a lot of fun and made me a bit popular back in the day. www.bungie.net/sr/Forums/Post/70961979
Cant wait for the no time to explain video to explain how to start the quest somewhat early. that was such a fun reset day!!
My story with Vog? I never had one I never did any raids
Well done Evan, this was fantastic đ€
Maybe the loot was the friends we made along the way
Gabe The dog That my friend, is the truest statement I have heard up to this day. Some of my closest friends to this day I have met at some point during a raid. Little did I know then that those were the people that I would have by my side for years to come. Sometimes you didnât get what you wanted from a raid, but the raid gave you something you needed.
Hah gaaaaaaayyyy
Or the great raid team that two years later turned against you because of an alcoholic jerk leader đąđ
Thatâs back when raids were fun and didnât end in shouting matches.

I remember joining a clan mate randomly and joined the raid right when they killed Aetheon. Turns out the member that I replaced had just been booted by an error. I got Mythoclast from it without lifting a finger and boy were they salty.
Well I mean, free mythoclast?
In Crota I was like at the final boss and my brother joined at the end and got the light blue shader I was going for. I was salty
I got anarchy first time
I'm fairly sure Glowhoo is a guarantee d shader if you don't already have it in your inventory.
I got my first Vex Myth this same eaxct way! I joined and my orb was there and few seconds later they beat Atheon. I got vex and was excited. Some of them just left the chat without even saying bye lmao

I reckon it'll be when Venus is back on D2, but the enemies we face will be those new enemies seen in Vault of Glass of D1.
-KingOfNinjas_1- I highly doubt Venus will return. Luke Smith stated that the âcontextâ of the raid would be updated. Knowing the Vex, they may have recreated the Vault or tethered it to a different area in space and time.
@@pristinewarrior imagine if it looked like it had aged drastically due to us killing Atheon. Like I'm talking all the time shit went on crack and now every area looks way older or newer then it had previously.

@@larss374 what do you play on
Vault of Glass was the first raid experience I ever did. I never played MMOs before D1, so it was pretty special to me.
I just loved the whole "unknown" factor of the OG Vault of Glass
The mystery of the vault door, VOG being the first raid in the series, the area inside being huge, the mystery of the Vex and their unusual powers, the haunting ambiance, the theme of being trapped somewhere outside of normal time, locked in either the future or the past. Just completely not knowing what to expect.
I remember going in with my friends completely blind. We thought the debuff from the fanatics and the thing you did to cleanse it were needed to damage Templar for a split second. It was wild.
I have 3 memories that are chiseled in deep.
Prior to running it, (and being Able to run it) I was a 10 or 12 level female Hunter patrolling near the Gate. A team showed up and started to open the door. It being brand new I had no idea what they were doing other than they were going into the Raid. So I tried to help. No mic. I have a memory that I could hear them. Could people outside of your party hear you? I sorta remember that they were saying keep the Hunter alive, this is great, Hunter going down get over there! Great stuff. Being so low on light I got wrecked. But I drew fire and helped out. Kept dieing and they kept reviving me. I became the 7th man. When the Gate opened I ran up to it and danced them in. They each stopped: saluted, pointed at me or took a knee before plunging into the Abyss...
On my first raid me and a Buddy assembled a random team. Being a complete cornball I had them muster up on the grass with their toes on the sidewalk line. Good straight formation. I'm ex military. They did!! And because of that the rest of the Tower came over to watch this ridiculous spectacle. I paced in front of them like a general. Pretty much channeled Aliens. "All rt people we're gonna do this by the book. I want us to be prepped and drop ship ready in 5. Get any gear, ammo, soda and chips your gonna need for this mission. Don't forget to tinkle. Now, we're going in peacefully, but peacefully or not, we're going in" Which leads to the 3rd memory...
This was the first game where characters could emote. So when I asked if anyone had run the raid yet and one of the characters, still in formation, RAISED HIS HAND.....the hilarity, excitement and fun of that busted us all up.
IT WAS EPIC.
Messages poured in from those watching wanting to join us or friending us. That 1st team became friends for years. A band of brothers and sisters indeed....
Sounds awesome!

Sad to think some of you don't still play with your first Vault of Glass Raid team to this day
Wasnât it like every Tuesday it reset??
I've been lucky. Most of us still continue to play D2 to this day. We're a very tight knit clan of maybe 10-12 people.
I remember the first time I beat the Vault. My friend group had finally gotten high enough in levels to actually push for a run, but we had no idea what to do. In comes an old friend of mine who I hadn't played with since the days of Reach. He acts as a guide, teaching us the encounters, but only enough for us to get the gist of it. It was up to us to figure out the rest. We ended up bonding over the experience, creating a group we called Team Motley Crue. It took us 8 hours, but we finally got to Atheon, and it was 4 in the morning. Most of us had classes the next day, so we agreed to pick it back up the next evening.
The next day, 4 of us get back on. The other 2 had to work, but told us to push on since the next day was reset. We flew into the raid, not knowing whether or not we could do it without them because they were both of our titans. With a team of 3 golden gun hunters and a self-res warlock, we went in with one goal in mind: win.
It only took an hour or so for us to get the hang of the mechanics, but we realized our one significant issue: our warlock was too squishy to hold his own against the supplicants. Once we got the hang of the fight it came down to pure luck on whether or not we would beat Atheon. We needed a perfect run where our warlock got teleported every single time. Fast forward 2 hours later, we still hadn't had our perfect run. There were a few where he got enraged, but we couldn't pull through. It was our last run of the night, our last chance, and we knew that whether or not it was the run we needed, it was the run we had and we would not let Atheon win again.
The first teleport, the teacher, warlock, and myself. I grab the relic and melt the hobgoblins as they take care of the oracles. All goes well for the 2nd teleport, same team comp. On the third, it happens: all 3 hunters get sent over. It was up to the warlock to survive long enough for us to get back over. We went as fast as we possibly could, destroying the oracles as they appeared, the warlock barely clinging on to life. As the third hunter crosses back into the arena, the warlock dies. Atheon's health was a sliver as he entered his enraged state. We had no heavy ammo, none of us could use a synth, and we were all low on special ammo. With just 3 of us, counting the shield bearer, we had to push hard. We all pulled out our fusion rifles and blasted away, desperately hoping it would work, with me picking the shield back up after each shot or two. We ran out of special ammo and all swapped to our primaries, hoping there was enough time to save the day, when a miracle happened. My golden gun was ready for use.
Swapping with one of the other hunters for shield duty, I popped my super and fired all 3 of my shots. With the shield about to disappear for the final time, my third golden gun shot finished him off. Atheon was dead. As we cheered in celebration, all of us in the game, as well as my college friends watching the action behind me, we knew we had just done something special. We beat our first raid in Destiny with a team of only 4 people. We told our other teammates that we did it, and they congratulated us. We all agreed to run it again after the weekly reset the next day, and this time it only took us 4 hours to beat instead of almost 10.
During this run, one of our friends told us about a rumor he had heard on Reddit. An exotic weapon called the Vex Mythoclast. He only had the chance to read that it came from this raid, but we all knew what our goal was. As Atheon fell to us, it only took 3 attempts this time, only one of us heard the heavy slam of an exotic appearing. I jumped out of my chair and cried out in joy as I received the Vex Mythoclast. This was before the nerf, so it was an absolute monster of a gun. We all piled into a crucible match, just to see it in action, not knowing what it did. Needless to say, we won the game by a mile, with me sitting at the top of the leaderboard for our match. We couldn't wait to raid again and try to get it for everybody else. Over the next few months, 4 of the other 5 members got it, with our squishy warlock being the only one to never get it.
This is why the Vault of Glass is not only one of my favorite Destiny raids, but one of my favorite things in all of gaming. We all had stories of overcoming bosses and beating games, but those were all single player games, or pvp matches. This was an experience that we all shared together, and one that I won't forget for a long time.
Mason Matzker jeez what a story. I loved D1 year one but I never raided till Y2 and I didnât to vog till year 3 but I still remember doing the challenge mods for the first time and getting the exotic fatebringer from Atheon. That was a good day
I got an invite to a group of my friends already at the end of the boss fight and I think I played for like 5 minutes and we finished. I got the mythocast and then everyone rage quits. Lmfao!!! I used to fucking love that gun in pvp, it was a beast!
âPraedyth's revengeâ had 6 rounds in the mag originally before it got nerfed. That shit was like a scout rifle in pvp đ
Got six again now.
I double tapped body so many people in year 1 with Praedyths and field scoutđ„Č

Listening to all of these D1 raid videos you've done is bringing up some powerful nostalgia and even more powerful emotions. Sadness being the biggest one, so many of my former raid teammates who I did all of the raids with either stopped playing or stopped speaking to anyone else. Some people say friends come and go but raid buddies are a special kind of bond and when everyone is gone, it leaves a hole that can't be replaced even if you go to new teams, then the cycle repeats itself. I've met so many cool people and made tons of friends in the D1 raids but now most of them are gone. There is something about spending multiple hours a day or week with these people conquering these challenges that is irreplaceable and incredibly special.

When I first completed the Vault Of Glass, I was 11-12 years old, and man I will never forget it. My team was forgiving and really pushed us to beat back the darkness. I remember looking for a group, saying hi for the first time in the Xbox party, and then just going to town. I never was able to get crazy loot, but the secret ship from the chest in the Templar's Well, the drop into the gorgon's maze, the time I used the shield to bash into the Templar and have it crumble before me - memories I still cherish. I remember jumping into the past and future in the Atheon fight, cleansing and massacring some of the most unique Vex that I still adore today. (descendant vibes?)I remember getting my second ever exotic from the Vault, receiving the sniper and using it for the first time. VOG was and will forever be my favorite raid, it was painfully simple but it introduced us into this grand scheme, and made me grind the game until the near end of time, stopping when Destiny 2 was about to come out. I downloaded Destiny 2 9 months ago, starting as a new-light in the season of the Undying, and yet I still remember the simple days, when leveling mattered and when the community was just dedicated, not angry. I love you, VOG.
Same for me but when I would say "hi" i would be kicked. But I found one team who were so nice and didnt care if I was a kid or I messed up .

We did the same thing for one of my friends and he got the Vex, I hadnât gotten it yet after like 5ish clears. He also got suros before it was nerfed. I didnât get suros until after the nerf. I didnât get gjallerhorn at all and at 20 hard mode clears I gave up trying to get vex đ
Lmao I will never forget my first VoG run being a hot mess and my 1st run on hard mode I got Fatebringer and Vex Mythoclast drop.
The same thing happened to me and I was like 9
Joe Peterson same i was like 9 and screaming at the top of my lungs
Same here
I remember the first time running through the beginning and every member of my random fireteam jumped right off the edge of the map and died. We all burst out laughing at how we didnt know shit.
Later we all started our own clan and have been playing together ever since. Just a group of randoms for the first time playing together became life long friends. It was a great time to look back on.
What made VoG special to me was I lived in a house of gamer friends, we all lined up for midnight release of the game, we all geared up for the raid, and we all had a blast, making this rid still my favorite raid, and I can't wait to play it with some new destiny friends from work!
I was like 12 on my first clear, this raid still makes pictures appear in my mind of the encounters. I remember them so fondly
I was like 8 and still do, this shit was just so good
Rise and grind fellas itâs Thursday
gonzo Ball another week bois another twab
correction on Mythoclast: It had enhanced battery which gave it **51 IN THE MAG**

âI think 100 thousand subs is possible by the end of this yearâ
Now at nearly 200 thousand
Well done, brought back many high school memories and much nostalgia
I still remember my first raid, I hadn't had a game raise my blood pressure so hard. I also had Gjallarhorn drop too!
That's so dope haha
@@CaptainBloodsail funny part was... I was so new to the game ( like 3 months after release i started). I didnt even know how good the weapon was. They were going crazy and I was confused lol .
Zack Kirby aw, thatâs cute. Little did you know that silly looking exotic rocket launcher was actually one of the greatest weapons in the game if not the greatest at that time. I assume soon after you got Gjallarhorn you understood why your fireteam freaked out?
@@XxHUNT3RN4T0RxX oh I quickly realized the potential... murdered everything !!!!
I miss the simpler times...
I would go back to Y1 so fast.
Itâs funny to watch this video today and think back of my first time playing Destiny with my friends (who ironically got me into the game)
He showed me all this cool mechanics of the raid and the weapons as well.
So I got the game and played it. The thing is That The Vault of Glass would be the first Raid I have ever done in my entire life. I have never played another game before that had a raid mechanic.
So when I went in there I was overwhelmed. So many people screaming and doing 100s of callouts per second lol. However when we reached the finally⊠and I got my first exotic the âMida Multi Toolâ I was shocked that I got my first ever Exotic weapon and it made my time in the crucible SO MUCH BETTER at the time.
I wanted more. And thatâs how I would end up getting hooked into Destiny 1 for the longest time possible
First, great video with the nostalgia feels. When Destiny came out I didnât have many friends playing it and I didnât try the normal VOG initially. It wasnât until the 2nd day of the hard mode that I was invited to fill in at the Atheon checkpoint, clueless about all of it, I remember shooting harpies and trying to stay alive. Then about 15 minutes later the group beat atheon and I was awarded the Vex Mythoclast. I had no idea what it was or why the dudes who invited me were upset I just got it. It didnât take me long to figure out the Vex was incredible. Iâm primarily a PVP player and obviously the vex tore people apart in crucible back then before the nerfs (and even after the nerfs it was a pretty beast gun). It wasnât long before the few friends I did have in game got incredibly jealous of how fast I could tear oppenents apart and wanted the vex as well. We decided to learn how to raid. With my Vex in hand (one of very few in those early weeks) I quickly became a crucial and critical member of the raid party. I learned how to use the relic, how to walk the maze, how to cheese the oracles by being the guy that went down, I became addicted to raiding the vault. All the while building bonds with my raid team that are continuing today. Then I discovered LFG and started helping walk randoms through the vault, often 10+ times a day. It wasnât long before I had a complete set of raid gear and every raid weapon to go with it. All because I got invited to fill in on a final checkpoint, it changed the way Iâve gamed ever since.
These retrospective videos are such a wonderful trip down memory lane. I love every single second of every single one. Keep em coming please! (but at at your own pace we don't even wanna think about burnout)
Although VoG is probably the best and most iconic D1 raid, I think Kings fall is just as good as a raid. Plus other raids have their iconic moments. For Crotas end its the lamp section with the thrall, for kings fall its the entrance of Golgoroth and the final fight with Oryx, for Wrath of the Machine its the Zamboni.
Zamboni?

Iâm loving your videos man. Thank you
What makes a raid great for me is the mystery and exploration, the collaboration between friends and teammates, and the loot and missions that required a return to a raid
My fireteam on templar: "Titans, put on Pulse Grenades. Warlocks, put on Solars."
"That one hunter, run relic"

I love how you narrate in your videos especially vog, brings back memories with my old fireteam! :)
I've said it in other videos but I'm so glad I found your channel flash backs galour I just finished yours and byfs video and you guys need to do that a lot more often and on a lot more topics keep up the great content bud
âThe Vault of Glass - Destiny 2â
Hmmmm. đ€
Edit: Nice title change.
Iâd pay that price to be the relic runner again. While I still prefer Wrath as a whole, I loved, over all singular raid roles, being the relic runner
Doom Paul no
@SeperiorGT no. No.
Vault of Glass was the first raid in destiny history
@@menacelikedennis126 as said in the video
I played every single raid in Destiny 1 tens of times, got every raid exotic, and hit max light every expansion in D1. D2 just doesnât hit the same, I donât play it anymore.
David Nailgun
After the D2 demo my worry was that we would have to re-earn and we-level what we already had.
Did I ever underestimate that!
My take on D2 was âPay again for what you already own, but slightly worse and a lot less funâ.
Same here
same. d1 raids were waaaayyy better.
it was more about shooting and a little bit of mechanics during the shooting.
d2 is ALL about mechanics still need to shoot, but even the shooting has mechanics
in d1 you could bring 2 noobs with you and carry / learn them the raid and still beat it.
in d2. you can't, you simply can't.
d1 raids, if somebody messed up. and you had somebody with you that knew the raid he could actually save the run by taking over that persons role.
d2. there are 6 roles. there's no taking over and saving the run.
i did the same on d1.. did all the raids. got all the gear. and played the raids for fun.
d2. did the first raid, got the armor. didn't even bother to get all the guns or whatever. didn't play it for fun. cause d2 raids are no fun. it's a goddamn obstacle course with no room for errors not even small errors. it takes away ALL THE FUN..
not to mention d1 still had good guns, good subclasses and awesome perks.
but little did we know, that the hunters were going to kill this entire franchise by crying for nerfs on everything that isn't hunter.... it might surprise you, but they still do till this day cry for nerfs on anything that isn't hunter.
Tbh, i played d1 but I still love d2 so much. Both games have had their problems and standout moments and they've both given me some of the coolest gaming experiences ever
@@silvereagle404 So hunters are the reason guns get nerfed? Yeah, that makes sense!
Thanks for the memories. I remember getting the g-horn as my first exotic drop in that raid first day.
I literally got chills when you said Fatebringer. I miss those days... I haven't played Destiny in a very long time but back in the hayday of Destiny 1, I was all in. I remember my Fatebringer drop, Ghorn drop, and all the Vault raid gear drops. So much excitement and joy. I would hurry home from work on Tuesdays and pray I joined the parties in time. I wish I go that excited about anything these days. Good video!
Yes we cheesed VOG. lol
"What makes a raid great to you?"
The experience of it. The thrill of finding out how to solve it, while being with a group of more than 4 people where everyone must do their part, else everyone dies.
I love to give all I have for a longer period of time (6 hours or more) to be able to feel the accomplishment and joy that a raid gives. I can't explain it correctly I'm afraid, but it's just so many positive things.
The only downside is when your teammates don't feel the same as you and leave you mid-raid. Kind of kills the mood.
And no, I don't really care about the loot. Sure, loot is pretty cool and expected to be high for such a difficult task (solving the raid and killing the boss), but I personally will always enjoy the whole experience of the raid more, than being able to use a weapon for the rest of the game without any effect.
Thank you bungie, for creating something so freaking amazing.
The Gorgons honestly
This was the coolest encounter that me and my friends nearly beat first try
As someone that has done around 1000 hours into the two games and not done trials or raids. It's amazing to see how much more there is still left to do in the games and I enjoy your telling of the stories of worlds first and their experiences
Over 700 hours into the two games but had no chance/team to do a raid. This is an awesome series, thankyou for taking us back to the past
I actually get hyped for these retrospectives. Pace yourself though. The amount of this content is limited.
Ever since I played that raid, I've wanted one of the Oracles as a lamp.
Me too
That's a great idea
Great video. So many great memories playing this raid. This was back when I always had 6-8 players ready to raid at any given moment. VoG and Crotas Ends were my favorites. I had every piece of armor and weapon from both. Im looking forward to the reboot in the Season of the Chosen personally. Im interested to see some of these fights with Champions. ggs
Thank you for the amazing content!
Woah, I''ve never been this invested in a Destiny video before! Despite the length of the video, not once did I feel bored. Keep up the great content man, cheers!
âThe coolest door in Destinyâ
Excuse me, but Oryx having Alexa play Regicide as you enter cannot be beaten
What made this and all of the raids great to me is the friendships I had so long ago. It is sad that the team I had back then no longer talks to one another. We all went our own ways, but i will always cherish the memories of grinding and just plain out having fun every week with my friends. I haven't even went thru a D2 raid because without my old fireteam it just doesn't feel the same.
Brings back memories!âŠI had the foil in my vault I didnât even know I had it until months later when I found a player in the tower talking about since CZcams and guides werenât thing
D1 Raids will always hold a special memory for me, those were some of the greatest times I had playing this game, every fight felt so fun, challenging, and unique to that raid, Raids were the best. While I liked the D2 raids a bit, I just feel the level of hype just wasn't there for me. D1 Raids will always be the best experience for me, and probably a ton of others
me and my team the clappers were the 7th ever team to complete this raid racing on release it was seriously difficult and some great memories i remember deleting my 3rd warlock and doing this raid again after leveling up a new warlock i received every single drop in this raid except the boots forver locking me from my level 30 or at least until crota came out great video
8:57 3y later and this is still the best drawing Iâve ever seen. Your so talented
Personally my favorite part of any raid is when your with a group of randoms and a person dies mid encounter. The panick was intoxicating but the best part was mid fire fight organizating the scrambling teammates and just barely scratching by for the big boy W.
Always my fav moments was vannila hard mode confluxs and people are always doing well but then 1 person dies then another. Quickly assessing people's lvl and abilities to organise them of who should support the weak link while not copermizing the rest of the team was just so much fun on the fly as the team gets picked off 1 by 1 untill I am the last man standing making a final stand doing my best to defend 2 confluxs and at the last moment before we fail. Victory
Also enjoyed the sunsinger cheat with atheon as 3 people get teleported but as sunsinger you kys this only 2/6 are alive. Selfres and back too 3/6 but you can open the gate for the 2 and finish atheon off.
One of the things that I didn't see many player do in confluxs/oricals was as sunsinger you kill all the fenatics in your supper. So, those who don't know sunsinger was the only sub class that allows you to use a gun but more importantly at the time it had the longest duration and you create infinite orbs. So, as a sunsinger I could make gets say 20-30 orbs per player during the fenatics and you only needed 3-5 orbs for your entire supper. This your teammates were stacked and had almost infinite supers.
Ah I miss selfres, solor shield, per-nerf solor wind, and the juicey og Ghorn.
*looks at the Aegis' moveset*
Sentinal Titans: *heavy breathing*
I just now realized that the vault door made the Vex symbol topped off with the red eye. It's crazy how much detail was put into some of this.
I remember getting into the vault of glass for the first time, with all my friends already completed it and getting the vex mythoclast which was also my very first exotic in D1
I love these kinds of videos, maybe make one on the secret black spindle sniper in destiny 1? I Know it was in the whisper video (i think atleast) but one dedicated to it? If not, anything Else like these
he did one for whisper and Black Spindle: czcams.com/video/TUcYe2JqyBY/video.html
he already did
I Know, as it Said in my comment, but only for the discovery and mission itself of the black spindle.
First time I beat Atheon I was rewarded The Last Word, coolest moment ever!
I watched the whole entire video and enjoyed every minute of it đ.
The memories and funny moments.. also the thrill of the chase for fatebringer and vex mythoclast
First trip through vault of glass was fucking magical in a way no other raid will ever be
When they were opening it they said âpossible bossâ they had no clue what they were getting into
Some great memories of this raid. Failing Atheon for 3 hours straight on first time, trying to cheese him off the edge and having more trouble than doing it properly. A friend fell asleep mid fight and many more. Great times
This video is so good it hurts my heart from nostalgia
