Michael McDonald has one of those inimitable vocal tones that NOBODY can duplicate. It is identifiable the second he opens his mouth. Oh yeah, I LOVE HIM! Oh yeah, I love that he uses tried and true blue musicians. It shows you that seasoned musicians are worth their weight!
classic,I can't argue. But can I understand him? Not at all! I am over 70% deaf, but even in the days when I adhering, I had no idea what he was singing.
You aint never gonna find a tighter soulful band than these dudes, been playing guitar all my life, just turned and tuned into 70 years old. And this is the epitomy of one of the greatest rock bands ever!
@@danwiggins4662 ... hey .. not quite true or fair .. Michael McDonald stepped in when Tommy Johnson got sick from burnout and then stepped back again when Tommy had recovered .. The Doobie Brothers never needed to be “saved “ or “revived “ .. they ROCK with and without Michael McDonald .. their joy in playing together on stage is infectious even decades later unlike some other bands at the time who were wracked with personality clashes and ego/domineering issues .. the Doobies are real brothers in rock music
Few groups still have the magic after 20 years. This group always had it,it was always magic, when ever they hit the stage. This is epic! Even after all this time!
Michael seems like pure magic, he's beloved by everyone he's ever worked with and be fits himself into so many different bands and artist's sound it's glorious.
I remember hearing this at around age 5 and falling in love to Michaels voice and the smooth beat to this song and being 25 now and this song is still one of my all time favorite, helped me so much thru a bad break up... Forever love this track!
Yes. He is phenomenal also. They are all solid musicians from the 70's and 80's. My generation was spoiled with all of the quality groups at the time. I feel blessed to have lived through this era. 🎶🎼🎹🎸🎷🥁🎺
1979..Driving a tractor trailer down A-1-A in south Florida and this song came on..the drop in said "You're traveling south on A-1-A". I thought..this is the perfect trucking song! Those were the days.
Michael McDonald has this distinctive voice known all over the music industry let alone into our lives that stays with you..his music is timeless and he always gives his all....he is and always will be an elite artist for times to come...🎵👍♥️
I hope these guys know how much pleasure watching their CZcams videos brings to people who have loved them since back in the day. So lucky to have this technology to continue to enjoy these geniuses! There's nothing like them! Love you! Thank you!
the beginning of this playing, song "Build upon it" and this communication between musicians, talking and preparing to play "Minute by minute", thirled me too much, I am impressed....
I say MM at the Chicago Theatre about 7 years ago he did an acapella version of you keep me running that was worth the price of admission. I was sitting in the 4th row center and when he was done he said since the last time I was here my shirts a little tighter and my hairs a little grayer and I yelled out yea Mike but NOBODY can TOUCH those PIPES and he looked right at me and said thanks man thanks a lot. Amazing moment. Just love this guys voice one of a kind
So good. Going to see the Doobs & Michael on Oct 15, 2020, here in New Orleans, the home of that black water. It's gonna be so good. Looking forward to it. Richard
Michael McDonald And The Doobie Brothers Together Bringing That Song Out Together Was Just Past Memory's Of Greatest Time's, You Guy's Were Excellent Just Like The Past !!
So cool, it's just like Annette Zilinksas & The Bangles, to have Tom Johnston, founding member & Mike's predecessor playing on a track that he wasn't on, because he had previously left the group, is awesome, kind of a "what if" scenario. Every Doobie Brothers fan's dream, it shows there's no hard feelings about the past, & that Tom & Mike complimented each other musically.
Not just the Doobies here.....they had help from a lot of other smooth jazz and studio-session men....you need a score sheet to identify all the celebrity players involved with this video project....but most of the Doobie Bros. fans wouldn't even know them.
First caught this 3yrs ago and keep coming back, Just stunning, I genuinely believe The Doobie's finest moments were in the 70's when Michael was on board
Yeah maybe.. The live material of the late 70s/early 80s was certainly fine. There's a concert from 82 here on CZcams that's fabulous. Cornelius bumpus rocks! "I keep forgetting" hurts me every time .. Lol . But Michaels voice ain't what it was then..
I think both versions of the Doobie's were excellent. Nothing but admiration for Pat Simmons and Michael McDonald. This is my favorite Doobie Brothers song though.
@@mr.tapeguy3606 it's like Genesis with Peter Gabriel and Genesis with Phil Collins - they went in a completely different direction but were still good
I have to share that back in 1982. I worked in a health food store directly across the street from the Allentown, Pennsylvania Hilton, with the Doobie Brothers on their farewell tour, had rented the top two floors, the top one for themselves, and the second one down for the roadies. Well, who should come washing into the health food store but the entire band, including Michael McDonald, who is wearing a pink tux by the way looking for drinks and snacks to take with them on the road to their next gig in Washington DC. Well after I changed my underwear I got a chance to shake their hands, especially Michael’s, and I was overwhelmed and totally excited by the experience. The only other rock related experience I could share at another time was when I rode in the limo with Deep Purple, but what I’ve said, that is a time that will take place down the road in another comments section. Peace.
I'd be honored if some Michael McDonald & late 70s/early 80s fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of WHAT A FOOL BELIEVES by the Doobie Brothers, WE'RE ALL ALONE by Boz Scaggs, and JUST ONCE by Quincy Jones & James Ingram on my YT channel in tribute to the legends. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital editing. Thanks and peace.
The sneak line he says once "I'll be holding on to your memory" that's the connection to put it all I. David Pack from Ambrosia great musicians from an extremely underrated band not to mention David Koz and Kenny Loggins contributions. Kenny hadn’t aged a day lol
The epitome of " blue eyed Soul" from St Louis! Where did he go to HS? Class of .. 68-73? Anybody? Great influence on so many Musicians . Dont even start me on the Steely Dan groove! Thanks
Don't we all wish we had the : handsome face, perfect hair, blue eyes, spectacular voice and talent of Michael McDonald? That guy must have more women in love with him than ants on a sugar pile? He's a beautiful human being to boot. He is manhood. Most of the rest of us should just go live in a remote monastery, and give up. Why do we thrive on remembering the excruciating pain of human animal relationships and separation. We're no different than lions and wildebeest on the Serengeti. The imperfect, the inadequate on the edge of the herd get eaten. I can barely stand to listen to these wonderful songs sometimes. The memories, bitter pain is simply to much? Yet, it's so perfectly conceived and performed it's irresistible. I miss them all so much; all the people we once loved. If there is anything resembling sacred in this living hell, it's the shared pain of lost love we all experience. No mercy in this void. Thanks for sharing. I will now burn one in their honor.
I am 61 and still as well back when real music was made. I listen to all kinds of music but i like from Clapton to Neil Young to Ozzy I am not a huge fan of today's music. There may be a few songs here and there But damn right I got the blues from my head down to my shoes.
Love music keep it great they do love Mike it's wonderful how everyone can get along and make music it's important to us and to them I saw Jeff so many pull together and make music wonderful having a great time
