    This is what I am given in the ER for migraines because it is the only thing that works. I'm not prescribed any pain medication for my migraines or fibromyalgia so when I go to ER it's because i cannot take the pain anymore and nothing else works. I am on gabapentin and flexeril but those don't do anything for pain. Gabapentin only helps the burning sensation in my feet from my neuropathy. Doctors in the US are so afraid to prescribe opioids and it leaves patients like me with no choice but to go to the ER. And I've only ever gone 3 times in the last 12 years. I wish these doctors would take me seriously and actually help me 😢

    As someone who is sensitive to many meds and can't tolerate morphine ,Dilaudid is the only thing that gets rid of my pain without horrible side effects .. If I need any type of surgery or something I always ask for Dilaudid .

      Lucky you, my doctor didn't wanna go further then giving 2mg buprenorfin which was so littlei didn't even feel it.. So I stick to kratom, maybe the best natural alternative to any opioid rly. Dilaudid isn't good tho for daily use, short duration, rapid onset, tolerance building.. Dilaudid is more or less like heroin (diamorphine), even stronger.

    Great video Andrea, thank you. My elderly aunt (89) has osteoporosis and injured her back badly approx. 2 yrs ago and she is on hydromorphone for pain. Curious now that you say it can weaken bones? She has many bowel issues and stomach pain and may also be on Gabapentin. At the moment she is in hosp due to her blood pressure dropping and they cannot seem to get her balanced. It does seem like a very serious medication.

    I was prescribed Hydromorphone 1 mg for chronic pain. I really don’t find it very effective and the bigger problem is that I suffer with anxiety and panic attacks. I’ve become afraid to take the Hydromorphone as I know if taken with my anxiety meds it could be fatal.😖

      I am on both and pretty high doses you will be fine. Your doctor understands the contraindications and wouldn't give it to you if wasn't safe. Also 2 mg is NOT equivalent to 7 mg oxycodone. My doctor also has pain so he understands. Unfortunately I am losing my doctor because he has long covid he has been my doctor for years. God help me if I get stuck with another doctor that lacks compassion. The government has destroyed healthcare for people with chronic pain.

    I was given hydromorphone for a blood clot in my arm. It was effective at killing the horrible pain. But it made me very nauseated, I didn’t like it.

    I went to the hospital for severe back pain, waited so long that the xrays were closed, so the doctor thought it was a sprained back and prescribed Dilaudid, it had no effect on the pain whatsoever.
    So my family doctor changed it to codeine with Tylenol, no effect on the pain so then it was changed to Tramadol again no effect on the pain.
    I ended up calling an ambulance because my breathing was not good and I have copd and had recently had a pulmonary embolism. At the hospital they xrayed and I had 11 compression fractures in my back hence the agony and they said I had osteoporosis and gave me statex ( morphine sulfate) and Tylenol this finally worked for the pain.
    My question is why didn't the Dilaudid which is stronger codeine and tramadol not work????? It was like I took nothing except Dilaudid made me dizzy and tramadol had an effect on my breathing.

    Dr. Furlan-in the context of fibromyalgia, are opioids equally effective for psychogenic pain as they are for somatogenic pain? 🐫🌴🏺

    • @DrAndreaFurlan
      @DrAndreaFurlan  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Hi @DennisBolanos, thank you for the superthanks.
      We don't classify pain as psychogenic or somatogenic. We can't separate the body from the mind, so all pains have a biological, psychological and social component. We use a bio-psycho-social model for pain.
      The biological mechanisms for pain can come from different mechanisms, and I explain that in another video: the 3 types of pain: nociceptive, neuropathic and nociplastic.
      czcams.com/video/bNdxG5cYW0E/video.htmlsi=YVKJ6tdVY9yOT92d
      I think your question is this: for fibromyalgia (nociplastic mechanism), are opioids effective or not? And the answer is no. Opioids make nociplastic pain worse, which is called opioid induced hyperalgesia (OIH). I have a video that I explain OIH.
