Yeah, weird to watch her make that comment after what just happened. Not knowing anything about what's really going on you just try to be non-judgmental and assume the best about the athlete trying.

On any other gymnasts' best day, they cannot come close to the scores that Simone gets even on her worst day. That's what I meant. It was a compliment, calm down.

Dominique is such an ultimate pro that she was able to recognize that the gymnast/actress in the American Anthem movie was really doing her routine. That was Maria Anz, a collegiate athlete in that era who won the 1984 floor exercise individual Championship for the Florida Gators.

I would venture to guess it has something to do with strict diet and excersize routines and frequent health check ups, considering shes an olympian. But who knows, maybe its her skincare routine? maybe its maybelline?
She has held her beauty well. Gymnasts tend to hold their beauty if they keep doing it.

I was all of nine but I definitely remember the Olympics of ‘96. I remember seeing Dominique & the team and I remember Kerri performing thru her ankle injury. Tough team!

I was in love with DD when I was a kid. She was the reason I watched the olympics. She still looks amazing.

The Vaseline on the teeth trick, my cheer coach when I was little used to make us do that 🙄 The idea was it would make your teeth slippery so it would be easier to smile but all it actually did was make it feel like you had gunk all over your teeth. Ah, the ‘90s.
Probably doesn't taste very good. I can't imagine it being pleasant. It is weird I would've thought it would be to make your teeth shine more then to help you smile. I guess you really do learn something new everyday.

The context of that "Stick It" beam routine was important: The gymnasts had decided to flout the rules and traditions of the sport after one of their teammates had been penalized for a visible bra strap, which is why Weiwei was breakdancing instead of doing more typical movies.
True, but she's talking about what will happen in real life but the movie. She's providing context on actual things.
I do remember Kerri Strug. That was very emotional.
Phil, I wasn’t even born for the ‘96 Olympics but watching Kerri Strug go back out and finish her routine on a bad ankle is beyond amazing and inspiring even now. Simone Biles should’ve watched that before deciding to quit on her teammates. She won’t be able to live that decision down. If she needs her pills to compete, to focus, then she shouldn’t even have been going to the Olympics. What I think she should do is not retire, and what she should do instead is come back for 2024 Paris Olympics to erase what happened this time around.

I know something more then a Olympian. Never thought I would be able to say that….. There is men’s rythmic gymnastics. It is very popular in Europe, Russia and Asia just not America and is not internationally recognized yet by the IOC or has much appeal at all in the Americas.

I understand that gymnasts need to show excitement, smile and all that, but is that a requirement for male gymnasts too or is it only for female ones? 🤔
Male gymnasts need to show toughness, rough exterior, and immense strength. They both have their ups and downs, just like I know some guys who don't like to be macho.

Also, rhythmic gymnastics for men is a big thing in japan and it`s amazing. I once saw a group of them live but you can see a lot of different routines on youtube, too. However, they do normally not use ribbons etc. as far as I know.
