"My father's people say that at the birth of the sun and of his brother the moon, their mother died. So the sun gave to the earth her body, from which was to spring all life. And he drew forth from her breast the stars, and the stars he threw into the night sky to remind him of her soul."
"So there's the Camerons' monument. My folks too I guess" by itself is a good line. Add to it the melancholy wind and music, plus DDL's delivery and the darkness, and it borders on exceptional. Overall a gorgeous scene from a criminally underappreciated film.
Michael Mann - the director - talks about this scene and more on a podcast with Bill Simmons going over his movie - Heat…this movie is and has been one of my 10/15 favorites - even the story of Mugua and why he is doing what he’s doing - he isn’t just some cold blooded killer - he is seeking revenge for the death of his children and loss of his wife…so much nuance going on
@@MooseMeus it’s on the rewatchables podcast on the ringer podcast feed - it’s Heat with Bill Simmons Chris Ryan and Michael Mann…they are going over heat but they discuss This movie - also, you can find other spots where Michael Mann (badass name btw) discusses the making of this film 🫶❤️
Love the expression on his face at the end. Just like if he finaly discovers that's she's more that just a rich stranger girl in a land which she doesn't belong.
My all time favorite movie scene. Very emotional. The dialogue, the music... So much sincerity from both of them, also makes me proud to be on this continent as the descendant of "poor people"
Watched this movie as a kid and thought it was pretty cool. Just rewatched it a couple weeks ago and was floored by this scene. I had to rewind it and watch it a couple times.
That's like saying 'the fridge keeps milk cold even though we're out and even slugs can move'... Wtf?! 😂 'Water still runs downhill even when we're not looking and even hate can start' I could write anything, still wouldn't be as ridiculous as that ffs!
Michael Mann IS a máster of this kind of dialogues,, he resorts to this Many times at their films, as the lovescene of Neil and Eady in Heat, both sorrounded In a beauty lights atmosphere, or the love dialogues of Colin farrel at Miami Vice
ahh geez this is a quote that defines me. skinning, tabning hides, foraging, love for history, bow making, arrow making, yea being a part of this society is hard with these values.
She had ogled him ever since she had first seen him. After all, his figure was pleasant to the eye, even with - or perhaps intensified by - all the differences he had from her typical European high-society suitors. She had sensed that there could be something there, something very appealing, in that apparent mix of civil and savage, but she was always weary that maybe she could be wrong. But here, finally laying beside him and looking him in the eye, she could make sure. And it was here, while she listened to him speak like that, think like that, feel like that... that she was irredeemably and utterly swooned. She finally let go of her uncertainties and cut her feelings loose. She fell in love.
I remember hearing something along the same lines about Earth, sky, the sun and moon from a Chumash antap ( shaman) many years ago when I was in Scouts.
@00:48 love how the music score kicks in. A sad complicated but hopeful riff. Poor people wanting to be free despite the risks. End the covid restrictions and let us be liberated.

@@Carl-xr9xe oh yeah no offence taken I knew what you meant 😊 yeah it's a bad ADR job then unfortunately. A tiny blemish on an otherwise brilliant film.

What does Hawkeye mean when he says “my father warned me about people like you. Don’t try to understand them. They are a breed apart and make no sense” ? Who are the “people like you”? It certainly couldn’t be Europeans, as Hawkeyes family was friends with the Cameron’s, Jack Winthrop, Ian etc. did he mean, aristocrats? Women?

" they are beholden to none, not living by another's leave" fckng love that, giving me chills
Same today in the states. Poor people are forced to live in remote areas if they want freedom from crushing circumstances.
Cheap land is where no one else would want to live
One of the most beautiful scenes in the movie - where there are many.
Goosebumps. The best quote out of any movie I’ve ever watched.

I remember a discussion with my boss about this film. I tried to get him to watch it but he called it a chick flick. I disagree with that.
I only recently understood he wasn't talking about himself. Great line, went over my head for so long.

Cora's line is equally good. It is more deeply stirring to my blood than any imagining could be. Wonderful

One of the most beautiful cinema scene. The music, the conversation. Everything is perfect. You can feel the emotion.

Absolutely fantastic moment in a great movie.
In this scene, they pretty much fell for each other at the end of it.
one of the best film moments i ever saw

John and Alexandra Cameron, but same difference really.
Madeline Stowe's thought. "you sexy savage" lol 😆
You think Michael Mann's a genius and then you check his filmography, wth happened?
Same thing that happened to Ridley Scott - he lost his creative edge, and took easier options rather than challenge himself.
Heat was awesome
