- Young Helen Keller, blind, deaf, and mute since infancy, has become frustrated and violent to the point that she is now a danger to herself and others. Her parents are left with little alternative but to send away to live in an institution. In desperation, they seek help from the Perkins Institute, which sends them a "half-blind Yankee schoolgirl" named Annie Sullivan to serve as Helen's governess and tutor. Through determination, love and sheer stubbornness of will, Annie ultimately breaks through Helen's walls of silence and darkness and teaches her to communicate more effectively through sign language.
Produced by Fred Coe, directed by Paul Aaron, and starring Patty Duke, Diana Muldaur, Charles Siebert and Melissa Gilbert as Helen Keller.
With it's 16:9 aspect ratio, this version not only presents the film in a more up to date, widescreen format, but also has it's background audio filtered, boosted, and completely in sync with it's video.

What a beautiful life you had, someone who has been blind and mute but now knows sign language, God has been so good to her 🎉AMEN 🙏 🎉
Please don't say dumb. Dumb makes it sound like Helen was stupid, but she wasn't. She couldn't speak until almost at the end of the movie. She said " Wa wa, wa wa". But, later on in life she did learn to speak although not clearly
The life of Anne Sullivan is a wonderful example of a miracle. Hellen Keller is another. Thank you for bringing this to a wider audience.
I hate you so much dear
I feel like Anne Sullivan never gets enough credit.
I have seen this masterpiece of this true, beautiful and inspiring true story countless times. Today I cried like I never had before. I am a teacher. Teachers are in a league of their own; without them, you could not have read this message.❤
This was beautiful ….. Ann Bancroft and Pattie’s Duke still my fav ….the message is still a strong one ♥️♥️♥️
Melissa Gilbert acted blind just as good as Melissa Sue Anderson when her character went blind in "Little House on the Prairie"
Diana Muldaur was so great as mother. And the family lived in the School house from Little house on the prairie.
Which house? This one is huge.
That's right. It was first the house that Widow Thurman lived in on Little House on the Prairie season 2, then in season 5 it became the Harriet Oleson School for the Blind .
@@signnamesparkleYou're absolutely right!
Good catch!
This movie encouraged me to learning how to sign for the deaf, which I did for 7 years, for 6 great people! I signed for all our meetings and conventions of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
❤
If it’s a Patty Duke movie it’s good!!
“The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.” Helen Keller.
Why do I feel like Amanzo is going to come out anytime 🤣🤣
Kkkk
Because this was filmed where Little House on the Prairie was filmed. Recognize the house? I'm waiting for Mary and Adam to pop out behind the corner!😂
Oh Manly 😂😂😂

I was thinking the same. OMG.
Did you know that this movie educates the world about people with disabilities?
Yes and not treating children with challenges with pity and spoiling them.
@@juliefall2892 did you know people can develop disabilities at any age?
@@juliefall2892 my family does not pity or spoil me. Thank you very much.
@@marieazrak1951 Thats good , it can be tough as a parent to get this right. Because we want to rush in and help but we need to give our challenged loved ones the ability to help themselves 💖🕊️🍑🌹
@@juliefall2892 Yes, to treat them mature as though they are themselves capable. Children learn, teachers only guide them to success. I would treat anyone older with a disability the same as someone older who I respect.
Melissa Gilbert 👍❤
Thanks for sharing this drama The miracle worker.
15:41 Helen Keller herself said the day she first met Anne Sullivan, it was "my soul's birthday"
Great movie saw it along time ago with Patty Duke as Hellen Keller, the roll Patty played caused me to want to work with special needs children 😊which I have really enjoyed doing and I have also worked with special needs adults
Thank you for this touching movie with very great actors.❤
Patty Duke graduated from student (Helen Kller) to the teacher (Annie Sullivan)
Gotta give to Patty Duke she portrayed Keller and Sullivan! She also won a Oscar and Emmy for their performance!
Interesting that Patty Duke played as Helen in the 1960's version and here she's playing Annie Sullivan
The best helen Keller movie ive seen. Love Patti duke.Thank you
Was patti Duke the mother or the teacher in this movie?
@@juliefall2892 The teacher

I'd just watched another movie with Patti Duke and she was much older , I couldn't tell. Thank you 💖
SUPERB and most moving accomplishment by a born teacher's complete self-belief -- from her own experience! Great version, thanks.
It's so weird to see Laura act like this! She's an amazing actress!
How sad that the adults did not work w her as a young child.
I bet Melissa and Patty were both tired after the kitchen scene.
This is an excellent remake. I'd forgotten about Melissa Gilbert's outstanding performance as Helen. Thank you for sharing.
Such a beautiful film and amazing what was accomplished. So enjoyed watching it. 🇿🇦
No matter how many times ive seen this movie the scene at the well always gets to me.2 of the best actresses to ever grace the screen.
I agree. Life changing. It saddens me Helen never married.
Melissa is a grand actress
Thankyou x haven't seen this version xx
The original one was brilliant but this one was also brilliant and had some bits of humor like the father carrying Annie down the ladder it seems like Melissa's role was even more violent than Patty's
Patty Duke played Helen Keller before this movie!
Yeah there's actually another movie with the exact same except she plays the main character but this time it's Melissa Gilbert
Correct!
Patty Duke in the original played Helen the child. In this Patty Duke plays the teacher Anne. So she's now played the student and the teacher. Would loved to have known what it was like for her playing the two different characters in the same story.
Anne Bancroft played Miss Sullivan in the original
@@mickiepiscesYes, Arthur Penn was the director of the film : a master piece !
Melissa Gilbert did an amazing job😮
I v realize she may be too old for the part but I thought she was excellent too.
The Teacher was brillant she, help her with love and patience
Currently started crying at the train station “She no’s” 😢
Excellent movie! I also love the version where Patty Duke played Helen Keller.
This movie is very touching it brought me to tears
One of the best movies ever. I love it always have.
😭😭😭 aku baru tahu ttg cerita seorang Helen Keller.
Ibu guru yg sangat sabar ❤
Helen Keller❤ what a beautiful ended ,marvelous acting, beautiful movie. Thank you for presenting it. Most rewarding.🥰
Brilliant performances from Melisa and patty, love the storey.
Love the story.
Great movie! I watched the original one with Patty Duke she is an amazing actress 👏 😊❤
Melissa Gilbert did a good job playing Helen, the real Helen wasn't but 6-7 when Annie started teaching Helen. Melissa was a little bit older than Helen.
They waited so long to help her
Her brother even call her a monkey
Its only the Mother that had the Patience with her
🥺🥺🥺🥺 Amazing story
I don't know why they had to do a remake or sequel? Patty duke was the best !!! Anne Bancroft......Inga Swenson! Best performances ever!
They made this showing her older unfortunately there's another movie showing her as a grown up.
The 2000 one was really good
@@KRmedfndllcARCwof81213 Yes, the *1998* film *_Monday After the Miracle_* was a sequel to *_The Miracle Worker._* Same writer. It takes place after *Helen Keller* graduates from college and deals with *Anne Sullivan's* rocky marriage to *Harvard* professor *John Macy* and *Helen's* doomed romance with his young assistant *Peter Fagan,* as they all try to raise money and awareness for their cause.
🎉Wow! Heroic and saintly perseverance! Certainly, as the Holy Bible says, "they yield a bountiful harvest by their perseverance." Glory to God. ❤✝️🛐🙏👍😇
Great movie. Thank you. Shared.
the original movie version, with Patty Duke as Helen Keller, was much much better than this. it’s weird to see Melissa Gilbert play Helen when she’s always been Laura Ingalls on Little House 😁
Maybe this is really just a twisted version of Little House.
Hahaha, I like what paradox says. Patty's version of Helen was much wilder and believable for my taste than Melissa's, although the story is still wonderful. That dining room scene...😂 I love it!
As Ann, I like both Patty and Anne Bancroft for different reasons, they bring out different aspects of Miss Sullivan to the story
Me too! @@elenaumaran2108
I was thinking exact same thing.
This shows how versatile and how good and how versatile an actress Melissa Gilbert is I thought it just as good as the original as far as acting and story and Patty Duke Irish accent And All showed once again she was one of the best actresses ever in everything she' does Melissa is more than half pint
Thank you so much for uploading and editing, I've always wanted to see this movie with Melissa Gilbert!❤
You're welcome. So glad you enjoyed it.
Such a beautiful movie,yes love u ever &ever❤❤❤❤
This Film Location, was at Big Sky Ranch. The same location, as Little House on the Prairie. In fact, Nellie's Restaurant, Dining Room, was used for the scenes with Helen and Anne, as well as the exterior and interior of the Blind School. I bet, Melissa Gilbert, learned her techniques, from Melissa Sue Anderson (Mary), as a young blind Woman. She and Patty Duke are tremendous Actresses!
MUST HAVE BEEN GRUELLING FOR MELISSA GILBERT TO ACT THIS MOVIE...SUPERB❤❤❤
MG did an amazing job.
This version would be when shes way older than the books say ive read over four books on this movie including in college...
Can you please leave the names of the books so I can read them?
Oh! Absolutely touching😊😊😊
Really good movie.
Brilliant movie
The first 30 seconds is the same as the beginning credits of little house on the prairie.
Haha I thought I clicked on the wrong thing when it started
@@tanyacampbell3739 thank goodness someone else noticed. 😂
Thought the same
Thank you all! I thought it was just me. Little half pine.
That was a great movie
Ohhh this is the poet, Helen Keller❤❤❤❤
Thank you!
Lovely movie😊😊😊Miracle worker. Only few of them😊😊😊
Melissa Gilbert 💖💖💖💖💖💖
Ninguna como Patty Duke en el papel de Hellen,,,por algo ganó un Oscar
This is sad true story of Helen Keller who was deaf -blind since she was infant. Melissa Gilbert did a good job playing the role of Helen Keller. Anne Sullivan was a amazing teacher she taught Helen sign language. It was amazing Helen become successful and graduated from College. Helen need to be put in asylum she got bad temper.
Wat een heerlijke film❤
Wonderful remake.
Great historical film. Thankyou for modernization and bringing it to us. Fabulous.
I think Patty Duke played Helen the Best.❤
Me too

Aha. Dr. Katherine Pulaskii, Star Trek TNG. Powerful story. Sublime. Heartwarming.
She's also on the Pink Floyd album "The Wall" if you know where to listen.
the 1962 version where patty dude plays Helen Keller is the best / Ann Bancroft best ...
This is Patty Dude
God Bless Their Souls Helen you can see now ❤
I feeling my favor Helen Keller's life story true nicely..
Magnífica película. Ya había visto otra igual , pero era con una niña,, pienso que es la primer versión, está no la había visto conozco a la actriz es Melissa Gilbert pero la historia es hermosa me gustó mucho

What a heartwarming movie
I recommend this film. Is has gd story and they actor the actress acting is very good like Melissa Gilbert film her films are usually good
Always love patty Duke ❤
I am from India ❤
Patty Duke is the best at playing Helen Keller
I had to see who played annie but this was the movie we got played in school.
I think Patty Duke was a very attractive lady. RIP Patty. Your making movies in heaven with all the other amazing performers.
Good movie
مش فهمه حاجه من الاشارات
Peccato che non è in lingua italiana, altrimenti lo guardavo.... 😢
А, мне очень нравится фильм, где девочку играет Халли Кейт Айзенберг. Hallie Kate Eisenberg.
It will, take time for the Teacher to work with her because she is a
Already a teenager
Her parents should have, seek help for when she was a small child
they did- in real life Anne Sullivan came when Helen was 7 years old.
I read somewhere that in this film we can hear Jonathan Gilbert's voice as Jimmy Sullivan. At what moment is it, please ?
9:31 Anne has an audible hallucination of Jimmy. maybe others throughout the movie but i just started watching.
Dove trovo la versione in italiano?
This original miracle Worker movie and the one with David Strathaira is the best.
Legenda em Português por favor
GOSH THAT WAS GOOD❤
Moving good move
Бедный Ребенок!
Why the parents don't let her learn things
My opinion the parents didn’t know how to teach Helen and looks didn’t want to yet seems Helen was very spoiled.
This was excellent , it taught us to not cripple a person by pitying them. . By giving them the opportunity to be their best.
Is englise
Was this made on big sky ranch to . This looks like the blind school . Did she film this in between little house and this?
I think she did actually.
What I will never understand is a baby the very first second the child is born makes a ton of noise and he or she doesn't know a single word of language so why couldn't Helen just Mumble sounds at least?
She wasn't born like that, she became blind and deaf at about 18 months because of an illness, so she could already utter some simple words as "water"
She was also deaf. She was mute because her world was mute.
@@gloriabarberi1292she could pronounce words because she learned it from her teacher. By feeling the face of her teacher. The girl didn't hear or see, don't forget that ! Her world was dark and mute.
I believe Miss Sullivan taught Helen how to speak as well.
Helen was deaf thats the reason! Helen could speak as a toddler until her illness at 19 months. After this terrible illness she lost sight and hearing so she didnt hear anymore her parents .Thats why she stopped mumbling and talking.. Poor baby..😢
Lovely
Both Melissa Gilbert and Patti dike were 15 when playing the part of Helen but Melissa Gilbert was taller as Patti duke was always smaller into adult life but neither looked five years old as Helen was when she met Anne Sullivan but both do a good job portraying Helen although I do favour the original one
Little House on the Prairie... with Melissa running down the hill at the start... 🤔✌️🇬🇧
