Finally I’ve been waiting for someone to review this!
I absolutely love your intros. Theyre so soothing and relaxing.
I'm glad you enjoy...they are (mostly) fun to shoot as well
Dial is top notch... no date complication too ..Bracelet is way better...But the case is way too thick in my opinion...PDs casing is more true to the OG. Great review.
Love your reviews Steve! Always clear and detailed 👍
Steve is the winner of the Speedy Race to Review. 👏😂
With thanks? 🎉
Haha, the rest can win with the others, but I had to be first with this one...it's kind of my baby 😂
Especially since you're on or next to the Space Coast! ❤️
Congratulations Steve ! One small step for this channel, one giant leap for speedy homage review !
That stepped dial is the best
I've seen so far. It is the single biggest factor for me in creating much needed depth for the design. Eagerly awaiting my white dial which I'll be comparing to the gen on the Chinese Watches subreddit. Cheers
That is super cool of you to knock this out before going on vacation. Even though PD Quartz watches are smoking values, there are a few issues that prevented me from picking one up, but this one addresses those issues. And the introductory price for this watch is ridonculous. Thanks!
How did they not notice the case was that bad? I don't understand it lol. Really looking forward to the next version!
Same case shape as everyone else except Pagani, really. I give them some points for finishing it much nicer than the Pagani....but man, a new Midcase would really set them apart from the rest.
Glad you mentioned the torsion problem on the chrono hand. Even though you stated a workaround, something like that would keep me from buying this. A million thank you’s
Happy to help...should be noted not all suffer from this...another reviewer (posted yesterday) said he has no such issue with both of his 🤷
the "no date' nails the look. great review
Any plans on getting your hands on a IXDAO Pose Vader? Would love to see your high quality footage of it.
Great review! I like it but I have a few from pagani. They have too many things that need fixed so I hope they do a V2.
I have this watch and an Omega Speedmaster. Had the Pagani Design Speedmaster in the past (gave it to my brother).
Let me tell you the Watchdives Speedmaster blows the Pagani out of the water:
1. The bracelet feels 90% similar to a real Speedmaster bracelet. It is incredible how they could deliver that at this price point.
2. The dial more closely resembles the Speedmaster dial.
3. The lume is a HUGE improvement over the Pagani.
4. The domed crystal mimicks the Speedmaster crystal much more closely than the Pagani.
5. No date window (like the original) that RUINS the dial symmetry on the Pagani.
The only thing that Pagani has over Watchdives is the engraved case back.
Easily recommend the Watchdives Speedmaster over the Pagani Design Speedmaster. As an Omega Speedmaster owner I know what I am comparing the watches with. 😉
Thanks! What is your opinion about the case thickness compared to the gen?
@@marty298 hardly noticeable! You can see it if you hold them next to each other, you barely notice/see the difference when you wear the watch on your wrist.
For the point 5, I disagree with you. Dial symmetry is already ruined because you have a 12h/24h subdial... even when the chronograph function is not working. Date is very useful and it's not ugly if you have a color match date wheel. But all tastes are in nature...
The coin edge case back is a welcome addition. I just bought the tool for 12 bucks and it's so much easier to open the case back when batteries need to be replaced.
I really like the crystal of the Watchdives, good heighth, and fantastic distortions around the chapter ring. Other than that, I'll keep my V3 Pagani PD-1701. It looks great on my wrist and very comfortable, just love it. The big slab sides of the Watchdives is an instant turn off for me. I went deaf at that point. Nothing has been greatly improved to peak my interest. It was a great review though, thanks for sharing.
I agree with you completely. Staying pretty happy with my v3 Pagani. Oh, and I believe it's "pique"...
@@guyo68 someone should shame you for your pedantry in a fit of pique
@@brianmccord7387 well then, job done, I guess. Now who's gonna shame you for your pedantry in attempting to shame me...?
This review came in so fast! Do you ever sleep? 😂 That’s good because I couldn’t wait. The crystal, the matte aluminum bezel and the matte dial are the stars of the show. I mean, that crystal is amazing! I do like PD’s case better but that’s it. I’m looking forward to watching the review of the WatchDives you’re wearing on this video.
That caseback will be a PITA come battery change time. What were WD thinķing?
Looking forward to a potential version 2! Any idea of how fast they typically iterate on these designs?
i asked watchdives and they said about 1 year for version 2
@@florin1737good to know, thanks for checking! Gotta be patient in the meantime haha
this is a homage to the moonwatch right? looks nice
is it possible that this v1 case fits better on a smaller wrist than the coming v2?
I have an older V3 PD 1701, but I will be getting V2 of this too.
I actually like that thick case it has a big presence. I don't like homages that are a copy and paste.
A nice hommage and a solid price point. I saved up and waited for a few years because I wanted a vintage Speedy from the 1960s.
I have the all black, and grey with gold dial Pagani, and both look great.
The dial does it for me!
I don’t understand why Pagani always has a date window on the dials.
Great watch, however I'll hold for V2 and loving the white dial 🔥
Why the chunky case tho?
I wonder if I can use the bracelet/clasp on my Speedy Professional... 🤔
There's a good chance. Uncle Seiko speedy bracelets fit the Pagani, the WD bracelet fits the Pagani...so the chances are good that it'll fit the Omega
Almost... we almost there guys. Bezel a little thinner. Innercase thinner. And the subdials bigger and whe are there 🎉
I wish they would have made it thinner like pagani,
I wonder if the bracelet fits the pagani design, if it does and they sell it seperately i might buy it.
Confirmed, bracelet does fit the pagani
Combine the PD case and buttons with the WD dial, bezel, hands and bracelet and you'd have a winner. Version 2 perhaps.
Is there any ETA on the V2 of this? I was ready to pull the trigger until I saw that mid case. I'd rather just wait and see which changes they do on the second attempt
I heard 5-6 months away
Nice watch Steve . I have the PD mission to Uranus, having had the original Swatch one, it was an improvement. I've had it over a year and apart from the bad lume, which isn't an issue on a Chrono anyway. However!!....although the PD is slimmer I actually like the chunky look of the Watchdive, and I'll consider getting one. I happen to have the caseback tool to fit this too and prefer the plain caseback to the cartoonish one that was once on my PD. I admit I do also like the bigger, chunkier pushers too. I have an 8.1" and maybe this is better for me. And finally, yes , it's great lume for a Chronograph. I have a far more expensive Orient panda dial chronograph and the Watchdives looks like it beats it too. Only thing is, the price could be a little bit lower. I wouldn't expect a Pagani price given how better this is, but it's still a bit high. Finally, I took the bracelet off my PD I wasn't overly impressed, so replaced it with a good quality white hand made leather strap to give it a Moonswatch look AND, brushed the silly spaceship and moon off the caseback ! Thanks for the great review .
Can you replace the Watchdives wd1861 bracet on your Phylida speedmaster? help me please. thank you so much!
If the watchdives wd1861 bracelet fits with the Phylida speedmaster, I will buy another watchdives wd1861.
It would be extremely nice if the lugs fit the original speedy end links, the pd is not quite perfect...
well, the WD and the PD bracelets are interchangeable and fit each other quite well, so it'll probably be the same story for the watchdives.
its great!
Watchdives or Pagani? 🤔
Thanks for the comparative review, that's what we all wanted. Can you get them to slim the case sides down, it's just too much of a slab from the side, the Pagani wins that element.
I think they are already working on it 🤞
It looks soooo thick! Why Watchdives? why?
On a quartz movement as well lol
Thought the same watchdives said on reddit that's why it has the discount they're not satisfied with the case and are making a new version
Dang that v2 is going to be amazing. It takes a lot of self-restraint not to just go ahead and snag the v1.
Given the lower cost of the Pagani and its much nicer case who would ever buy the Watchdives?...
Grate 👍
Вы так подробно разобрали хомаж Sugess, а эти часы поверхностно. Не выдержат такого обзора? Или вы перестали делать подробные обзоры?
I don't understand? I follow the same review format every time. What have I missed here?
@@EscapeWheel
How are you supposed to remove the caseback?
Sticky ball, ball of duct tape, or a Rolex caseback toolset for like $10. It's not hard, but it's not as easy as the simple caseback notches.
Thanks, though the only time the non-Rolex methods worked for me was when the battery had been changed previously as the manufacturers overtighten the backs.
@@zosothezephead837 I've used the Duct tape method a few times now...it ain't easy but it's doable.
It's unnecessarily though isn't it. What were WD thinking. I have an Ali Ex BB58 which have a Rolex case back. Its time keeping is terrible and it wouldn't surprise me if it has a cheap Chinese movement instead of the NH35. But I can't remove the case back to check.
This will be heavily discounted in the next Ali sale. That mid case and thick bezel are really off putting.
Watchdives needs to change their name for dress watches.
difficult to understand your microphone while inside, outside sounds a lot better strangely enough
Quartz
Agreed with general opinion
The PD remains by a significant margin the king of the Speedy homages
I think we agree en masse to disagree with the poster -
I think one’s opinion may be altered by a financial incentive
I think it's all a matter of opinion. The PD is great for the price. A nicely shaped case and a lower price point is all that it has going for it, though (IMO). No, the WD isn't perfect (what watch is?) but (again, IMO) The ONLY place this falls short is the case side profile. The better crystal, case finishing, and bracelet are something you can't really argue with....I guess lume matters to some but not others (this blows the PD away), and the more accurate bezel but being a "worse" material could go either way, same with the more accurate dial on the WD. But having them both in hand, I can't see how anyone would pick the PD over the WD...it's just a better made watch...and yeah, sure, some will pay more for that while others won't. 🤷
I wonder if the bracelet would fit the real Speedy.
The things they need to address: 1 the bulky case shape, the sides in particular. 2. Thick bezel. 3. Too big pushers and a crown. 4. The case back opening, 5. Have a date and no date version.
I’m buying one. My real Speedy will be getting a lot less wrist time.
would people be bothered if they just used a white thin chrono seconds hand?
Interesting homage model. I have currently the Pagani one. The big deal breaker of the PD was the bracelet, I couldn't fix it to my 6.5 inch wrist. The watchdive model seems to fix this issue. Case thickness is not my cup of tea, nor the pushers size, there gone too off, just too much. I love instead the aluminium bezel and the big plus is the dial design. Subdials are not so clutter and respect the omega original model. Really cool. All in all, they got plenty of room for a second version for this watch. We'll see. Excellent video by the way and pretty informative.
At mamacoo it's not just a watch; it's an art piece. Each design is crafted with unique inspiration and craftsmanship.
The exquisite production process reveals not just a watch, but a fashionable feast for the senses.
I know the 24 hour subdial isnt really useful but considering it is a moon watch, it is just a little more fitting given the watch it's homaging.
Yes I know a 12 hour totalizer would he more useful. I dont really time events in hours but you may. Yes I know the Speedmaster was originally a racing watch.
Pretty disappointing that the watch just came out and we’re already waiting for a v2 to fix all the problems
My only nitpicks are the bezel being slightly thick and pushers sticking out a bit; I feel like the crown guards could be more pronounced. Other than that, they nailed it! Love the dial & tapered bracelet! Pagani really messed up the bezel numbering scheme with their V3.
Very thick watch! Plus for me that 24 hour dial is useless, give me a chrono that can time 12 hours. Looks good on the rubber band but I prefer butterfly clasps. Good review friend!
Who needs a Moonswatch eh? These watches are killing it!
Case is too thick in this. Case is too thin on the Pagani. Never happy.
You only buy this type of homage once, so I’m waiting for v2.
Don't buy a Speedy homage even if you really want one, buy a Seiko mechaquartz or a Seagull and save the real deal for your grail. I've yet to see a good homage of the thing, and that includes the Moonswatch.
I bought this watch in the sale and awaiting delivery.. looks like I will be sending it back after this review. Or could the dial be swapped out to the PD case which is must better. Your unfairly knocking the PD when Watchdives has the most important aspect wrong .. the case. 😂😂
Not sure why this was put into production with the input you put in and all the mistakes made. They obviously were not listening. The most important part of production should have been getting the case correct.
What happened ???
There are lots of things that need to go right for the"perfect" speedy. IMO watchdives gets more right than Pagani. The case is a huge part, yes, but so is the dial, aluminum bezel, good bracelet, and a good crystal. Sadly at this point nobody makes the perfect speedy clomage, but this one is my favorite. Hoping V2 comes soon
@@EscapeWheel I love the dial layout and the bezel .. buts that side case thickness after listening to comments must be significant.
I have Bulova Luna pilot would you compare the thickness the same? As thats a chunky watch.
If its a year to produce a v2 I may consider trying to swap the dial into a PD case ... if its possible.
@@gillyharwood I haven't had a lunar pilot. Best to just wait and see for yourself. A lot of people say it's not bad, and honestly it's not bad on its own, just when compared to the original or the PD it looks thick. But it's overall thickness is thinner than both
@@EscapeWheel Just got my Speedy delivered . OMG the dial is amazing and I quite like the thicker bezel compared to the PD.. maybe because its not ceramic and looks the part ? The thickness I can live with as when on it wears close to the wrist as you mentioned. Not sure about the bracelet its finishing is good but it feels light and cheap . Maybe its period correct from the 1960s .. doesn't feel as heavy and solid as the PD. So on the wrist the watch feels a little top heavy. Not sure if they have used 316L on the bracelet ? The lume is better than my Bulova Luna Pilot. 😃
This is a decent homage but perfection would mean automatic rather than quartz. Still way better value and higher quality than an Omega x Swatch Moonswatch and way cheaper
Lume is the biggest draw for me here. But that case shape! I hate to say it, but it's ugly. And coin edge caseback? Why? Let's see if V2 addresses these issues.
Since when is an Alu bezel better than ceramic? OK it looks better, but come back after a month on the wrist. The Alu will be scratched and then suddenly the PD will look sooo much better....
Aluminium bezels aquire patina though. It's all about the patina.
@@boomshanka8743 Totally agree with boomshanka. Alu bezel will age nicely. Look at any vintage Rolex or Seiko or whatever brand watch photo and see how absolutely amazing they look all faded and distressed and scratched and worn. It's called character. Ceramic will still look almost new - BORING!!!
And if it only takes a month to scratch up an Alu bezel I must be doing something wrong as I've been wearing my Seiko SRPD heavily for three years and not a mark on it anywhere.
Of course, I know. The next hype..? Pre scratched Alu bezels..?
@@renebense You have no idea how close you are! Spinnaker did a watch called 'The Wreck' that came pre-aged and I'm sure other brands have done similar over the years.
The alu bezel is the reason I don't wear my vintage speedmaster anymore. That dot over 9 bezel doesnt need patina in the wrong place.
Not watchdives best work. That mid case thickness is a NO NO….. Pagani looks much nicer especially side by side. Bring on V2……
Looks like a rebadged Pagani where they forgot to machine the chamfer to make the mid case thinner
What... There are so many differences. Maybe you're confused because they are both homages of the same original watch 😂
Double the price of PD with a chunky, ugly case, no date, and a ghost date position on crown. The only good thing is what they did to the subdial. PD stays the speedy homage king.
100% agreed !!!👋👋👋👋
You're right. This homage is a total pig, I am simply dumbfounded that they green lighted this.
This looks like it’s still in a prototype stage.
No date is not a plus or a minus, it's subjective. The original is no date! And ghost date positions are extremely common, get over it lol
@@arbpotatoesmaybe he doesn't want to get over it... And even harder to let things slide for Watchdives, given all the hype on their improved quality justifying their much higher prices than Pagani's.
A shame both are 2mm too small compared to the OG Speedy
They aren't - the bezel is 40mm, the case 42mm.
PG is terrible
One ugly side view. What were they thinking
Can you replace the Watchdives wd1861 bracet on your Phylida speedmaster? help me please. thank you so much!
I sold the Phylida a while back, sorry
