Synopsis: In a near future, life on Earth has been decimated. Paul (Nicolas Cage) and his twin teenage sons, Thomas (Jaeden Martell) and Joseph (Maxwell Jenkins), have been living a half-life -- tranquility by day and torment by night. When the sun sets, ferocious creatures of the night awaken and consume all living souls in their path. One day, when Thomas doesn't return home before sundown, Paul chooses to leave the safety of their fortified farm to find him before the creatures arrive. Just as he finds his boy, a nightmarish battle ensues and Paul is gravely wounded. Now the twins must devise a desperate plan for surviving the coming night and use everything their father has taught them to keep him alive.

I think it started that way but now he really enjoys the freedom to do original movies that you dont typically see. Nearly all of his "Lower budget" movies are really solid. Why do one or two big hollywood movies that have too many fingers on it when instead you can bust out 3-6 smaller movies with no one telling you what to do.@@billfromEtown

Brings back Night of the Living Dead memories
You would love Dog Soldiers then if you haven't seen it. UK military guys out on a training exercise in the woods come upon the remains of a mysterious special forces group that was torn to shreds, they end up having to barricade themselves in a house and fight off the predators. Really took me by surprise with how fun it was.

My favorite part of that movie was when nothing came at night.
For a minute it was Cage doing low budget indie movies. Then it got to the point where he seemed ok starring in ANY movie available. Fast forward today and it's like prime 90s action hero Nicolas Cage is back doing big films but horror is what this era's Cage will be remembered for. Can't wait for longlegs

One of the more stressful thriller/horror movies I’ve seen, if you can handle excessive shaky cam and don’t mind a pretty basic self contained plot, it’s a great watch.

I expected a 7.5-8.0, based on the director and Nicolas Cage. After watching, I give it a solid 9.0.

This movie was damn good. The best creature design I’ve ever seen.
Finally a horror/sci-fi that breaks the repetitive formula and brings a fresh perspective... A couple male protagonists.
Agree with the male protagonist but the rest was predictable. We need smarter writers.

I know Shyamalan didn't write/direct, but this seems like a cross between Signs and The Village.
