    Hi Danny, I just got back from a 5 day vacation to New Mexico to visit family. I bouhgt this bag on your review and recommendation. For me this is a PERFECT bag for my travel needs..In short everything you mentioned was so true. I LOVE this bag and it will be on many Adventure's in the near future. The value for such a well made backpack makes me feel that it IS the Best part of the total package. I cannot believe that I paid so little for a Great Backpack. Thanks for the Wonderful reviews. Keep them coming.

    Thank you for the brilliant in depth review . This is my favourite travel bag . It is the perfect travel bag one bag personal item , you name it . I think the updates actually ruined the bag . I loved the 2 separate areas and the fact that you could expand it in the lid. I think if they did a mesh pocket instead of the zipped one at the front and a separate laptop compartment this would have been the perfect bag. But oh well
    I have used it on easyJet wizzair and Ryanair as a personal under the seat bag and it was ok . I have used it for a 5 day trip and a 10 day trip and if you are a good packer you can use it for a 2 week trip easy.

    The pocket layout is definitely better on the old model. The open front pocket on the old version is great. Additionally, the lid pocket on the old version is much better (as you pointed out). So my advice: go with the older version. My current favorite travel bag is the 5.11 Daily Deploy 48 pack (39 liters). It’s a real dark horse in the travel community. 😊

    It’s not often I feel like an update is a step backwards, but this feels like a bust compared to the old version to me. I can’t tell you how often I pulled the straps through the clips and stowed the shoulder straps in the pass through portion to simplify the carry. The separate zipper portion was crucial to making it feel like you really got 6 extra liters and was great for dirty clothes separation. The new front zipper is nice to have an added secure tablet space, but the old one was so nice to have quick access to things. A huge dropped ball for me would have been the opportunity to add two clip points and give an optional shoulder strap. The form and function of this bag would be perfect for that carry option. I almost solely buy Osprey packs for the designs and warranty, but this is a bust for me. 😢 The new 36L looks much better!

    • @lynneeie5226
      @lynneeie5226 Před 25 dny +1

      Agree! My husband and I travel with the older style & I agree with your assessment. The older version is a nicer design. That said- I do wish they had added clips to the bottom of the straps so that one didn’t have to slide the straps out in order to stow them away. The Arcane duffel has the clips on the shoulder straps as well as a separate strap to carry it like a duffel… nice features, but the duffel is too large at 37 L for underseat travel. So agree… hope Osprey reads these comments 🤞🏻🤞🏻

    The biggest problem I had with this bag is that it was way less than 26L in its collapsed mode.

    Great video, and great looking backpack, but left me with a doubt - why does this one (26+6=32) have less capacity than the Patagonia MLC Mini (30)? Maybe this is not 32 actual liters?

  • @theunsunghero9
    @theunsunghero9 Před měsícem +8

    I bought the old version yesterday and was annoyed when I saw that there was an update! But then happy when I saw what has changed. The zipper on the front is a good idea, but the way the expansion is redesigned is bad. The old version allows a separate ironed shirt etc to be carried. The old version expands the lid, not the base. Danny didn’t show this though.

    • @dannypacks
      @dannypacks  Před měsícem +1

    • @josegoncalvesdias3242
      @josegoncalvesdias3242 Před měsícem

      I also think the older expansion worked better as it allowed a nice separation. Expanding just the main space into more space just creates more depth that is either harder to pile-up or end up stacking more cubes.
      With the previous one, one could get away without the extra packing cubes much better

    The main problem I see is in its dimensions: 43x33x15 cm.
    If we take Ryanair, which has the strictest rules, then:
    - Under the seat allowance is 40x20x25. Hence, this backpack will not fit.
    - Above the seat (paid) allowance is 55x40x20. Hence, this backpack uses a slight percentage of the allowed dimensions. So it makes sense to take another backpack that is 55x40x20 and fit more stuff.

    • @ninjesus4079
      @ninjesus4079 Před 21 dnem +2

      Ryanair's Sizer real dimensions are 42 x 20 x 30 cm (you know those metal boxes before boarding).
      Many people on Reddit have shown that this Osprey fits in the sizer (with pictures).
      Hope it helps.

      If you don't overpack I think this looks ok for Ryanair

    • @dannypacks
      @dannypacks  Před 17 dny

      Thank you for watching! It’s definitely tricky to manage the dimensions across all the airlines and find something useful that matches up with them. Like others have said I have had good experience with this one on Ryanair and easyjey in Europe but I know it can still be a mixed experience if there are strict airline employees

    I think this is one of the best bags for 1 bag carry. Enough room to pack for a week and then expand if you bought a few things. Like the laptop pocket as opposed to dedicated. Wishes, maybe a little bigger top pocket for stashing things in airport, side handle is on one side of bag and not in center making it feel awkward to carry, and no place for straps. But, I have this bag and love it and travel with it even internationally.

    Osprey is one of my favourite bag brands.
    I honestly think £1 for £1 they're the absolute best ratio of quality to cost to weight you can buy.
    There's more hard-wearing sure, but they're heavier and pricier.
    There's lighter, but they're not as durable and they're more expensive.

    Great video. I would guess that the reason for the change to the half-length luggage strap/harness is so you can tuck the backpack straps in - useful when you only want to carry it by the side handle. But I'm not sure how well that would work considering the bottom of the backpack straps are sown on the outside of the luggage strap, so maybe not... just a thought.
