      Yeah, lol. Not to mention, fingerprint security has been THE standard on premium windows laptops for a while. Windows hello is not secure enough for purchases but fingerprints are. True Face ID would be great, but that’s not what windows hello is.

    You can edit the settings for the touchbar in the keyboard settings. I've disabled the app specific features, and it's really just like the touchbarless version. If you never use the touchbar for anything else, I recommend doing this. You can configure the settings you want to access there too.

    Another very important thing they need to address is the cooling system. Right now it’s not great, but when they update to the 6 core processor and the upgraded GPU it’s gonna be even worse!

    Great video. Very even handed. I wonder if Apple will listen to consumers and fix these known issues such as the keyboard and ppl not liking the touch bar, or if they'll be stubborn and arrogant. Those class action lawsuits may help them come around.

    • @Millahtime
      @Millahtime Před 6 lety +5

      Rather than remove the Touch Bar, why not improve it and make it indispensable? It has the potential, just hasn’t been fully realized. Having contextual buttons rather than static function keys has already proven to be useful in my eyes. Add haptic feedback, and more novel uses, and I think people will change their minds about it.

    What made you think that the 2016 13-inch MacBook Pro didn’t have a Touch Bar model? That makes no sense whatsoever, of course it did. The 2017 refresh was just a spec bump, not the introduction of a new model.
    As for the 2018 keyboard, it will use a new mechanism, one that they’ve had in the works for over a year. It was not inspired by the durability issues, but it is more durable. They could also seal off the keys, it wouldn’t interfere with the mechanism.

    I have the 2017 MacBook Pro without touch bar. Had it for a four weeks and now I’m seeing it’s glitching when I watch xfinity on safari. I avoid chrome bc people say it tends to make ur Mac heat up faster. I already have the smc fan control to have the rpm on the fans be faster to prevent it. Some people are saying in system preferences, energy saver, to turn off the automatic graphics switching but I don’t even have that on my model. Not sure what to do exactly

      @ChamponChannel Před 6 lety +4

      Yes, I was thinking the same. I think only matters if you want form over function. I mean the 12in. Macbook is very good for students and college stuff cuz it's so freaking small and the MBP 15 is basically for content creators and heavier duty than MB 12. Let's face it, Apple takes forever to update their CPUS and GPUS.

      I almost would have gotten the 12" MacBook instead of the 13", it's a great machine. In the end, I couldn't convince myself paying the *same* price for what is basically a tinier MacBook Air. If the MacBook was, say, 200$ cheaper, I would have sprung for it. Also, size and weight between the too aren't as bad of a difference as they used to be.

    What people don’t realize is that the gigantic touchbar of the mbp actually gives you tablet like scrolling. When I am on my mac, I sometimes forget that I am on a laptop and would reach out to the monitor just because I feel like Ikm on touch screen whenever I’m using the track pad. I actually don’t get the hate.
    Also, the loss of mag safe makes up for it by allowing you to use a powerbank to charge your macbook pro. I actually like the recent changes to the macbook pros. Though this is probably unique to me as someone upgrading from the mbp 2012. It’s like night and day.

    I'm a student and I currently have the early 2014 MacBook Air and it's been great but it's definitely time for an upgrade. I'm super conflicted about which MacBook Pro to get. I really like the 2018 base model due to the extra ports, storage, and spec upgrades. But I'm also drawn towards the 2017 base model because it's $500 cheaper and well I'm a student lol my current Air is a 128gb and I still have around 40gb free since I keep most memory heavy things on iCloud and not directly download onto the hard drive. What would you guys recommend I get, the 2017 base model or the 2018 base model. I typically use my computer for student things; essays, videos, textbooks etc. I technically can afford either but what do y'all think is the better deal for someone who would be using the computer like I would be? I got the mix 2017 13 inch MacBook Pro with function keys and I love it :) the keyboard issue isn’t affecting me yet, hopefully it doesn’t happen before I get my next laptop...
    I think the best thing about Touch ID is fast user switching, but since I’m the only user and I have my Apple Watch unlock enabled, I don’t really need it at all.

    I had a 2018 Dell Precision provided by my employer. The trackpad on that dell laptop was complete garbage. I literally couldn't use it without getting frustrated. The curser jumps, almost all the time, and it drove me nuts. Other than the trackpad, that dell was build almost as good as this MacBook Pro.

    3:42 that's something that windows 10 can also do with precision drivers, there is not need to press the right click button to right click.

    • @haydaraliismail317

      Exactly what I thought. That being said, it’s sad that only some laptops used Windows precision driver (although double click to right click doesn’t need precision driver).

      And yet Windows and MacBook touch pads are light years apart. I have a SurfaceBook, a Thinkpad X260 and a MacBook. The latter is the only one that doesn't drive me into a heart attack whenever I forget to bring a mouse.

  • @Zerobob26
    @Zerobob26 Před 6 lety +1

    It's not really the price of the dongles that's the problem. It's the sheer inconvenience of always having to carry the necessary dongles with you. It would be far more convenient to make the machine 10mm thicker and include all necessary ports (USB-A, USB-C, HDMI, SD card reader, Magsafe) plus space for a bigger battery. If you need an ultra thin laptop there's always the MacBook or MacBook Air.

  • @stronghold10a
    @stronghold10a Před 6 lety

    Fair review. The lack of ports kills me tough. You are literally left with one port for everything if you are charging the laptop. Plus the lack of a memory card reader... Apple need to give a step back, to then continue forward

    Touchbar has been in the 13" since the Touchbar was first released in 2016. lol
    It also isn't going anywhere. They'll likely remove the models without the Touchbar in the near future as well as releasing wireless keyboards with Touchbar for desktop Mac users.

    dongle hell is not dongle hell because its hard to find dongles. Its dongle hell because your surrounded with clunky cables, that can easily be lost, and are just downright annoying.

    As far as dongles go, I'm not too concerned about carrying a lot of dongles. It's something that would improve down the line. I've experienced troubles like this with FireWire all those years ago, (400 vs 800, adapters, good cables, etc.), and now at the _very least_ we have really good USB C ports (USB PD, Thunderbolt, USB 3.0, in all ports) in MacBooks Pro, something not all hardware manufacturers can boast. ::SIDE NOTE:: I'm really hopeful for the future of USB C AND Thunderbolt (together), because Apple didn't do well with FireWire before. But I do believe that these very fast connections and tech architecture are vital for future products. Remember the speed on a USB 1.0/USB 2.0 thumb drive (that was by itself, maxed out to 128 MEGABYTES!)?
    Also, the trackpad is something that Apple has always been good at. I previously owned the pre-unibody MacBook Pro (15-inch, Early 2008), and even that trackpad is still something I consider very good, compared with most trackpads on WinPCs that I've used.

    The "perfect" macbook pro for me would be the same exact chassy except with the laptop having a motorized camera (like the oppo) and a bezels screen since I do not use the camera at all. I'd be fine with it removed fully.
