- This machinima short film is the first of its kind for this channel, and hopefully an extremely unique entry into the world of Deep Rock Galactic. We are so excited to share this after months of planning, testing, filming, and editing, and we hope you enjoy watching it as much as we did making it!

Thank you so much, and of course thank you for the game itself! We just filmed the cool stuff you put into the game, but the credit really goes to you all for making it! You all put so much personality into the dwarves and their open-ended lore, so many cool features and animations into the weapons, and so much creativity into the space rig, including the care you put into little extra details like having a spinning counterweight crankshaft on the second floor that people wouldn't ever even see unless they were exploring. All of that made it so that it was easy to come up with a plot within the world you created, and every scene that we thought up looked even cooler than we imagined it would when we actually filmed it.

In '22, Drilling In The Name Of released this; Deep Rock Galactic machinima!, his one of the most accomplished first episode. I think his undisputed masterpiece is "Attack on the Space Rig". A video so eyecandy most people probably don't understand the plot. But they should, because it's not just about the complexity of booziness and the importance of friends. It's also a personal statement about the dwarves themselves. Hey, Jon!

Managment's wanting to squeeze every ounce of profit they can, but they ain't stupid. It takes a hell of a logn time ot get good dwarves trained up, and losses due to incursion or outbreak is bad for the moralof any who get the news.
They ain't a charity, but a good insurance policy is wort hit.

The space rig gets attacked by rogue dwarves. There are a lot of casualties but some manage to escape. They set up a temporary base on Hoxxes. Your new mission: take back the space rig. Welcome to Season 4.

I'd love Machinima if i hadn't had that love/hate relationship with it.
It is fun to see what people come up with and what stories they plot, but still, for the most of the works there will always be that clunky-ness (the moovement /animation/voiceacting limitations) that will always give it that cringy feel.

Thank you! We were worried that we wouldn't be able to get cool shots of that fight because it was just the two of us filming, which meant we had to be fighting and then using a third computer to be filming and a fourth computer occasionally spawning stuff with mods, but we're glad the montage-format worked out!

I already play BTD6 in DRG, 4 engi with every of them have 2 turret also why we dont get more type of turrets :/, but this sound 100% like more fun :D. Rock and Stone !!!

Haha thank you! It was mostly a lot of fun to film, but there were definitely some frustrating parts.
This is so unbelievably creative considering how the ways you can interact with the Space Rig are so limited, Rock & Guys!
Thanks so much! Yeah in a counterintuitive sense that actually made it easier, because we had the creative liberty to do things like pretend that that computer on the second floor can redirect the drop pod's destination. I've always loved how many areas the developers created for the space rig even though they don't actually serve an in game point, and how they have things like that flywheel on the second floor and little touches like that, so I wanted to try and incorporate as many parts of the space rig into this video as possible. That actually made the plot easier to write, because I knew I wanted us to go to each area of the rig and just had to think of reasons for us to go to them.
That was some fine moviemaking work. I loved the part where driller did a salute to the scout. I thought he was gonna sacrifice himself, but nope! Can't go into Hoxxes in your underwear lol

Absolutely love that you're doing Deep Rock Machinima. Trying to capture great shots in DRG feels really robust and janky at the same, but DRG always surprises me time and time again with how great the footage ends up turning out. The camera work and acting in this was incredible, so kudos to everyone that worked on the project with you!

There's only one thing that bugs me; at 6:40, didn't the engi have proximity trigger on his nukes? It would mean that the barrel shouldn't have set it off. A minor detail to be sure, not important and I don't mind it that much, but I am a sucker for details. :)
I mean, he did also use RJ250 rounds just prior. maybe this guy just carries rounds of different construction with him
True, I did notice that as well. Let's just say he caries lots of different rounds on him, it works lore-wise.
Now I want a mod that lets me do that.
Any modders out there?
Haha yeah we took a lot of creative liberties with how the weapons worked in this. But actually, I think I did still have proximity trigger on my PGL when we filmed that shot. Proximity trigger "takes a moment to arm" meaning that if you shoot it point blank at something then it will still explode on contact rather than bouncing around. It's a good way to get yourself killed.

I'd love if they had missions going down to different randomly generated levels of the Space Rig to deal with glyphid infestations brought back from missions and stuff, and you had a great the gravity, power, oxygen and stuff back online, with swarms chasing you through the corridors!
Rock and Stone! I actually originally had the idea for a video like this about a year ago when Banagement first made the "weapons in the space rig" mod, and I was originally thinking we'd have us fighting bugs who had invaded the space rig. The problem, though, was that even though you can use mods to spawn bugs in the space rig, they aren't able to move and most of them won't even attack or really use any of their AI in the space rig. Then one day two months ago we were messing around shooting each other in the space rig and I realized we should just make a video fighting other dwarves in the space rig (I don't know why it took me so long for that to occur to me). But yeah, fighting bugs in the space rig would be super cool!

@@GunterThePenguinHatesHugs We've got a backstory planned for the bad guys which we'll slowly reveal in future episodes... But yeah I love the lore that GSG has created for the game. For our purposes, it was also pretty great that it's relatively vague and up for interpretation, because that allowed us to create our own lore for this series without contradicting the canon of the game.

Thanks! Do you know how to get a controller to work with Ansel or some other free cam? I actually tried that once but I couldn't get it to change the inputs to the controller instead of the mouse. If there's a way to do that, that would be really awesome, because the jerkiness of using a mouse for those shots is definitely a pet peeve of mine. We've kind of been just making up our camera techniques as we go along, so there are probably better ways to do things that we haven't figured out yet.

@@testi_test Actually DITNO just got it to work with a PS4 controller. Thanks for the tip! We'll definitely be using that in the next episode. I think it didn't work for me because I was using a weird off brand USB controller that wasn't being recognized for mapping.

Thanks! We were actually originally going to have DITNO kill the engineer with a TCF blast and disintegrate him that way, but then DITNO had the great idea for the barrel kick. But don't worry, the EPC will definitely be showing up in future episodes!
