- A law-enforcement investigator tries to shame his bowling obsessed brother-in-law into paying heed to his family. But he is as yet unaware that the man is prepared to take his obsession to far greater heights. One day, the brother-in-law vanishes in a bowling alley and the investigator discovers that he might still be there - but in an alternate plane of consciousness.

I always loved on Friday nights my small transistor radio under the pillow listening to the shows 40 years ago.

I am so impressed with these writers from back then! I remember Larry Haines’ voice and I can still remember what he looked like. I did just a little research and found that many of these “better” writers, such as Sam Dann, often wrote stories like this on a weekly basis - sometimes more than one a week! I understand that his daughter has also turned out to be a good writer, as well! All my life, I have loved reading stories and books since I was 8, and have always preferred them to movies because my mind immediately “tries” to give me a picture of each character, based on the voices of the wonderfully written characters and story-lines - even though I’m not usually aware until afterwards. I was given my first transistor radio when I was 9, and listened to “Stairways to the Stars”, and other shows, by putting it under my pillow at night (I am the oldest of 8 children, and we all shared one bedroom: we 3 sisters shared a double bed, 3 of my brothers shared another double bed, and 2 more brothers shared a bunk bed for a number of years). I enjoy “listening” more to stories such as these, and audiobooks, rather than “watch” the stories acted out on a screen. Perhaps that is a good thing, since I am now suffering from macular degeneration (slowly losing my sight, to which there is no cure). I also have cataracts forming, which I know can be taken care of. I just want you to know how important these stories are, and have been, to me, and probably so many more people. Though I have had skin cancer surgery, hysterectomy at 36 due to large, painful tumours (thank goodness I had already had my two children), cancer of my right breast which required removal of half of it, and lost my right kidney to cancer, and other medical surgeries due to genetic damage to my DNA from birth, the one thing that I would truly miss is being able to continue reading and doing my sewing, as I have always sewn my own clothes since I was 14, sewn my children’s clothes, made even a Harris Tweed jacket for my husband (which won first prize at the County Fair), done quilting and sewn curtains and drapes and any other items for the house. Most of all, though, I would miss seeing the faces of my children and my husband. I just want to truly thank you for these great stories that I hope I will always be able to listen to!! 🥰 Thank you so very much for all the time and effort for putting these out here for all of us ! My only regret is that I do not understand how to “save” these stories so that I shall always have these for my future. I can move around a little in CZcams, but that is about it. I came late to this technology, unfortunately, because of all my medical problems.

The dude in this story is addicted to bowling the way other people are addicted to gambling.
As a non-bowler I found this story a significant stretch. Anyway, if you enjoy the sport this might entertain you. There a few red herrings that I think mislead the listener. I do like the two key male actors. But scattering pins as a metaphor for life is digging deep.

One thing that could have lent some credibility to Joe's story to the psychiatrist. If he would have gone back to Mrs. Soames and told her to search the dead files for the bearer bonds that Bobby Clover told him about. Joe could have provided some proof that way.

Touches on interesting point. The people who study obsession, fetishes, etc. may often be addicts, addictive, themselves. Surely they should be vetted for such things if they are ‘expert witness’ in case where addiction, etc is part of the case.

I have won and lost vast sums of funny money (Hylian Rupees, Bolts, Lego Studs etc.) in video games, but I gambled only very small amounts of real money.
I have lost MILLIONS of Lego Studs lol, but at least I have Darth Maul to show for it xD
