The best LIRR video I have ever4 seen. I felt like I was in the cab with my great-grandfather who was an LIRR Engineer and a Motorman. The video clarity was excellent. I never saw the view before from Penn Station. I am sitting in front of my computer with a window on my right. It gave me a great feeling of being there. I looked to my right to see the Woodside station as we passed by it, GREAT JOB!

Great shot of the 100+ year old East River Tunnel. All new signals east of the tunnel. Looks like part of the East Side Connection work. 10:13--where the old Rockaway Beach Branch started. Notice partially buried tracks around 10:26. 11:40-probably where the Rego Park (served only by Rockaway Beach Branch trains) was located. Could not see where tracks crossed the White Pot Underjump. Wonderful video.

I remember taking this to Freeport (Jones Beach) straight from Penn Station. Sometimes even to Atlantic Ave to catch the D train back to the Bronx. Excellent video overall.
Awesome! Reminds me of when I took this instead of the IND "E" to Penn Station; 30min difference. Though with so much straight track and gentle curves, I could imagine this being an HSR line one day...
Remember the Thanksgiving Eve wreck (Kew Gardens/Richmond Hill) in 1950. Story was that the following train came around a curve. Motorman saw a proceed signal ahead. Didn't see the train that had stopped in front of the signal. Began to increase his train speed and saw the stopped train ahead at the last moment; too late to stop. Wonder if that sequence starts at about 12:50 and ends under the apartment building at 13:30. Obviously, very little has stayed the same in almost 70 years. However, that's the only curve I could see that would have created the event. Just wondering,
Did you notice vast difference with quite and steady ride with upgraded all welded track on concrete ties? How far have Long Island Railroad got with this ? Looks like they relined tunnels from Penn, Was this necessary after flooding from hurricane. Looks nice and clean now. Got a family I know in New York now complaining about it being cold. They are use to wearing shorts all year,even to high school. Got any other recent videos ? THANKS, HEAPS from Sydney, down under.
I find it interesting that they decide to divert the train at 7:25 to the local track, but then just sends it back to the previous track at 15:00 which makes it pass all the platforms along the way. Seems like an added risk that is not necessary.
Penn Station? Looks like an oversized version of Chambers Street subway station with the lingering smell of diesel. I think the clip is great, but Penn Station is in some deep shit right now. Apart from that, I love LIRR!
Have they ever heard of paint in this place or a pressure washer.. What a dump of an underground system. I guess you have to ride trains in Europe to see how it's done.
The system is operated at almost double its capacity and runs 24/7. Any disruption (like closing a tunnel or platform for cleaning) would bottleneck NYC and the markets. Moreover, the transit systems (MTA, Amtrak, NJT) suffer notorious financial hardships. Finally, New Yorkers tend not to care about the aesthetics of their commute. Rats, mold, and 70's era trains are commonplace and accepted.
Those are some old ass tracks. Why did New York State they never modernize it? Wooden beels instead of concrete. Old switches, no wielded tracks. Tsjeez New York invest in some of your infrastructure this looks bad

GREAT VIDEO. I worked for the LIRR 32 years. I retired in 2003 18 years ago. I see they cleaned alongside the tracks. Again thanks for the video

I could see in the real life the same scenario race in my TSW Train Sim World® - Long Island Railroad, the wonderfull train simulator game made by Dovetail Games Limited© (DTG). It’s incredible the realistic of this scenario they’ve built in this game play in comparison with the reality.

I see new color light signals, old position light signals, some of the stanchion signals. Will the LIRR EVER standardize it's signals to one type?

The LIRR routinely does this. They call it "polishing rail", and it keeps the switches in constant use and their rails polished.
