    Very unsettling and creepy.
    And all the damn singing.

*The Wicker Man is a 1973 British folk horror film directed by Robin Hardy and starring Edward Woodward, Britt Ekland, Diane Cilento, Ingrid Pitt, and Christopher Lee. The screenplay by Anthony Shaffer, inspired by David Pinner's 1967 novel Ritual, centres on the visit of Police Sergeant Neil Howie to the isolated Scottish island of Summerisle in search of a missing girl. Howie, a devout Christian, is appalled to find that the inhabitants of the island have abandoned Christianity and now practice a form of Celtic paganism. Paul Giovanni composed the film score.

Sorry, Ge:o - don't mean to fill up your TL here with a second comment, but after watching you yesterday I was telling my roommate about The Wicker Man. Turned out he'd never seen it. So... we watched it this afternoon. He's an Irishman FROM Limerick and a Police Detective Lt. here now, so his reaction was exquisite. He was trying to solve the case, and got REALLY into the movie. Loved the music, too. He's also relentlessly Catholic, and kept saying "This bunch is weirder than YOU lot!" to us (the rest of us are Orthodox Jews). The ending he stood up, hands on his head, cussing in Gaelic. It was as entertaining as watching YOU - and his growing intense interest in the story was just like yours, too. Thank you, Ge:o, AGAIN. You've done a mitzvah with this.

Nice to see a reaction from a Scotsman! This is one of my favourite movies even though I don't think it necessarily fits the horror genre. It's its own thing.
And I highly recommend the Nic Cage remake! Everything from the script to the acting to the concept is unintentional hilarity. It's one of the funniest things you'll ever see. 😂

Thank you, thank you, thank you for watching this; I’ve yet to see anyone else react to this masterpiece of cinema.
I have been a fan of The Wicker Man since I saw it when I was about 15. It is arguably the greatest British horror film of all time & rightly so.
Over the years, I visited several of the filming locations in Scotland; Plockton where Sgt Howie lands is an amazing little village near Kyle of Lochalsh on the north west coast.
Back in 2007 I had the great honour of meeting Sir Christopher Lee. I’ve been a fan of his for as long as I could remember, thanks due to his incredible body of work with Hammer Films. We had a lengthy conversation about those films & the production of The Wicker Man.
Right up until to his death, Lee remained adamant that there was a much longer cut of this film. Rumour has it, British Lion films disposed of hundreds of reels; one of which was this much longer cut of The Wicker Man.
Then in 2013, we got The Final Cut of The Wicker Man. This involved a restoration of the original theatrical print & also the few additional scenes that had been re-edited into it for the directors cut several years earlier.
Which ever version you watch, The Wicker Man always leaves a last impression on you.
Fun Fact: when I was at first school (age 5-10 here in England at the time) we had an annual May Day Fair…….complete with May Pole Dancing. What can I say, I grew up in a village in the Yorkshire Dales.
Several places in Cornwall still hold festivals around that time of the year. The most famous being the Obby 'Oss festival, which is held in Padstow every May Day.

Man, I LOVE your reaction! This is one of my favourite films - it's quiet, but SO darn creepy. The remake is hilarious - but this original is just SUPERB. I still find it disturbing. So glad I found your channel, you're awesome! For scary films... that's a toughie. My mum was an Auschwitz Survivor, so we were told ghosts/monsters were silly, PEOPLE were to be feared (she actually laughed during The Exorcist & was told to stop making comments like "Feh, she can vomit, starving is the worst horror, if you can vomit you're well fed" LOL). Onibaba disturbs me. This version of The Wicker Man disturbs me. The original Raymond Burr-less "Godzilla" disturbs me. "Come And See" and "Threads" are absolutely horrifying. Now for a LAUGH - when I was 4 or 5 I saw "Matango" (Attack Of The Mushroom People) - I didn't eat mushrooms 'til I was 35 LOL "Island Of Terror" scared the cr*p out of me (also saw it when I was 4 or 5) but now I find it amusing... Glad to "meet" you, Ge:o; going to binge your vids this weekend!!!

I first saw this film over 30 years ago as a teenager. I think this movie is really only a horror film if you're Christian. My pagan friends and I think the cop's constant spouting of his beliefs are hilarious, because the Summerisle folks aren't trying to convert him and they don't care what religion he is. He just sounds pompous and full of himself, and it really is his own decisions that lead him to his doom.

Why paganism was largely abandoned and should be rejected to this very day. Say what you want about Christianity, human sacrifice is an evil act. Jesus Christ came and died for our salvation (John 3 : 16-17), so such barbarism depicted in this movie can be banished.
Fun Fact: Sir Christopher Lee said that he considers this to be one of his greatest performances.
Location Location Fact: Filmed in 1972 in Galloway, Scotland. There was some controversy when Galloway was labelled as the "bleakest place on Earth" by Britt Ekland. The producers were forced to apologize to the locals.
Evil Eye Fact: The "evil eye" rowing boat, which takes Sergeant Howie (Edward Woodward) to and from his plane, was not constructed for this movie. It belonged to a resident of Plockton. Upon seeing it, the producers decided it would suit the movie. The boat survived until 2004 when it was destroyed in a storm.

    • @vanyadolly
      @vanyadolly Před rokem

What? Not all paganism was about human sacrifice, and Christianity has been responsible for more death and executions than any other religion on the planet. Did you conveniently forget about the crusades and the witch hunts?

Isn't it ironic, though? Jesus himself was a human sacrifice, intended to be crucified by "god" to save others. What's the difference between this and sacrificing people for prosperity? Both are for saving. I don't defend either of these, I believe in a non-punishing, non-awarding, non-talking, non-thinking god, all the other interpretations force humanity on god. As Spinoza said:"Ask a triangle what his god looks like and it will say:" a triangle." ".

      windyhead7960 ...Difference?
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast." -Ephesians 2 : 8-9 (NIV)
      That's the difference.
Go with God and Be Safe from Evil. 😎 👍

@@BigGator5 It's all in your mind, every religion creates its own credibility. I've always been highly suspicious of these books; who knows who wrote them? Who twisted them for their own benefit? But whatever, argument is no good in these matters, no one is convinced anyway, so stay safe and good luck🍀
