  • What’s up guys! This video shows you a walk around review of the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek Sport which supports the 2.5 Boxer engine and CVT. I show you a walk around as well as a 0-60 with GPS support demonstrating the difference between a revved launch and just going off idle at about 4,000’ of elevation!

    Sport mode! Everyone forgets about it and drives me crazy. It makes a difference for sure.

      Good point! I’m planning to do a 2023 Limited 2.5 later this week potentially so I’ll try it then. I’m not sure this Sport would have done better based off what the environmental conditions and what it’s “rated” at. If you noticed the CVT did it’s job well in holding power. Thanks for watching! 🙂

      @@AutomotiveAnonymous208 If available please in any Crosstrek change the (I) to (S). Sport Mode! Bottom right button on the right side of the steering wheel. It makes a satisfying beep.

      In my experience testing other Crosstreks and other Subarus since then the Sport mode is basically like a 1 “gear” lower mode to hold a more power RPM position while driving. But, from a revved launch it doesn’t help get a better 0-60, it’s still going to brake rev to the same RPM, and then it’s just a matter of the CVT holding its peak power RPM. I hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching! 🙂

      @@AutomotiveAnonymous208 Does it change the torque band? It is "supposed". I notice a difference but I've never tried a 0-60 pull in both modes for comparison.

    • @AutomotiveAnonymous208
      @AutomotiveAnonymous208  Před rokem +1

      Yes, when you’re driving it has more torque on demand by basically being in a lower simulated gear. But when launching from a stand still it hasn’t shown improvements in my testing. Honestly, even in one of these first videos I did I caught that I was in “I” rather than “S” and attempted to redo the test on the same spot on the road. And in “S” it was actually a 1/10th slower, lol. Probably due to increased system heat. So I left the video of “I”. But it goes to show that in that specific situation the sport mode doesn’t help.

    In 1987 I bought a brand new Subaru turbo 4wd wagon. It was a very capable vehicle for exploring remote backroads in the desert-canyon country of central Utah.

    The 2.0L is not nearly as bad as a lot of critics make it out to be; it is perfectly adequate for reasonable driving. That said, Subaru should just make the 2.5L standard in the Crosstrek and Impreza. It gets nearly the same mileage as the 2.0L, and I cant imagine it is much more expensive to produce. The Impreza "Sport" model in particular needs the 2.5L, as it is kind of absurd for the Sport model to have less power than the uplevel Crosstreks.

    • @AutomotiveAnonymous208
      @AutomotiveAnonymous208  Před rokem +1

      Spot on, I agree! If you haven’t watched it yet I’ve posted a video of the 2.0 vs. the 2.5 same road/day. The acceleration is big at 3-4 seconds faster in the 2.5. But you’re right the 2.0 is a good engine.

      @edsmith9855 Před rokem +1

      @@AutomotiveAnonymous208 That is a bigger difference than I have seen in most tests. Usually there is about a 1 to 2 second difference.

      @@edsmith9855 yeah I was surprised as well! The 2.0 was not brand new like the sport, but still the same second generation 2019+ so I don’t imagine it’s changed much. Kinda crazy. But density altitude robs naturally aspirated power at altitude. 😅

      Im in the UK, you make a valid point. We only get the 2.5 in the Outback and its a great engine, as you say, not much more to run it compared to the 2.0 as you dont need to work it as much and the revs stay low with the CVT. I would have the new Outback if I could afford it. I tested the XV (Crosstrek) with the 2.0 and it was more than quick enough on our roads with plenty of pull, but sadly the XV is hybrid only here now. Too heavy and gives no better MPG.

      If you’re in the market I highly recommend them! But if it’s in your budget I think the Limited is the best trim. To get the 2.5 engine and the LED headlights. After owning a halogen headlight crosstrek for 2 years and now a LED headlight outback, I would never want to go back. The safety improvement of more power and better night time visibility only has to be worth it a few times to justify it in my opinion. Thanks for watching! 😀

      Only if it was an aftermarket turbo, which is very rare on this platform and likely not the case. I will say a lot of people wish this was turbo’d. You can tell a factory turbo Subaru by popping the hood and seeing the big metal rectangular intercooler on top, rather than the regular X shaped black plastic intake manifold. Sorry for any confusion you and your family have had with the dealership! 😔

      More than likely unfortunately. It’s kinda sad how often someone who is unfamiliar with car mechanics will say a car is turbo’d or supercharged, lol. I’ve even had a salesman tell me his car was aftermarket turbo’d and I asked to check out his set up, when he popped the hood it was obviously only an aftermarket intake straight to the throttle body, no turbo. 😅😬
