As others have pointed out, to avoid the masking problem, either use MPs or INR track. I personally use MPs just in case my TGP goes crazy and gimbal rolls
Put a markpoint on your target if you want the location to persist while you terrain mask or maneuver - TMS right short. Then TMS right long to make the mark SPI
If ya look my CZcams uploads there should be a REALLY old video (that I forgot about until now) using the CDU and waypoints to triangulate a radar's position. It's slower than your process I think, but the result was surprisingly good. The CDU method, too, is hillbilly af. :D and I'm sure it is not very realistic at all. I like the HMCS method a lot more but we didn't have that back then haha
I watched that video at least 3 times back in the day. It was one of the first things I ever watched about the Warthog. I tried it once or twice but didn't have the patience for it, but it helped me learn about mark points and using the CDU, which I really need to brush up on anyway. I thought it was pretty clever, regardless of how realistic it might or might not have been. I do like the new HMCS though and I think it makes it a bit easier in many ways. Thanks!
About the masking stuff at 10:28, change the TPOD from AREA to INR or something similar, TMS aft x2 i guess was the key, been a while since i've flown the hog. That mode is not affected by masking.
In INR mode, the laser can still get masked. The TGP will still track the spot without actually seeing the spot but, you won't be able to lase the target if the laser is masked. Also, Max distance for those rockets is 5 miles. You were firing them off at over 5.5 miles away.
I had to go look that up. To be honest it looks like I'd get tired of it within a few minutes. It looks funny at points but I doubt I get that one. Thanks for the tip though!

Those shots that weren't tracking may have been because you were in IR mode rather than LASER.
The SA-19 fires a SACLOS missile that is guided by the radar, with an optical backup. It's really interesting.
