  • Making progress on the x-carriage mounts for my cnc rebuild and I decided to take up ‪@MaltandMake‬ on a challenge to make a less than 1 min short in a slightly different style. Whilst it's not hugely dissimilar to my normal, I did spent a lot more time thinking about shots and incidentals that I wouldn't normally bother with.

Great video! Old man tip for this one, any three jaw or scroll chuck, tighten at all points. It will take the lash out of the scroll and make the chucked piece run more true. That one was drilled into me when I first started. Keep up the great work!!

That's an interesting tip, I'm going to have to try it. I certainly notice sometimes I've not tightened enough and maybe this is why. Though doing all these operations, spot drill, through drill, counter sink, chamfer, and also tightening the Chuck at all the points on every change might drive me to investigate expensive quick change setups :-)

Thanks, and yes barring the mistakes, a pleasant way to while away a Sunday

Amazing, thanks for joining the challenge! I wish there were more machining videos like this on CZcams. Did you get the robot cameraman to do the moves or shoot wide and do it in the edit?
Guess I'll have to release my video now!

It's all robot cameraman. I smooth it out in post, but don't generally add motion that way. I actually had to fix the software to allow better choices of motion speed to try and match it to the moves. Planning the shots this way makes me notice how often I am in the way :-) maybe if I automate the machine and the camera my pesky self wouldn't keep messing up takes

@@MakerGeek Haha I definitely have two stances when using a machine - the normal and the 'filming this' stance! Hope to see some more shots like this in your videos again.

Thank you. Only took 8 takes and learning to use a chuck key with my left hand to get both the movment and me not blocking the shot with my arm :-)
