this is honestly one of the best RC vids i have ever seen. not only is it showing an oddity for a crash, but i am legit IMPRESSED that this plane took that hit with what appears to be NO damage?
let's all give it up for foam and how amazing this hobby has become.
i grew up with wood nitro planes and man, hearing that sound it made when it hit, i was EXPECTING a pile of parts, and you just popped the wing fasteners lol.
when you showed it back on the stand, it literally looked like a brand new model, i even thought for sure the nose cone would need to be replaced, but it appeared to somehow have taken that direct impact from that high up?
helluva video and a helluva model. glad you sorted out the issue w the crash and reverse thrust.

David that's how I look at it the TWO maiden attempts with flaps. I just never even thought about some Genius of RC setting reverse thrust on a Beech 18. The second hit was from a higher altitude where I almost recovered but hit harder doing easily glued damage. Smart esc programmer came yesterday, will remove thrust reverse today. Thank you Jeff

This is a prime reason that modelers make the best student pilots. This is a great (system induced) VMC demo for my multi students. Modelers know more about aerodynamics, the effects of wind, and CG loading from the outset. They know more about stall/spin scenarios and pattern work than the average student. I hate the word average since flying an aircraft takes above average skills to begin with. Great video.

So glad the mishap worked out in your favor. I have this model too. I need to take it out more. Really is a nice bird to fly scale. I made the same mistake on my Draco. Separated all surfaces and left without reverse thrust. Sorted that and went flying. Selected full flap and into reverse thrust! Thought I had hit the reverse switch by mistake and then she crashed - unbelievably just a snapped stbd gear. Amazed when I discovered what I'd done wrong - flap and reverse thrust were sharing same channel whilst also on separate switches. So testing rev thrust on the ground it seemed normal. Never did a ground test of selecting full flap with engine running - wouldn't have occurred to me to do so!

I bought this used partially assembled. I finished putting together and bound it to my NX10. I setup everything including the flaps. I didn't setup reverse thrust. I put the props back on after setting up the linkages and my flap settings. I did taxi it in the yard but never put the flaps down, at the field I did my 360 range test. I didn't watch the first flights maiden that went great until I put down the flaps. It was gusty and I first thought it stalled. I went out for the second flight and it was a nice day and when I hit the flaps I knew it was reverse thrust. Then after watching the flight videos you could see it go down as soon as I hit the flap switch. I don't know if the previous owner set up reverse thrust or not. Thank you Jeff

It sure was thrust reverse. The previous owner that passed away must have set it up on the same switch I used for flaps. If I would have watched the video from the first crash before the second crash I would have seen that reverse was setup. I did all my flap checks with the motor cut off on. When I taxied around the yard and field before the maiden I didn't use the flaps. Now I test all planes and flaps on the ground. Thank you Jeff
