Thank you very much my Japanese friend, also thank your friend for me please for showing his collection. Lovely knives, beautiful craftmanship . Excellent video. Regards, Chris.
Your friends collection of Japanese knives is terrific. Very beautiful knives. I have never seen knives with convex grinds on one side and saber to zero grind on the other. Thank you for sharing.
Any one of those knives can easily become a family heirloom, I think. Especially the ones with the incredible mirror polish. Thank you very much Virtuovice for allowing us to view these.
Wow. These are really beautiful and stunning knives. Thank you so much for sharing. Right now, I don't know where to start to research and look up these knives. Fingers are itching again.....
Many thanks to you and your hunting friend for taking the time to show us his knives. Some of those damascus blades, especially the Yusui Itou @ 11:42, were beautiful.
What a wonderful treat! Thank you for sharing so much about Japanese knives. I am like you and love American knives mainly by Cold Steel,Ka-bar and Ontario. Your videos are very thoughtful and original. Thank you for all you do and thank you to your friend for sharing his beautiful collection.
I've been a fan and subscriber for awhile now. My favorite video is your two part shashimi video. And this is my second favorite now. Thanks for sharing.
These knives are exquisite. You are highlighting the best of Japanese knifemaking tradition. I will follow from now on. Carry on the good work. Kind regards.
Very beautiful brother, He must be very proud of them all, A collection I would love to own for myself, Thank you for taking the time to show us them. Regards Cliff.
Primo knives. Top notch craftsmanship. I esp. enjoyed seeing the wooden sheath on the 1st knife. Very elegant contrast between the gloss black paint and the light brown leather. Also the steel, wrap around, reinforcing brackets on some of the leather sheaths was interesting. The rivets will never bite into the leather. And once again, a pleasing contrast, this time between steel and leather. I think details like that break up the monotony of the leather shape and color.
you are lucky to be Japanese, really awesome knives there. I was drooling for a half an hour :) I do like that final higonokami knife - seems like a good all around EDC knife.
Hey,So many beautiful knives ,hard to pick a favorite. Please tell your friend Mr.Sato thank you.The sharpness of his knives is superb.Thank you very much.
Really love the simple looking fishing knife @ 12:00 I like the look and agility of slim/narrow handles, sadly I need large thick handles, I have large hands (index knuckle to pinky knuckle portion is over 10cm) F1 is just too small for me to comfortably use, even the Mora companion is a bit too small and gives me cramps quickly.
Mr. Sato has a wonderful knife collection! I have never seen the Kitano edge design before. Very interesting! Japanese knife makers look to be very skilled craftsman indeed! Thank you for taking the time to showcase these knives. Did Mr. Sato fully skin the stags that you took that day? I would very much like to see his technique if he did. I hope that you filmed your hunting experience with him. As always, a great video. Thank you!
Wako-san and Sato-san... Amazing knives!! All of them are beautiful knives. Trying hard to learn japanese!!! it is a very very hard language to learn, even harder than chinese!! especially with the different dialects hahaha
Very nice. Though I am glad we do not have the same length restrictions where bear & boar are concerned I tend to like a bit larger blade. I still like smaller knives for utility, skinning etc but for dispatching dangerous animals & defense I prefer my larger 12" bowie or my 16" dagger.
@traderjoes Kitano edge is very unique. But theoretically I will need a convex bevel on its right side to get back straps beautifully. I guess he is not a field dressing hunter like me. Thanks.
@haywoodf He said he basically didn't sharpen them but sent them back to the makers to resharpen them once a year. It's his way and he loves hard steels, while I love kinda soft steels and sharpening them myself. Thanks.
Professor how are you, I connected the dots from one of your Japanese Choppers, in a different video, I think. Anyhow it's a Coping Style front (flat), I could understand the similarity between it and the Carpenters Hatchet both having a straight flat bevel, both can be used for forming and carving wood. I alway's wanted one so I got a Ka-Bar Zomstro which reminds me of your Japanese Chopper, a few weeks ago I was able to form out a Pancake Lattle which is a large type of a spoon. I really enjoy your videos, Thanx.
Many Japanese knives and many Fallkniven knives have a sandwitch construction. The core is hard steel and the sides are soft steel. When the blade is long like a Japanese sword, its construction will be needed definitely. The broken sword must be defeated. But I don't think the sandwitch construction is practically needed for short knives. I suspect the makers take it to cut the steel cost. Damascus is for the side steel and I personally won't need it for my short hunting knives. Thanks.
Thanks to you and Mr Sato for sharing the many interesting Japanese knives. There were some very hight Rockwell C hardness values on a few of those steels. For those high RC steels, is there any special blade use care needed to avoid chipping? ありがとう
The G Sakai ZDP 189 and the following one is quite beautiful, Id love to see you test it and see how it cuts flesh/backstraps. The edge design is so unique. Keatanu?
@Tanrichguy He totally skinned some deer and got all the meat for his friends and sausages or some. But after he got satisfied with much meat, I did it in my way on his behalf. Thanks.
While I agree that Damascus in most cases is cosmetic, wouldn't you also agree that if you were to twist two high strength modern steels, like maybe a ZDP-189 and a S30V or 1095, in the Damascus fashion along with a proper heat treat, that they would be considerably stronger than one strong steel alone?
@Febeleh I agree, and especially folding a soft and a very hard steels together, I think that will result in absolutely chipping resistance, and hard edge retention holding blade, at the same time.
@JesusFuckingChrist84 No limit literally. I ever got 3 stag a day twice this season and I already got 16 stag in a month and some days. I will get 70 stag this season. Hunters are few and deer are plenty here. Thanks.
Jay Cool I think he meant a good knife for bear fighting as he's mentioned that they aren't allowed to carry large knives, or handguns the only thing to protect themselves are bear repellent and a knife.
Thank you Sir for sharing your expertise. Your videos make us all better knife lovers.
Thank you very much my Japanese friend, also thank your friend for me please for showing his collection. Lovely knives, beautiful craftmanship . Excellent video.

@chinarocks2 I agree with you. Many of them seems like pricey collectible items. Thanks.
Wako-san and Sato-san... Amazing knives!!
All of them are beautiful knives. Trying hard to learn japanese!!! it is a very very hard language to learn, even harder than chinese!!
especially with the different dialects hahaha
You continue to evolve your productions. I enjoyed this particular style. Perhaps you have more friends?
I collect Japanese outdoor knives. I live in Japan. Arigato ,Great video.
Nice knives .
Very nice. Though I am glad we do not have the same length restrictions where bear & boar are concerned I tend to like a bit larger blade. I still like smaller knives for utility, skinning etc but for dispatching dangerous animals & defense I prefer my larger 12" bowie or my 16" dagger.
@Romanlegionnaire77 I have never seen he had a Rockstead knives. He seems like a supporter for genuine hand made custom knife makers. Thanks.
very nice collection.
i love the bear fighting comments :P

07:36 awesome knife. I think the best.

@paciuc Japanese custom knives are very pricey. Scandinavian custom knives are less expensive. Bark Rivers are just good for my purse. Thanks.
@lifegivesmeheadaches No. In ancient ages the Damascus would be tougher. But now it is just cosmetic IMO. Thanks.
Thanks to you and Mr Sato for sharing the many interesting Japanese knives. There were some very hight Rockwell C hardness values on a few of those steels. For those high RC steels, is there any special blade use care needed to avoid chipping? ありがとう
Beautiful knives! However, I wouldn't use any of them for bear fighting, lol! I'd use a gun.
Very nice collection indeed! The Damascus blades are very beautiful, but do they provide any advantage over the common 1095 steel when hunting?
The G Sakai ZDP 189 and the following one is quite beautiful, Id love to see you test it and see how it cuts flesh/backstraps. The edge design is so unique. Keatanu?
with the first knife, would it be possible to do batoning and other heavy work?
@Tanrichguy He totally skinned some deer and got all the meat for his friends and sausages or some. But after he got satisfied with much meat, I did it in my way on his behalf. Thanks.
Wow....
Where can I get the first one...actually all of them beautiful collection.

Hello! Do you know where i can buy the knife from 28:14 ?
The knife is custom made by Kitano Edge. It is not available any more even in Japan.
Damn these are some of the best knifes.. I love knifes too but these are very rare and pretty expensive.. I can't get any better then this..
Nice japanese custom ,why you prefer american or european knives?
I like sakai very lot!!
bye
Is the art of skinning an kill lost in Japan? If so that is very sad.
did you really say bear fighting knife ???
Jay Cool I think he meant a good knife for bear fighting as he's mentioned that they aren't allowed to carry large knives, or handguns the only thing to protect themselves are bear repellent and a knife.

If that convexed ZDP were to meet God in its journey, I can say with little Ego that God shall be cut.
