      Only downfall to sunex is how the 12 will be super thick, but the 13 super thin because they are the same blank. Broke 13 3x and 21 2x in 8 years

      @TxToolGuy the only problem i have I found with Pittsburgh is they try to beef up the inside so you loose depth say you're doing something with a long stud you only get half the depth of a normal socket I'd buy sunex or capri way before I'd buy Pittsburgh or those others just a waste of money completely. My preference is Mac US sockets. I've been very pleased with them for all-around performance. Wright tools would be my next pick for top quality.

    Running Milwaukee sockets cos they were some of the cheapest impact sockets I could find. Not the biggest fan of them. Found the square broach seems to wear out too quickly. The common sizes I use regularly fit loose on my impact now and has a small amount of play which will result in lost performance. If I attach one of the sizes I rarely use they fit snug, so they definitely started off nice. I also haven't owned them for all that long which is disappointing. I'll probably be looking at replacing them with something nicer in the future

  • @ktbowersbellsouth

    Once again, it comes down to materials and design. Those Taiwan-made sockets that are made for Cornwell, Matco, etc, are built to a customer-defined standard. Whereas, other brands like Capri and Tekton are built out of standard materials with common designs. If a manufacturer copies the standard designs, uses either Cr-Mo or Cr-V, and follows the ASME for heat treating, the socket should hold up. I’d be very concerned if buying a Chinese made socket, manufactured from common steel, but had a thinner wall than comparative brands. Like you said, the cheaper brands typically beef up the wall thickness to compensate for inferior metal and/or design. In general, while some will say “you get what you pay for” I look at which brands are tried and true. Price doesn’t always mean higher quality, nor does it poorer quality… I look for the brands with pedigree. Good materials and design, with an established pedigree of performance and reliability is what I consider before buying.

    • @TxToolGuy
      @TxToolGuy  Před rokem +2

      very well said, and good point. it does come down to material and quality, throw price out the window and that’s what you’re left with. The chinese sockets aren’t there with the quality, and i also just recently got some cornwell blue power (taiwan made) and compared them to my USA made cornwell and there are differences in the finish and quality no doubt. but like you said, they make them to customer standards so the thickness is there

  • @AdHocAtom

    I love my Mixpower sockets, they're a great company to deal with and they hold up fine for most people. If you're feeding yourself with your tools, don't skimp but for most they're great. I had my 19mm that I beat on so hard last week I was trying to break it and couldn't. Something to keep in mind, my chrome sockets are Tekton, my ratchets are all Token, allens Bondhus, screw drivers Vessel, wrenches Jaeger, anything relating to wires or pliers is Knipex. The point being, I buy based on use, value, quality, customer support and so on.

  • @nickshowsstuff435

    I use tekton but my dad professionally uses harbor freight and he has for years never broken one he has wore a few out but he literally just uses 2 or 3 sizes in his field of work. Some of his guys are using his tools so he just wanted two 9/16 I ordered them for him from tekton since he didn’t need a whole HF set and also because I told him he’s a professional he should step up some of the tools he uses just ball busting so now he’s putting the tekton through the ringer. He really likes them since they’re easier to see markings and the sockets have a full tapper on the deeps to fit in tight spots. He wasn’t using the “pro” set he was using the the normal Pittsburg but strictly the made in Taiwan version they usually have both on the shelf at the same time. The main land Chinese ones are trash even the employees at HF say not to get them.

    • @Volksoner619
      @Volksoner619 Před rokem

      I don’t know why Pittsburgh gets so much hate. Their impact sockets are pretty good. Over the course of about 15 years I only broke a handful of sockets. HF was right down the street from my work so the few times I needed a replacement it was usually handled same day. And they’re lifetime warranty. I had to replace more lost or stolen sockets than broken ones. But a full set of sockets from HF was less than a single from snappy.

      Tekton makes some quality stuff. That’s what I mostly use at work now just because of the no skip sizing. Tekton and Capri are helping me put money into my kids savings instead of the tool pimps pockets.

    Great vid 💯 very interesting to see the usage differences between the brands, almost seems like the capris have done the best so far, I’d almost say based on your vid is to build a diversified set, like common sizes a certain brand mixed with possibly cheaper brands especially for those starting out, but even then you could just buy a whole set of capris and be done as well, wish they did make some swivels though. Swivels are a hard one as well though, I’ve got lower end to sunex and the sunex and grey pneumatic have been great as well, I think with the swivels it also depends on the impact if you’re using a high torque impact those lower end brands won’t likely take it, even the mid grade brands, I’ve had Capri swivel joints bust up on me before but I was using the hell out of it with a pin design. But then with a tool truck brands it’s just out of reach in terms of cost for some. So hopefully the market will introduce some better options in the future. Definitely do one on chromes road bro

      i have some sunex swivels that have held up nicely! i love the snap-on impacts, but they’re just soft

      @MidwestToolReview Před rokem +1

      @@TxToolGuy and they rust before you get them out of the package…lol. They’re the softness of any impact brand I’ve used, next to Mac. I know impact are designed to be more dense, but when I compare GP or Sunex, they are common steel and perform just as well without gross deformation after simple use…

    I agree with your thoughts on the quality of sockets you spend money on. My father always said buy the best tools you can afford, because you don't want to keep buying them over and over. I'm not a professional tech, but I always buy the best tools I can. What's the best spark plug socket for 5.7 Toyota Tundra? Thank you for the videos, I enjoy all your content sir.

      thanks for the support! and i agree with your statement, buy the best you can afford. as far as tundras go, i use a magnetic snap-on 5/8” spark plug socket with a swivel on a locking extension

    Snap On is my preferred impact socket. they are softer than many but hold up well. I never broke a Snapon impact socket other than impact swivels. I have been using SnapOn impact sockets for over 25 years. Macs are pretty good also but I feel SnapOns bite better Koken everything they make is nice. Love there nut-grip sockets

    • @TxToolGuy
      @TxToolGuy  Před rokem

      the nut grip is spectacular! but yeah snap-on is good just soft. i’m in automotive so don’t see much heavy duty stuff which is why i prefer the MAC USA to the snap-on

      I like the softness of Cornwell and Snap On. They seem to transfer more torque to fasteners than the harder impact sockets. Just my experience.

      If you want longer lasting impacts that dont wallow out the drive end or socket end, try CR-V ones instead of CR-M. Ive noticed a big difference. SnapOn impacts are CR-M and they dont last long at all.

      @user-rr4hr7bz7n Před rokem

      I’ve had the Milwaukee sockets for about a year yeah they’re made in china and that sucks to say that BUT they are made to Milwaukee specs and for a socket like that they’ve treated me well and I use them every day. Went with milwaukee because when I started looking for sockets we had no tool truck at all and I got “deals for them” at the time I know they’ve went up in price but at the time I think I spent 150 before tax on the 29pc 1/2 impact socket set which TO ME didn’t seem terrible
