For the record, the article "a" is used when followed by a noun with a consonant SOUND, not a consonant (i.e. a eulogy, a eucalyptus tree), while "an" precedes a noun with a vowel SOUND, not necessarily a vowel (i.e. "I have an MA" or "The bus was an hour late.")
While we didn't want to overly complicate the beginner-level video, we acknowledged that and pointed out some common exceptions in this short: czcams.com/users/shortslC9UsaCV-20?feature=share

This is a great video to introduce articles to my ESL students. Thanks!
We're so happy to hear that!
Very nice teaching 😊
Thank you! 🙂
Thank you! I forgot when I need to write an article.
We're glad this video could help remind you!
I love this channel and use it often for my students. I do wish that for the word "a", the schwa sound had been used consistently for my beginner students.
Thanks for the feedback. We used to use a professional studio to record our older video content, and the voice actors were not English teachers. Now we use in-house talent who are all former English teachers, so they would've caught that. Apologies to your students for any confusion! We're glad to hear you usually enjoy our videos.
What’s the schwa sound?
@@Phymacss Any unstressed vowel sound (when speaking quickly) is called a schwa. It's represented by this symbol in the International Phonetic Alphabet: /ə/. We will post our pronunciation video on the schwa sound early this year in this playlist: czcams.com/play/PL0MvnNQjMzmaj3OyBD766o70tB5OsiwHp.html

1:46 or also when it sounds like a vowel! For example, “an hour”. “H” is not a vowel but in this word it sounds like the vowel “a”!
You got it! We didn't want to mention too many exceptions to the general rule in this beginner-level video, but we made a Short that explains some of these exceptions: czcams.com/users/shortslC9UsaCV-20?si=4HXuN5_LvQCq7RH0
Thank you for the video😊 I have no idea about a sentence in role-playing games.
Examples:
A: Restores your HP after battle.
B: Restores your HP after a battle.
C: Restores your HP after the battle.
What's the difference between A, B and C?
Choice A is technically incorrect, but some people drop the article when space is limited since the meaning is still clear (e.g., in news headlines). Choice B means there are two or more battles in the game. Choice C means there is only one battle in the game. Since RPGs usually have many battles and the item usually restores your health points after any of those battles, B would be the best choice.
@@elliiI appreciate your detailed explanations! I now understand more about articles!

Thank you sir for your useful video 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
You're very welcome!
sir, I want to ask why uniform they use A uniform? I thought the first word is U we should use an instead of a because it's a vowel. even the sound as U
Great question! Some words that start with the letter U are pronounced with a consonant sound and not a vowel sound. The first syllable in "uniform" has the "y" sound (the same sound as in the word "you") and not a vowel sound. So we say "a uniform" but "an umbrella" ("umbrella" doesn't start with the "y" sound). See more examples in our short: czcams.com/users/shortslC9UsaCV-20?si=YbQ9pTRSQ7kmM9D4
Yumbrella😂

you use an when the noun has a vowel sound and a when the noun has a consonant sound
You got it, Manuela! Sounds like you wouldn't be confused by "an hour" or "a university." 💪
Thanks
The bank is opened( Passive Voice).
Great example of an article! "The bank" is correct. But "is opened" is incorrect. We don't usually use the passive voice for a building or business when it opens or closes. For that, the active voice is best. E.g., The bank opens at 9. The bank closes at 5. For a less common verb like "unlocked," you could use the passive voice. E.g., The bank doors are unlocked (by someone) at 8:50 am. Hope that helps!
I love it ! ! !
We're happy to hear that!

Do you want a cookie?
My sister likes animals.
The flowers are white.
Thank you bro
You're welcome, Jessica!
Why do you use "the" in plurar. " The eggs" "The cats". I dont understand that part. But, It was a good video anyways.🙏🏽
For general cases, we use "a/an" for singular nouns and no article for plural nouns. Think of this as nouns you can't see. E.g., I want a new jacket. / He wants new shoes. For specific cases, we use "the" for singular and plural nouns. Think of this as nouns you can see. E.g., I want the jacket that you have. / He wants the shoes that you have. Hope that helps!
can we say an island ?
You sure can. We use "an" before more general, singular nouns that begin with a vowel. Some exceptions are when "u" is pronounced with a "y" sound. This short might help: czcams.com/video/lC9UsaCV-20/video.htmlsi=gPQ6ilTuufEP6KtV

Could you please send me this powerpoint please
We don't have powerpoints available, but you (or your teacher) can subscriber to ellii.com to access the PDF and digital formats for this lesson.
Great video, but tbh I have no idea why does something like articles even exists.
It's a good question, isn't it? They help define the noun, but every language varies. Some languages have no articles, and some have even more than English (masculin and feminine articles too)!
I like this video❤
Thanks for watching! ❤️

Good as heaven
Thank so much!
I appreciate it, man❤
It can be sir also... don't change the gender of it 😂
But explained nicely
For example The sun is beautiful tonight? I Don't get it. Why not the moon is beutiful tonight
Hi! It would be natural to say "The sunset is beautiful tonight" or "The moon is beautiful tonight," but not "The sun is beautiful tonight."
So good
Thanks!
