    Hi! This is extremely helpful. I have two of these installed in my house with heat pump 2 stage outdoor units that are communicating capable but wired up legacy based on what I can tell. I'd prefer they were communicating. For the Communicating wires are we able to utilize the existing legacy wires from the air handler to the heat pump or do they have to be shielded/special wires?
    Thanks!

    • @johnstonecg
      @johnstonecg  Před rokem +2

      Standard 18 solid will be fine, non shielding is not an issue. Reuse the wires you have use only connections on 1 and 2 (do not use R and C). To confirm good comm signal measure from C to 1 and then C to 2, subtract them, difference should be over .5VDC, if not we can talk termination switches.

    Good morning,
    I have GMVC800805CNAD pair with non communicating out door unit and I set at 4 tons with 1600 cfm. What happen if the G wire is connected from T-stat to the AHU when in cooling mode? Does the AHU put out the 1600 cfm? Thank you.

      @johnstonecg  Před 2 lety

      24volts on the G wire would run cont fan. FSd setting is a percentage of full speed so 50% would be about 1100CFM. The 24 volt on Y would run off settings on ton, 400cfm for ton so if you set ton to 4.0 you will get your 1600. Cooling or HP have priority at the control side so no mater what the G (FSd) is set for the blower runs on the Y (ton).

      Does the display show FAn? The zone control would energize fan with 24volts on the G terminal and the display would change from idL to FAn. If it does not send us model of zone panel to help you out. If board shows FAn folowed by the A with cfm the fan should operate or the board has no output.

    The installation manual doesn't say anything about the thermostat requirements but my understanding is that for a communicating Goodman HVAC unit the thermostat must also be communicating and a legacy/conventional thermostat will not work on it especially if the target HVAC system is a multi-stage system. On the same line of thought is it true that RUUD's ECONet type of a communicating system especially a two-stage type will need compatible thermostat and a conventional thermostat will not work on it.

    • @johnstonecg
      @johnstonecg  Před 2 lety +3

      All comfort bridge (bluetooth) Goodman Units require only a conventional thermostat to run all equipment form ac to heat pump to gas to inverters. All that is needed is a W signal for heat and a Y for cool. Do not use a communicating thermostat with a comfort bridge furnace.

    • @johnstonecg
      @johnstonecg  Před 7 měsíci +1

      It could possibly be the anti cold air fan delay. If you have a BVA20 AHU it cycles the blower off with low temp on the hot gas line. The board should have 3 blinks at his time. Turn SW6-3 to off on the BVA20 to disable that feature. You will have blower come on right away with call and may feel some cold air. at start of cycle.

      If you have a heat pump thermostat (it will have an emergency heat settings) the settings would be in the thermostat. If your running a standard 1h1c thermostat (Goodman can run the heat pump with the W) you would need to set the CFS to 5. If it is at 5 then you can try changes to target (tgt) to 40 and over target threshold (ott) from 10 to 20. If you would like help with the thermostat just let us know the model.

      @johnstonecg  Před rokem +1

      @@jesssseg Yes so the upstages from stage 1 to 2 to back up are controlled by the algorithm in the board and the adjustments are made in the CFS settings. If you have the app on your phone the settings are a lot easier to adjust than push button but either will do. You can use the general setting or customize settings. just set your target to a longer time and the unit will not upstage as quick (gives low speed more time to satisfy thermostat). I have a communicating Furnace Goodman GMVC960803BN that is hooked to a communicating outdoor condenser Goodman GSXC180601BA. The condenser didn't come with the control transformer. I used my building pre-wired legacy two conductor cable to connect terminal 1 of the mainboard with 1 on condenser and the same with terminal 2. Right now R and C are not connected. I updated the board using coolcloud app, power cycled, turned back on and set up the thermostat to cool. Everything looks good except that the condenser fan is not on meaning the thermostat command is not fullfilled by the outdoor unit. The manual also says that the communicating unit will need a transformer powered locally via 240volts. Do I need the transformer for my condensing unit? Why then Goodman ships it incomplete without a transformer? may be saving few dollars assuming it will be a new installation where the condensing unit control cable coming from the main board will be four conductor.

      Anything in the last 4 years requires no connection to the R and C. If the outdoor unit has a display lit the R and C is not needed. In your app it should see the model and will have a test mode for communicating units (test shows up on all units but only operates the communicating units). If you don't see the outdoor unit in the app measure between 1 and 2 DC volts. You need around .6VDC. If you do not have .6 power outdoor unit off, find TERM switch's 1 and 2 and move them to off. power up and retest voltage (1 and 2 are polarity sensitive).
