The door to your coop looks like the door to my greenhouse, same layout.

If your broody hen was in with roosters recently before you picked her up and laid the other 2 eggs when she started sitting on her nest in your new coop, they very well could be fertilized :) Birds retain sperm in a different way than mammals, some birds retain it longer than others, even several weeks

Oh wow, that’s good to know! I really hope they are fertilized 😊

Asking kindly, so I hope it comes across as polite as I mean it- Did you get the chickens because of the reported food shortages that are coming and may hit smaller countries the hardest? Are you doing any other food prepping or planning and if so would you share? I am praying it won’t come to be but people are talking about it a lot so I do worry for friends far away. Much love and respect!

Hi! Your comment came across very sweet. I’ve always wanted chickens so I would have gotten them no matter what. But I am watching the food shortage situation. I am very grateful to live in a place where I can grow produce all year round. We’ve been canning the surplus of what we grow, but that’s about it at this point 😊

Are there Predators of the chickens in SJDS? I lost four chickens to coyotes last month (Washington State). We had always let them roam the lawns to forage for bugs (but now they are stuck in the chicken run). I am not sure we will have a coop in Nica at our home we are having built.

My cuidador said there are predators of chickens here, but I’m not sure which animal is the predator. He was mainly concerned about predators at night. I do want to let my chickens out to forage, but I’m a little nervous they won’t come back

There are opossums all over Nicaragua, they are called "zorro cola pelada", most likely in SJDS you can find them. Unfortunately people kill them because they love chickens lol, not knowing how important they are.

@@200215252d people eat them that's mostly why they kill them

I haven’t yet, but I plan to. I’m just nervous that they won’t come back lol. But doing a lot of reading about it
