  • On this episode of our Journey on Pico Island, we share our experience with you on buying our land in Portugal and why we chose Pico Island to develop our Tourism Business.
We purchased oceanfront land on the coast of Pico Island Azores 8 years ago. We were lucky enough to find this amazing property located in the seaside vineyard village of Sao Mateus.
Learn how we found and bought the land. We also share some of the required procedures and costs. We explain why we feel that the land and the area of the island is perfect for our Tourism Business.
We take you for a quick drive and hike around the village of Sao Mateus. We also touch why we feel about Tourism on Pico, Azores and Portugal.
We hope you enjoy this episode.
Please feel free to like, subscribe and share.

I'm fascinated and congratulations to you both! I have two questions, please:
    1) Is solar an option on Pico?
    2) I have had multiple nightmare experiences in my life in bringing anything new or "different" to Zoning officials. They basically want you to do what has always been done, don't make waves and just add to the tax base. It's not about serving you the property owner, but using your property to generate money through "fees" and ever more taxes for the municipality. Honestly, how is it dealing with the entrenched governmental bodies when you are an expatriate and don't have family connection??? I love glamping (I think of Teddy Roosevelt) and hope to one day be a guest on your property! Best!

Hey guys I wandered in looking for cool volcano videos and became fascinated with what life would be like there in modern times. From looking around in Google Earth is seems almost no one has rooftop solar which seems odd. I've heard the Internet is very good there because the islands are on a undersea cable. And I checked for you, according to the Smithsonian volcano database, Pico has been asleep for a very, very long time. So sleep well in your island paradise and best wishes to you on your journey in the Azores :-)

Thanks Andrew; appreciate the comment. I'm glad you liked the video. I think buying property in the Azores is a great investment; especially if you love the area. Why Pico? It's not easy to answer with just a few words. The fact that I was born on the island, spent a lot of time hear and have family make up some of the reasons.
From an investment point of view; Pico is considered the Tourism growth island of the future. This growth is controlled; no mass Tourism. Pico is the 2nd largest; small population, affordable Real Estate and well located between Faial and Sao Jorge (these 3 are known as the triangle islands).
I believe the 9 islands have something to offer and all are expected to increase in overall Tourism in the near future. I also believe that Terceira has amazing potential and Tourism is in the rise; also controlled. I see more 2 center packages involving Terceira and Pico. Sao Miguel is saturated and unfortunately having some mass tourism problems; too many high rise hotels,, cruise ships etc. I can go on for ages; hopefully this helps. In the covid19 dust clears, there will be a controlled boom here in the Azores. This is just my honest thoughts and opinion; hopefully it helps. Go for it Andrew! Cheers!
