" Will you be introducing your puppy to a new dog? Which tip did you find most helpful?
I currently have 3 male dogs: 14 y/o cocker, 14 y/o dachshund and 7 y/o minpin. Around Oct 25/2022, we will be adding 8-wk old female minpin. I am planning to introduce them one at a time after I exercise them. I am not sure though if I will be able to exercise the puppy since I will be driving from the breeder straight home. The pup will be in a separate area and they will be able to sniff each other through the baby gates. My 14 y/o cocker is blind and mostly lying on his favorite day-bed so I will just lift her to him and let him sniff her. He is very laid back. The second one to introduce will be the dachshund, he is also very mild and loving, but I will introduce them in the separated area. The third one will be the minpin - he is a handful, very vocal, and does not get along with any other dogs, only his two brothers. He (and my other dogs) got attacked by other dogs (irresponsible owners with dogs off leash!) in our neighbourhood on numerous occasions when he was a wee pup and it created a lifelong fear of other dogs, plus the breed is known not to be very friendly with other dogs anyway. I will introduce him to the new addition through the gate. We will see how it goes. I plan to bring the puppy home in the morning so they have the whole day to get them to know each other. All my 3 current dogs sleep in my bed. I plan to have my new pup with me in the bed, as well. When I got my male minpin as 8wk old puppy, the other two dogs who were 7 y/o at that time did not have any problem with him at all. I introduced them all together in the house (no separate area) and they took to each other very fast. He slept with us in the bed from day 1, I had him close to my body to know when he needed to go out to pee. It worked out great. I potty trained him very fast. I am hoping it will be the same with the new pup. Do you have any suggestions? I would really appreciate if you could share them with me.

We have a 20 month old Wheaten Terrier and are getting a new Wheaten puppy this month. We made the decide because our current wheaten loves to play with other dogs! I have completed many training courses with my 20 month old, hoping the new pup will listen to me and see me as his pack leader once he has bonded with our older dog

I have a 13 year old dog and about to get an 8 week old pup in 2 weeks. My sister has a 12 week old pup and I was able to see how he interacts with the puppy and he was very tolerant with the puppy. He definitely had to "put the pup in his place" a few times vocally and he did revert once and had an accident...but I am glad to see that this can happen and it wasn't too strange.

I have a 13 year old Staffie who is spoiled rotten and very attached to me and in a few weeks I’ll be getting a fabulous 7 week old Golden Retriever puppy. Two completely different dogs in every way. I am very nervous about the introduction but have found your video informative and will certainly try to implement all your suggestions. Fingers crossed.
We are happy it was helpful. Just take it really slow. Those two breeds and ages won't have a lot in common. You'll want to make it as pleasant as possible for both of them! If you need help, just let us know!
How did it go? I have a 1.5 yr old Staffy and he is the same way. Very spoiled and loves his momma. We have 3 (human) girls who he loves to play with and is very sweet to our youngest (puts up with a lot from her 😆) but he is very stand offish from other dogs yet seems to be very interested in puppies. (I tried to get him socialized but other dogs were usually the problem so he doesn’t have good experiences with older dogs) but again, seems to really like younger smaller pups. We are bringing a 10month old female mini Aussie this Friday. Part of me is nervous l, but the other part of my is excited. I’m curious to know how things are going for you.

This was great! I have 3 Corgis (12, 7 & 6). About to bring a new corgi puppy next week. It will be 8 weeks old, but will be a special needs dog because it apparently has hydrocephalus (fluid on the brain). I usually do introductions on neutral grounds. Husband won’t be available, I may seek out a neighbor to help because I’ve always had success bringing a new dog in that way.

My puppy keeps chasing after the older one and grabbing hold of his ear or tail hair! How should I tell him off? I’m doing the 30 days course and loving week 1 so far
Our older dog loves to play with other dogs . We knew it would ultimately be okay. But he was so enthusiastic the puppy actually screamed bloody murder. I had to pick her up, then we could allow them to sniff, definitely watch the car video and let them be separated!!! Now the little one is chasing the older one around the house (tag). We supervise closely and when they both get riled up too much we put them in their own “corners”. -puppy pen and crates
I have a small terrier mix that is a bit timid with some dogs, others he will acknowledge and others he wants nothing to do with. Seems to prefer slow approaches or dogs that don't care much of his presence. He has never been playful much. Seems scared of balls. I think he may have been mis-treated. I rescued him. I think he is between 8-10. I'm getting a Havanese near 3 mos. old puppy. Hoping that my older dog will be okay.
@@pl3824 How did it go? My terrier X sounds a bit like yours, but she's more dominant than timid with other dogs. We're hoping to adopt a younger dog soon and I'm nervous about how she'll take to her new "brother"...!
@@chantalsweeney2995 So far it's going pretty good. My older dog is toleranting the puppy. He growls/chomps when she gets to playful/nippy to set his boundaries but he never touches her. He stands near and watchful when I'm teaching her commands/
playing. I believe it will work out. Learning to walk two dogs is my challenge!

We have a 1 year pitty and are thinking of getting a new puppy. (Sticking with another female fixed pitty.) She does great with puppies she been around and has never shown aggression towards humans or dogs. (But she protects out large fenced yard for anything that enters!🥴)

My family and I have been working on getting ME an Emotional Support Animal, so we decided a chihuahua is a good fit for me for many reasons. I'm still yet to get him from the breeder. back in November my sister adopted , and it was too fast, a female adult dog (5 years old) who was in a very bad place. We still haven't yet figured her out. she is very nervous, tho she's been opening up to us slowly and she absolutely loves my sister. I don't know how the introduction will go with my puppy and her dog. We already fostered another puppy, but more grown up, ( 1 year old), and it went great. both played and had a good time. My puppy will be living in my room. I am nervous right now, because the female is very scared of other dogs, and we don't know if she could be aggressive.
We have an 11yr & 7yr. We are getting a puppy in a few days. I appreciate the video, and hope this goes well.

Can you please answer me… today is my first day with my new toy poodle puppy. I have a golden retriever that is 1.5 year old. My problem is that my poodle have so much energy that makes him jumps on my dog face, this makes my golden retriever mad. He barks and try to nip my poodle, and im very scared if he will biting or no something worse to my poodle puppy. And second problem is that very time when my poodle puppy run away or even walk away from my golden, my golden go nuts and chases it quite aggressively sometimes, like he chases not as in play but really really chases him. One of the reasons that i think my dog do this it is because me and my golden retriever like to play fetch with a ball which can go to different directions, which might make his instincts turn on when he sees something run away from him. Please answer my question i dont know what to do im scared.
It's very common for older dogs to have a hard time with puppies. Puppies are very mouthy and have a lot of energy! It sounds like it's too soon for these two dogs to be together. It will be important to use a crate and a pen for the puppy to block off access to the older dog for now. With some training, you can teach the puppy how to interact nicely with your golden. This also gives your golden time to get used to the puppy in the house without him invading his space.

I have a 10 year old miniature schnauzer who will be the only animal in the house for the first time in his life for about 6 months. He is very social and we frequently go to dog parks in our area. He is the go to dog for the ones who are shy to bring up their social and confidence levels. I’m interested in seeing how he handles a puppy when we get a second dog

We are getting a 8 week old puppy and we did an introduction with our 3 German Shepards yesterday and 2/3 did great with him. One of ours had a VERY difficult time. He was SCREAMING and howling and jumping up trying to get to him and we are not sure if this was aggressive or not, unsure how to proceed when new pup comes home. Considered a muzzle to let him sniff the puppy without being able to bite him. Also to add none of our dogs have ever shown aggressive behavior.
You might have taken the introduction a little too fast for your resident dog. It sounds like he was very stressed and anxious. I’m worried about the size difference and the german shepherd accidentally playing too hard with a smaller puppy. We have over a year before the puppy arrives. It's not really possible to train him ahead of time but when the two are interacting you should keep a close eye on the play and interrupt it if it's becoming unhealthy for either dog. Most older / bigger dogs know how to "self handicap" in order to play nicely with a younger or small dog. Take a look at this video for some signs to watch for in your bigger dog. I have 2 female 6wk old pups and have to intro to my mom's dogs, only one of which is concerning. We have separate houses about 75ft from each other inside a large fenced yard. My sweet bulldog went to heaven but mom's 2 dogs were good with him. Mega is inclined to hypervigilance especially since my mom had a stroke ( she's mostly ok) .

We have a 3 year old Yorkie-Poo and we have just bought a Yorkie- it’s going to be here on Friday/Saturday. I heard my parents saying they should share a same crate, I’m going to correct them after watching this video lol. How do we make sure the older dog doesn’t have any accidents? And once we finish potty training the
new dog and everything, Is it ok to leave the dogs in kind of an enclosed part of the house, with access to food, water, toys, and their crates. We have a gate that we set up that blocks off the kitchen from the rest of the house. If we train them not to fight each other too hard would it be a bad idea still?
We never recommend leaving them together in the same space when you are gone. We've seen it go very wrong, with no warning! It's best if they are snoozing in their individual crates, waiting calmly for your return.

We have 2 yorky females aged 3 and 4. ..and have recently brought home an 8 week old husky male who you can imagine is extremely playful and bites everything as puppies do. This can become a bit too much for our 4 year old yorky at times and the separation technique after 10 mins is helpful. Unfortunately the 3 year old yorky who is very territorial and very tiny, has not accepted the new puppy. When she sees him she runs away and hides shaking and drooling. She's not happy. She's always been a very scared little dog, scared of most noises things and people. The husky will begin puppy classes in a few weeks but my concern is more the 3 year old yorky and will she ever get over this fear of everything?. Would some sort of training classes help her with her anxieties.... especially accepting the husky pup?.

We have a 9yr old female corgi who’s owner died last year and we took in. She was used to being a one dog household and wasn’t very well trained, not to mention has a lot of health issues. Our adult daughter has a husky puppy male and our dog and he did not do well when meeting so we keep them apart when she’s at our house. Our daughter was recently in a car accident and has had to move back in with us while she recovers, which means we’re on full time puppy duty too. Our dog is consistently aggressive toward the puppy and does not have much tolerance for him. Will any of these pointers work now that they have to live together and we did not introduce them the right way to begin with? I’m worried for the next few months while she recovers. You can use the suggestions in that video even though the dogs are older and have already interacted. Due to their age and previous negative experience, you'll need to take the process very slowly so it's positive for all dogs. i have a year old berneedoodle and am picking up a puppy next week. Kora, my current dog is super social playful and open to other dogs and people. she is still very much a puppy herself, although, is mostly well behaved. i did not use a crate for her. when i had to leave her at home i would block off the kitchen and leave her there. now, she has a run of the house. should i do same with a new pup? leave her in the kitchen and allow Kora everywhere else? i am walkig her off the leash each morning and most nights. i am planning to incorporate my puppy into the walks. that way both dogs will have a space and ability to both play and separate. the issue that may become, is that the new puppy is going to be much larger than Kora who is about 60lbs. Puppy will likely be over 120 when grown. so she will be Kora's size about 4-6m. any pointers would be greately apreciated
We recommend a crate for your puppy. Too much room to move around could prevent her from settling down. Leaving two dogs together, unattended, is also a huge risk. It's fine until it's not fine and we've seen too many situations that suddenly become a huge problem. We also caution you against too much exercise for the puppy right away. Not only is it overstimulating, it could be bad for her growth plates. If you'd like some help with all of these things, we'd love to guide you in a more personalized way. Our dog is a just turned 3 yr old Frenchie (Sam) with no real separation anxiety, he actually has no cares at all really lol. He's not the brightest bulb in the pack if you know what I mean and he has a super sweet disposition. We just got a Parti Yorkie for my 8 yr old daughter. Sam is attached to my wife at the hip and is always has been the spoiled rotten center if attention. Should we keep the puppy mostly away from my wife for awhile when Sam is near or lying in her lap (he stays there while she watches tv or reads)? How can we get Sam to accept that he's no longer my wifes only focus without him hating the puppy? Do it slowly?
Yes, slow is the name of the game here! Make sure that each dog has their own space (the new one having the restricted space and the older dog gets his usual space) and that introductions are slow and positive. Training my pup i adopted from someone who adopted a new pup and their parents didn't even known so I told her when ever I need a puppy sitter or she wanna stop by she can because they already bonded I had to be sure I was introducing them properly

Hi! We have a 2 year old Cavapoo male and would like to get another puppy. We have always had 2 dogs and have thought about it for awhile yet now we have time to add another member to the family. Our 2 year old is a little anxious and occasionally has some resource guarding which we have been working on and he is getting much better. He's very sweet with small dogs yet occasionally does not like bigger dogs and gets upset. I worry about waiting until he's older to introduce a new dog and am thinking this is a better time to add a dog to the family. We are thinking of adding a female of the same breed. Do you have any thoughts?

We have an older dog (beagle cocker spaniel mix) who is 3 and we just got a 7 week old Labrador. Both are males. We keep them separated inside with their own spaces and we take them outside for neutral smell/play time. The older dog after 12 days of trying to get them together in neutral ground still doesn’t seem to like the puppy and when the puppy tries to play the older dog just trots/runs away from him and if the puppy persists then the older dog will growl/snip at the puppy. The older dog is EXTREMELY attached to my girlfriend and is pretty protective over her so he i don’t know gets jealous too I guess if the puppy is getting too much attention from her too, or if the older dog is getting attention and then the puppy comes to her for attention too will growl/snip at him also.... any tips?

Just introduced a 9 year old staffie to his new brother a blue nose. Supervised interaction went well. My older dog onyx too hype. Overstimulated. So the separation will work for these two. Does this calm down overtime. I just need my older dog to ve calm with new pup, so I can relax. Ugghh
This gets better with time but mostly with training. Start with the tips in this video where you let each dog see the other but not interact if one or both is overstimulated. Once they both see the other one and think it's no big deal you can proceed with closer interactions, still taking it slow enough that neither one gets too excited.
I've got two seven month old. Ones a border collie the other a Jack russell. I'm taking in a nine week old soon another border collie worried that my older may be to ruff or not like her.

Unfortunately many humans think that a wagging tail always means happy but it really doesn't. The drooling could also be a sign of stress. Just take it slow and watch body language carefully!

We did everything wrong when introducing a young chihuahua to our 5 year old boxer - but our boxer was wonderful and they became very best friends for many years. 2 years ago, we had to put our boxer down. 🥺Of course, our chihuahua had a pretty significant change in personality after that and glued herself to me. We were surprised that she very quickly showed no interest or tolerance of other dogs after that. We figured she would miss having a dog friend but she doesn’t seem to. She has replaced her dependency or security she had with our boxer onto me, which is a little much at times. She’s avoidant of humans she doesn’t know well and is avoidant and can be snappy toward all dogs of all sizes in all circumstances. Then again, I had no clue how to introduce her to other dogs so I did it totally wrong - I’m sure I shot myself in the foot there. Knowing I’ve done it wrong in the past but desiring to add a boxer to our household, I began researching how to do this the right way to ensure a positive start for both dogs. After watching this I wonder: Do we even bother? Is this a pipe dream and we’ll have to be boxer-less until our chihuahua passes away or is it a possibility to do it right and have a happy two dog home?
It is for sure possible to have a happy two-dog home! Introducing a puppy to a new dog is best handled with some advance planning, and taking it very slow for both canines! Make sure that they have their own space and keep assimilation at both dogs’ pace! When first meeting, both dogs should be on leash and should not meet if they are riled up or lunging towards each other.
You’ll want both dogs to be well-exercised separately before meeting so there isn’t too much pent-up energy when they meet up. We want the dogs to meet on neutral ground, and you’ll want to take it slow and progressively. You might start with a walk on opposite sides of the street to avoid them getting over excited. Then you can let them play in a fenced-in yard, not on leash.

Hi - thanks so much for the video. I just introduced my 1.5y old miniature dachshund to a 10w old pup. My older Dachsie has been amazingly good with all dogs and pups. I think they are getting along good and I think I see when she gets irritated so proactively put them apart, so they play 4-5x 10 min a day. The only thing that scares me a bit is that sometimes (albeit softly so far - but I break them up on time) my older one puts its entire mouth over the younger ones neck, not sure this is just little marking, mother instinct or more the killer instinct. Any thoughts?
Without seeing the other body language signals it's hard to know. It's possible that you'll want to end the play session before this behavior starts. Pay attention to how long they've been playing at that point. Next time, end the session before that time and see if that prevents the behavior. Even if it's soft it's likely that the puppy doesn't love the behavior.

We have a 7 year old Pug named Milo who is super playful and friendly although he does have impulse control issues and is a yapper and this yapping can get quite annoying! I was wondering if I would be able to simultaneously train my pug while also getting a new puppy and introducing it?
Great question. We recommend holding off on getting a puppy until Milo's barking behavior has been worked through. Milo will quickly teach the new puppy to bark and then you'll have 2 dogs barking up a storm and feeding off of each other. We always recommend holding off on adding any additional dogs to a home until the first dog's behavior is exactly what you wanted.

I have a 8 year old pugzu who just ignores my new puppy but when i get the puppy out my 5year old shorkie intently stairs at him and used to drool i dont know what to do to get them on a term where they can play together and be happy. my 7.5 month old puppy and my new 3 month old puppy play bite with open mouths if allowed. We dont allow this- but please tell me any tips you may have. The newer pup is penned and the two of them socialize thru the fence. Face time is limited to sniffs and kisses and stopped when they get frisky. Have not attempted walks due to really cold weather but will soon. Any ideas on the mouthy bitey part that hey both do?
It's great you have them separated! Nice job stopping play when it gets to be too much. You want to make sure their cups are filled outside of one another (training sessions, socialization and exposure to the world - sights, sounds, smells), instinctual outlets (sniffing, digging, shredding, chasing, chewing). You should keep their playing sessions even shorter than what they already are, like stopping them when they get to a 5 or 6 level of excitement, rather than stopping at that 8 or 9.

In 2020 we got two puppies.... litter mates. This past April one of our puppies died due to a Addison crisis. Our surviving puppy is a little less active and has lost weight. We are getting another puppy to give him a playmate. After four months of being by himself and seeming subdued maybe a little depressed. Do you have any other tips on making this transition smoother?

im planning on getting a puppy in the future, but my husky has a pretty big prey drive, im not sure if he will be more gentle with a puppy?
It's hard to know. The best thing to do is to expose your husky to young puppies to see how he does. That will give you a good indicator if getting a puppy for your household is a good plan.

Hello! Not content related but how can you identify which pup is the eldest? Our shih tzu gave birth to two identical pups but the first one is born in breech position. But now we don’t know who is the eldest who born breeched since they are both 4 weeks old and has the same face and pure white color. I want to keep the breech one since it’s the eldest but how I would I know which one? Hope you can notice me. Thanks in advance!💕

Just found your channel cause I was trying figure out can I let my new pup play with my pup I had for like a month n a half he is 5 months and had him a month n a half and we just got another pup Friday he is 6 weeks and just got his shots and dewormed pill Friday …before we even temp to bring him in the house I brought the shots the same day I got him Friday so I was asking can I allow my 6 week old pup to walk around the house in be in other area my 5 month old been and they got 2 different cages I got my 5 month old one down stairs and the 6 week old pup in my room
N his cage I don’t let the 6 week old one go down stairs and tbh the 5 month old one never been up stairs or no where in none of these rooms he ain’t learned to come down the steps yet so he still scared so we just think it’s best for him to only be out up stairs but we want him to come down so we don’t always have to play with one first then play with the other one after
It's best to allow all the dogs to get used to each other slowly. Even if they can't see each other, they know the other ones are there! Take the introduction process very slowly!
I currently have 3 male dogs: 14 y/o cocker, 14 y/o dachshund and 7 y/o minpin. Around Oct 25/2022, we will be adding 8-wk old female minpin. I am planning to introduce them one at a time after I exercise them. I am not sure though if I will be able to exercise the puppy since I will be driving from the breeder straight home. The pup will be in a separate area and they will be able to sniff each other through the baby gates. My 14 y/o cocker is blind and mostly lying on his favorite day-bed so I will just lift her to him and let him sniff her. He is very laid back. The second one to introduce will be the dachshund, he is also very mild and loving, but I will introduce them in the separated area. The third one will be the minpin - he is a handful, very vocal, and does not get along with any other dogs, only his two brothers. He (and my other dogs) got attacked by other dogs (irresponsible owners with dogs off leash!) in our neighbourhood on numerous occasions when he was a wee pup and it created a lifelong fear of other dogs, plus the breed is known not to be very friendly with other dogs anyway. I will introduce him to the new addition through the gate. We will see how it goes. I plan to bring the puppy home in the morning so they have the whole day to get them to know each other. All my 3 current dogs sleep in my bed. I plan to have my new pup with me in the bed, as well. When I got my male minpin as 8wk old puppy, the other two dogs who were 7 y/o at that time did not have any problem with him at all. I introduced them all together in the house (no separate area) and they took to each other very fast. He slept with us in the bed from day 1, I had him close to my body to know when he needed to go out to pee. It worked out great. I potty trained him very fast. I am hoping it will be the same with the new pup. Do you have any suggestions? I would really appreciate if you could share them with me.

My Pomeranian Tiger is a small older dog and our not so new but new puppy and Lassie is now a big puppy she's a Australian Shepherd mix with a Husky (I still thinks she's just a Australian Shepherd) but my small dog used to be scared of her because she was so new to the house. Now Tiger is scared of her and Lassie would try to chase her in the house and Lassie tries to play with her but Tiger is so scared of her that she would growl or snap at her (used too) and my parents was always worried that Tiger would "Kill" Lassie because she would snap or bite at her. I would explain that it's normal. Lassie was brought home at 6 weeks old and things were fine but after she got a little bigger things went downhill, now Lassie digs in the yard and jumps around and jumps on you and tries to bite while jumping when playing and me and my Grandma don't know what to do about it.

Do you have any advice on introducing a big dog to small dogs ??? Me & my mom is thinking about bringing this 8months pit/bully into our home but we already have to small old ( female ) dogs , & we dnt want anything to go wrong!!
We first have to ask if the 8 month old dog is good around other dogs and what about the small dogs... are they used to other dogs or even bigger dogs. I need help!!😭 I have a 7-8 year old female German shepherd ( her name is Winter ), she does not get along well with other dogs (except my other 8 year old Chihuahua) and I just got a puppy about four days ago and she is 8 weeks old (her name is Mocha).. I do have her in a crate, making sure she doesn’t invade Winters space. My problem is, is Winter aggressively barks at her, even when Mocha isn’t doing anything. When I have them together, I hold mocha in my arms or keep her at a safe distance from Winter. ( I’m to afraid to have Winter hurt her ..)
I’m just really worried, and afraid that Winter is never going to get along with mocha :(

Not all dogs love other dogs. It's possible that you'll have to do the "crate and rotate" protocol with Mocha and Winter. You can use the techniques suggested in this video but you'll have to take it very very slowly for Winter, and there's no guarantee. we got 3 puppies in july and i have a 10 year old dog, the reason we got them was because the older dogs sister just passed so we thought it would make him happier by having some friends. but the older dog was never socialized and was very mad that we got the puppies and we have tried to introduce them by putting a muzzle on him and letting the puppies out because he has been very aggressive and mad about it, we have tried many times to introduce them but he still doesn’t understand and we have no idea how else to do it safely. we kind of knew that maybe this wouldn’t be the best but are dog was very depressed and sad since his sister was put down so we were a bit blinded by her loss and now we are dealing with the consequences. we are already attached to the puppies so there is no giving them up now i just don’t know what other options we have at this point. do you know what we should do to help my older dog get along with the puppies?
Older dogs don't have a lot of common interests with puppies, and puppies have a play style that is often very rambunctious and mouthy. At this time based on what you've said about the older dog, it would be best to keep them entirely separate so the older dog doesn't continue to experience added stress. As the puppies grow and you can introduce one at a time, like we show in this video, the older dog might tolerate them more.
My boyfriend and i are gonna be moving in together. He has a 5 year old dog that knows the basics, but isnt too disciplined. Im having a pup which is gonna be trained to be close to a working dog. Will his dog take away from my pups progress?
You may need to work on managing the environment to keep them separate at feeding and training times. You puppy's progress is less about the other dog, and more about the time you are willing to put in to training your puppy separately. I have an almost 9 month old Pitbull mix and recently unexpectedly rescued an approximately 9 month old collie or Shetland sheepdog. My Pitbull was playing around with him yesterday and now today wanted nothing to do with him and growled a few times. What would cause a sudden change?
Dogs can definitely change their minds or have days when they are less interested in play. It's important to recognize the signs that the dog is stress or uninterested and intervene right away. It's possible that the two dogs had an introduction that went too fast, and they need a much slower integration into the same household.

Thank you Michele, Wish I had seen this video sooner. My sister in Law is going to puppy sit Sparky at the end of Sept for 2 days. She has 2 adult large breed dogs, who are really good dogs. I went to her house the other day to introduce Sparky to her dogs. Wanted to see how they would react to one another. My sister in law told me to take sparky off the leash that he would be ok. At first it was all fun and games. Sparky going after the older lab and the lab was just ignoring him. We were all in the kitchen watching them. At one point they disappeared. Older lab went into his crate and apparently Sparky followed him in. Next thing Sparky was howling, screaming it was awful! I ran and picked him up. I was so upset and crying, cause the noise that sparky was making, I was sure something was broken. Took him about 5 minutes to stop crying and calm down. There was no blood anywhere. I took him outside and put him on the ground to see if he could walk. He was fine, Thank God!!!!! I don’t know why he cried and howled so loud for so long. I’m still looking to see where he was hurt, but can’t find anything. Now I don’t know that I want to let her puppy sit for me. This was a really scary bad experience. Took me all day to calm my self down. I just wanted to cry. I’m thinking maybe his paw got caught in the crate.

My 4-year-old Shih Tzu is staying in the back most of the time and when she comes out to see the puppy she runs back while being chased.

At around 5:45 she mentions two things I couldn’t understand : “give them a frozen filled kong (?) or a westpaw tackle (?)”’to all them down. What did she say???
A Kong is a rubber toy that you can fill with treats or yogurt or a dog safe food, then freeze it. Then the dog licks it to get the good stuff out. It's a great way to have a cool down or decompression activity. There's a similar toy called a West Paw Toppl that you can do the same thing with. It's good of you to think ahead on this. Dogs don't generalize so even if the dog is ok with the cats, it doesn't mean he'll be OK with the puppy. But following the advice in this video will help you. Just take it nice and slow and make sure both dogs feel positive about the interaction!
