you mean 6 years
Well when jimmy got his bar back it was late 04, and theres a timeskip that says we go 7 years in the future, so, i believe the nippy arc takes place in late 2011 to early 2012
Its as if the transition is from Saul's colorful life to Gene's monotone B&W.
is that so

You know you’ve made a great series when even the opening that’s 14 seconds long has a lore to it.
real
Towards the end it almost seems like whoever was watching has reached the end of the tape and yet is still desperately pressing Play to keep it moving, and the machine can only manage barely a second of garbled footage.
It's pretty much an interpretation of Gene reliving his moments as Saul. But for the final moments of the tape, it has to be Saul trying to keep moving but Jimmy stops it from happening.
is this meta humor from vince?
It's like Gene wants to go back in time when he was either being Jimmy who was still struggling to be the lawyer to impress Chuck or being Saul who responsible for the top of his career. Gene wants to build his own time machine by rewatching his pasts.
This, and it tells the story of Gene playing the tapes nightly to try and feel something like the past and the VHS tape is deteriorating due to repeated playback.
Serious lore
I like how in season 6 the openings gradually turn into an analog horror intro

Thanks so much for editing this all together. It provides such beautiful perspective on this element of the show. Gene was watching these tapes every night longing for the life he had as Saul, and each time he ran through the VHS it became more worn down and started losing color. The tapes themselves were becoming more and more like his bleak, black and white world each day. And then the fact that the last four episodes go to record something new over the old openings is just a delicious little tidbit reflecting what's going on in the show. Gene wants the color back in his life so much, but it's never coming back after the bad choice road he put himself on. Heartbreaking!

I love that you can see just a flash of Kim waiting at the airport at the very end of the episode 12 intro, and the prison dough mixer on episode 13, foreshadowing Jimmy's ultimate fate.
You can also see a crossroads in the same spot for Episode 11, foreshadowing Jimmy’s decision to go back to his life of crime.

I really like how the intro song just cuts out right at the end, like the tape ended or something. There's something unnerving about it in a way I can't really define.
Everything about these intros is kind of unnerving. Even the events before the deteriorating are off putting. Almost like they're showing the events of what happened during Saul's last days in Albuquerque (the forgotten ties in the dessert, the unused machines, the fallen cup).
@@olofacosta3192 : I also can't believe that the tarantula is _not_ also meant to evoke the murder of Drew Sharp, which was a crime Walter White never intended to commit, but that loss of innocent life was an inevitable and completely foreseeable result of his choice to participate in the drug trade. Saul's decisions also led to the deaths of innocent and wholly uninvolved people, even though he never killed (personally or at his order) anyone at all.
@@johndecker3120It's most likely not a coincidence. Because that was a big plot point in BB season 5. I picked up on it immediately when I was first watching the show in season 1 and let out an audible "oh shit" when I saw the tarantula.

Yeah same I was wondering if they weee just gonna reuse the intros of the first 3 episodes or make new ones on episode 10 I was so shocked when it stopped it showed Better Call Saul was over as we know it
These intros are great, I really love how it gets distorted because the tape is degrading. I think they missed an opportunity though, for the last episode they could have made it so degraded that no picture shows at all, or it just says “Cannot read tape” or something like that

Saul got The Caretaker treatment
Man this is why I love Vince’s work, always paying attention to every little detail. Even the few seconds of an intro gets an amazing amount of care placed into it and the payoff of his work is always a marvel to watch unfold. Bravo Vince, I can’t wait to see what you do next, even if it has nothing to do with the masterclass of a universe that is breaking bad.
Peter Gould deserves credit too, he did more on bcs than Vince Gilligan.
Honestly going back and seeing season 1 intros now is the creepiest part. I'm expecting the distortion at this point
Its neat that the 10 episodes of season 6 are mostly fine, once it reaches past the standard 10 episodes its mostly garbled brokenness
The theme song was always welcoming. By the end when it’s distorted and finally gone, it’s like “shit got serious.”
one of the best shows ever. i am lucky to see this live.
Sometime in season 2 a rift in the time/space continuum formed that got progressively worse until the final few episodes of season 6 when the universe became completely devoid of color

from the colorful season 1 intros , to the creepy/depressing season 6 intros
Season 6 Intro, and especially the bluescreen parts are really foreboding and fill you with dread for what's coming.
I like how there's a brief frame in every Season Six intro of the scene but without any editing whatsoever. It happens at some point after the tape skips an episode. Like in some frame at 0:07, you can almost see the full statue of liberty. I never noticed this while watching the show somehow.
Who the hell would notice that at first lol
Thanks for making this. Such a cool little detail.
The day after episode 13 aired I went onto Google and saw an article with the clickbait “What to expect from BCS season 7”. They got me. I clicked.
I loved how some of the intro pictures felt like the scars saul left on the world. Like the tie in the desert, or the card in some random guys sink.
When I found out season 6 had 13 episodes, the thing I had most hype for was the opening of the last 3 episodes
I never knew each intro went with a specific episode number each season.
I thought they were totally random!! 🤣

Never skip the intro!!
I love how the quality of each intro kinda makes it look like you're watching one of Saul/Jimmy's shitty ads on TV
His ads were gold, wdym
I hate how much it already turns into black and white in season 2, you can see it's just about a big destruction, and it already started before you even realised it.
This wasnt a show, it was an experience
I didn’t notice the flickering and distortion until season 6 💀
The dough mixer at the very end of the intro in S6 Ep13 was actually the one where Jimmy bakes bread in prison. So it was actually a preview, but everyone would associate it with the Cinnabon mixer... or like me, missed that brief shot entirely
yep
Because it’s not braking bad! It’s baking bread!
This gives me the same feeling of everywhere at the end of time.
I feel the same way. Its pretty unsettling.
When an intro says more than an entire season of any actual series
This might be some major Zoomer energy coming from me, but I didn’t notice the color fading as the series went on, because Jimmy is watching the tape over and over again, wearing it out. I kind of forgot that VHS tapes wear out the more you watch them. Weird to think about, but crazy attention to details!!
the way that the intro becomes more and more cursed really shows where the shows going.
the last season fucking simplified the logo. I love it
Season 6 intro transit from damaged beyond recognition to passing the point of any possible repair
I love how the intros get more and more glitched just like Jimmy's morality getting lower and lower
This will also age like fine wine, just like breaking bad
So amazing seeing these titles change as time goes on. Saul will live on.
People come to watch the distortion
I listen to Saul's beautiful chimes
I just like that they used the urinal intro for "Fun and Games" The first scene we ever get of Jimmy McGill is him practicing his defense in front of the urinals in the first ep. Since this is the episode where he completes his fall to Saul Goodman, I just think it's a nice coincidence that was the intro used.
Would you believe me that I started watching Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad all because the intro to Better Call Saul was in my recommendation for no reason?
God i miss this show 😭
I LOVE evolving openings like this show had! The openings of the last few episodes are definitely my favorites.
I like how they used the concept of Generation Loss for the intros
what
Am I the only one who got scared seeing the distorted intro in season six?
It is unsettling
I noticed how flashy this thing is
the end of episode 12's was so creepy
i love the little details like how it gets more distorted until its not better call saul anymore
Did Kim scare the shit out if anybody the first time you saw the episode at 2:49
Not me, perhaps though because I was watching the episode before noon.
I didn't even realise that was Kim lol. That's straight out of a horror movie
I thought that Was Marie
i like how in every episode the instruments are played slightly different

This intros represent my sanity while i was in primary school
So true
For some reason, s6e8 is the only episode of the first 10 episodes of season 6 that didn’t show a glimpse of the next episode’s image. 1:45.
Technically also S6E10
@@JKBDTS No, s6e10 just shows the first episode’s screen like the fifth season. 2:13.
@@Vagrant7z But that's not NEXT episode
@@JKBDTS You’re right, it isn’t. But a screen transition of sorts still remains which is what I’m talking about in the first place, e11-13’s episodes gotten to the point where its so corrupted they wont show anymore, while 10’s wasnt. Thinking episode 8 lacking ANY transition might have been a slight oversight from the editing team but idk.
@@Vagrant7z That may be because S6E08 is the climax of Better Call Saul and they want us to be not sure if there's gonna be another episode after that, but this theory may make no sense cuz Saul, Mike and Gustavo appear alive in Breaking Bad and in flashforwards (only Saul there though).
I really wish we got an opening where there is no song and no images, just the blue screen with text. could have been the finale or even ep 12, allowing the finale title to cut back to color halfway through or something. idk just a small missed opportunity imo
i love rhese intros, not only does it mean that jimmys slowly corrupting and turning into saul, but it also shows thst gene is playing the tape and the intros are the gene timeline progressing.
I love how at the end of the final season 6 episodes, we get a recording symbol and then a very small glimpse of the direct episode that the intro is associated with, showing that Jimmy won’t, or more accurately, can’t go back to those glory days he has to record something new, because now there’s nothing left of the old times
I just realised for the season 6 one it shows a shot thats more zoomed out and in color for like a frame.
Nice catch
I like how it gets more and more corrupted with each season
Am I the only one that thinks this is really eerie, the way it goes black and white more and more over time
BB/BCS use of thematic coloring and palettes really underlines the series’ tome and mood, esp in describing Jimmy
I finished the show. The end of an era⚖️
i like how over time, the intro gets more and more corrupt. nice detail
I like the Kim one when she drops the ashes on the balance and the falling mug , might be my favorites.
Have I ever told you the tragedy of slippin' Jimmy
The mug falling off the table one is so funny to me
I always thought the intros had something "off" about them since the beginning. As we know, BCS released after BB, so we know by then, Saul would have to go on the run no matter what happens in BCS. It's quite depressing, knowing that a lot of his happier moments in BCS will be for nothing as BB has Saul on the run. The intros give me a feeling that all these Saul Goodman brandings are what remains of his legacy as The Criminal Lawyer, especially for items such as the smashed mug, the soaked Saul card and the discarded tie in the desert, giving a sense of an impending doom, even from Season 1. And as we know, he adopted the Gene identity and lived a bleak and colourless life, even after being imprisoned as Jimmy, but widely held in high regard as Saul by the other inmates
Kim's silhouette in 6x12 scared the sht out of me when I first saw it
I swear, this show was written and realized just perfectly
I never noticed the loss of Quality until season 6
That Saul, folks...
I actually like the fact that the intros change each season from full color to both black and white and color then just black and white to show the corruption that Saul collects each season
Holy shit i didn't know there were only these intros and that they were the same in the exact episode number
I love the gradual deterioration of the visuals.
Now its time to watch Better Call Season 1-6 Part 1, Breaking Bad, El Camino, and Better Call Saul Season 6 Part 2 in that order.
