A note about the agitators they are made from lead if you use them don't lick your brushes anymore (as a lot of miniature painters do) but I like the idea of the sander solution just is to noisy for my use but a simpel and great solution on a budget.

I never licked my brushes to begin with :P However they aren't made of lead.

Split shot may contain lead. I straighten the tip of my brush with my mouth. Split shot is a no go

Lead split shot has been illegal in the UK for many a year now

I was looking at paint shaker reviews and saw this... I have a sander! It's going to get more use shaking paints than sanding wood. 😂

Some g.w. paints and a few Vallejo are having trouble... Going to drop some sinkers in them and try again. I have saved about a dozen paints so far... Great video! Can't thank you enough

I'm using a really old Black and Decker jigsaw that I have a bar clamp attached to. The bar on the clamp is basically the same cross section as a blade. The bar also had a hole in it to hang it on a nail. And it matches up to the hole in the head where the set screw goes to hold the blade. I slid the bar clamp in, ran a nail through the hole, bent the nail so it wouldn't come out, then I clamp bottles into the clamp and turn it on. Shakes the hell out of them. And it does a pretty good job too. I bought the jigsaw used, and half off at a thrift shop for maybe $3 after tax. The bar clamp is more expensive. I might have $10 to $15 in the whole rig. And it too is loud. But it's also not $100+.

A few people I know are doing the same thing with their jig saws also. I just couldn't see spending money on something that I basically already have. I';ve got a jig also, but the mouse sander can sit right next to my feet and I gotta do is pick it up, just a bit easier.

My jigsaw hangs on a hook next to me at the bench. Right next to a yard sale hairdryer. I have a couple of vibrational sanders. But I didn't have them when I came up with this rig. And I may use them when I'm out in the garage. And you're right, why spend money when you already have something that works? Thanks for sharing this.

"The bar on the clamp is basically the same cross section as a blade."
Yeah. For me it all fell apart on the word "basically".
First I looked all over creation for a clamp with a shaft that just fit in the jigsaw. No luck. Then I glued the clamp to a jigsaw blade. Then I "welded" the clamp to a jigsaw blade with solder. When that didn't work I set out to grind down the clamp end so it really fit and didn't "basically" fit/not fit.
And then when my shirt was taking spark shrapnel from the grinder, I finally stood up and said, "Eff this. I'm rich. Too rich to fight an effing piece of Chinese aluminum in a hot garage, anyway. I've spent too much time and money trying to save time and money." Then I went inside and ordered the stupid vortex on Amazon.
For the duration where the clamp stayed attached to the jigsaw bit (for weeks at a time) it did work great.
I'm all for an elegant solution. The palm sander looks interesting. The sound would piss the cats off, but it looks like an elegant solution.

What is it that you put on the mouse sander , to shake the paint

I used a piece of felt folded over twice but after several uses it started coming apart. Now I use an old sock folded over and it's lasted much longer.

do you do the same thing with the walmart paint thats in the container in the background

    • @MechHeadStudios
      @MechHeadStudios  Před 3 lety

Yes I do as does my daughter for her canvas painting. I add an agitator (a fishing weight like I do with my Vallejo and Citadel paints) and they do come out smoother than just shaking the bottles.
