DJ seems to be in a much better place since the SRS interview.
So many ppl give these operators crap for the interviews, books and podcasts, but it helps them vent it out. And by putting it all out there to millions of people the therapeutic value must lighten their mental load.
Great job DJ
The only problem with people is thinking they know where they are at over the internet via podcasts…..
The code of silence thing is bullshit. These dudes have lived through hell for a very long time and they need to let it out. There's nothing wrong with using your resumé. Just don't give away tactics, techniques and procedures and definitely do NOT namedrop guys that want to remain in the shadows after retiring. Absolutely don't do that. If they stick with that, they'll be fine.
Another thing that gets me is all the Delta fan boys that 💩 all over DEVGRU for writing books and doing interviews even though there's a shit ton of Delta guys doing the same exact thing. They may not be doing it on the same scale as DEVGRU, but that's because people are more interested in DEVGRU than Delta. They do everything Delta does plus the whole ocean thing. They're just a better, more well rounded Tier 1 unit in my opinion.
@@IAmNotFamousAnymore uhm, like who? doing podcasts is one thing, that's just a conversation. but writing books, movies, tv-series etc, that's all SEALS
We loved having DJ on.
DJ is a different level entirely, his interview w/Sean legitimately helped me refocused as a man. Truly life changing. I’ve also learned some real cool shit from him in regard to tactics, nobody better to learn from. I can always hear him when I run CQB Drills & I approach a threshold
“Keep distance from the threshold”. And be a fucking pro.
That's my favorite SRS episode
@@Apollothecrowing
If I had one wish, it might be that every American would watch SRS. Our country would see rapid, massive, improvement
Also, Eddie Penney’s was good too if you like DJ’s
Same. That interview changed me
I’m always locked in when he speaks. He can just keep you engaged the entire time.
Thank you so much for this interview. I spent 22yrs in Fire/Ems. I always allowed my men to come to me if they were having issues. While doing that. I was chief of my department at the time. When i started going down the drain after a number of bad calls that happened back to back to back. We brought in a crisis debriefing team. It was the 5th time they came to debrief is after bad calls. I use to be the quiet one. I would let everyone else talk. The final debriefing that we did. I snapped and lost it. I had a counselor chase me down and forced me to go to therapy were I was diagnosed with PTSD, Anxiety and depression and was pulled off the only job that I have every loved. That lead me down a dark path with addiction and it had taken me years to get my life just back to the halfway part.
allowed? you were a chief? lolololo where did you volunteer at there larper?
This is the second interview I listened to with DJ. Never get tired of hearing his perspective on issues. His attitude / presence is motivating. DJ is spot on, most people. especially men, don't embrace you in the tough times, they kick you to the curb, especially as you age. It's the new society we live in. Speaking from first-hand experience, I’ve had multiple TBI‘s, and PTSD events, loss of. multiple siblings, and 2 near-death experiences. And at the age of 60 I’m still fighting to overcome the setbacks. The systems in place don’t recognize the nuances that DJ reference. Clearly, a different approach is needed to have sustainable impact.
It happens in law enforcement as well; regardless of they being local, county, state or federal law enforcement.
I remember when I came into the Marines during the GWOT era, and literally DJ is the exact replica of my seniors. Just hardcore men who instilled such a spartan mindset, and that pro mentality.
Literally changed my whole life from being an abused kid in every aspect including sexually, got beat up in school, publicly humiliated, tried to commit suicide twice, to coming in during the GWOT era, deploying, government agency for years, and now I’m going to achieve more dreams. That mindset is so fucking contagious and I love it!
Also DJ I need that shirt!
These guys really are modern day spartan warriors and vikings
Damn, I’m sorry to hear that shit bro. God bless your soul. I pray that god watches over you and leads you to having a much better life from the past.never give up, just know that god doesn’t give up on you. Just keep pushing harder to reach your goals, and to be successful in the things you strive for.
do you know where he got that tshirt from? i looked at gbrs group gear but cant find it there

Dude is a superhero. If you havent heard his interview on the Sean Ryan show its one of the craziest stories ever. They breezed over it in this probably because he already covered it. Worth a watch
DJ SHIPLEY, I hope you see this. I have always wondered how your relationship was with your dad. Not to be nosey but because I grew up in a broken home if addicts, and alcoholic with no education. I joined the Army at 17 went in became a combat engineer, hit SAPPER SCHOOL, JUMP SCHOOL, and Air Assault. For me I felt so good getting out of my home. When I got out I found your dad and I always wished that was my dad because then I could have been a SEAL possibly or a RANGER, SARC just next level shit. But thank you for the interview. I enjoy watching everything I can with you in it. I also had my battle with depression, anxiety and substance issues. Now I’m doing good and thriving. Your videos help me keep moving forward, thank you! SALUTE
Now from what I have read his relationship is rocky with his parents. But who knows if that is true. Dude seems very genuine and we all make mistakes
@@Galax960 that’s what i heard.
@@aaronkeener95 I have heard that. I try to give him the benefit of the doubt because no matter what u dig up dudes a true American hero and badass. Sounds like 20 years of war got to him like it does most operators.
@@aaronkeener95Lmfao you are everywhere aren’t you in his videos, do you even think about how sad you look? I’m guessing your lady was one of the ladies he hooked up with 😂 the difference between you and him is he is the one getting interviewed and you are the one watching him and taking so much time and negativity energy to comment about him 🤦🏻♂️
@@aaronkeener95You really don’t understand how SEAL’s work, he got tortured even worse than everyone else because his dad was a SEAL. They purposely go after you when you come from a background like that but you definitely wouldn’t know that first hand.
Single mom here of two amazing kids! Been walkin’ uphill most my life and been in a dog fight with anxiety and depression since my teens. The ego death is the absolute best thing that can happen. Thank you for this amazing conversation and helping our military! God Bless you! ❤🙏🏻
I can’t believe I’m reading what u wrote. I’m going through it right now and have been and I am searching hard at the moment.. Deep deep thoughts lately and what you wrote I’m with you 100% God bless you Shan!
I read your comment: God Bless you! I have depression and anxiety as well- it has strengthened my faith and made me dependent on my relationship with God!
He is so on point about the connection of physical fitness and mental health.
From an infantry marine, fire dept, to deep trouble. This gave me goosebumps and dj has been an awesome change and role model
20/10 your quality of interviewing is on point. You do a good job on letting him speak, being attentive and responding appropriately. Even the camera transitions are on point. Even though I have to put my phone brightness down because the bright lighting affects me. As a veteran, I can say this episode absolutely helped me.
The part about dials and switches is gold, thank you very much!
Amazing interview brother I've been following DJ for 3 or 4 years that man is a man's man he's so cool and humble and his AR work is beautiful
Simply a brilliant interview...the questions were spot-on and the answers were filled with wisdom and inspiration. Imagine showing this to a high school class on the first day...and then building a curriculum around it all...THAT'S education!
That was a great interview! Thank you for sharing that with everyone.
Imagine the mental shock of going from being a level 1 operator to a regular civilian. 🤯
You guys don’t even know how much this knowledge and conversation has helped me and opened my eyes in so many ways guys we need this sometimes we’re going through some darkness that we can’t understand and it’s more difficult having a family or growing up without a father that could’ve guided you to be a better family men …. This means a lot
Thank you so much for giving us this interview! Amazing to hear what DJ has been through and how he survives.
Thank you. DJ and the GBRS crew has helped me on my path to focus, calm and loyalty to myself and my mental health issues. Thank you so much.
A really interesting interview, I am glad I found it on CZcams.
These are my type of “celebrities”! DJ is an absolute legend!
Gosh dang I needed this more than you know. We are all battling something. I’m going through it currently and in the past. Just keep fighting don’t ever give up.
Thanks for this conversation!
Thank you Dj for unknowingly helping me become a better father & husband, overall a better man. Anytime I have an issue I find myself looking through your SRS interview and the answer is almost always there. I stubbled on this and now my fn mind is blown 🤯 thank you for everything you do because it truly makes a difference in men everywhere, we are all looking forward too the next one 🙏🏽
I could not stop watching for 3 hours straight! Great interview!!
Awesome Interview. DJ is such an awesome person for being so genuine
DJ is awesome - it’s not easy when your dad is a legend.
I love to hear DJ talk about how real it is over in Iraq and Afghanistan. People who haven’t been there and in combat just do not understand the reality of the situation. It’s a different type of war than what America had ever fought and WAR is something that is unexplainable to somebody who hasn’t been through it. Also, the IED/EFP situation is pure luck or unlucky if your vehicle gets hit. That EFP doesn’t know your rank, color, creed, sex, or anything. It just shreds and kills. Great video.
Absolute Legend, things his been through and is a real man, I've learned so much from this, thank you
Mr. Shipley is a true hero. He fought and warched team mates die for every one of the rights we continue to piss away on a daily basis. I cannot begin to express my gratitude to him and everyone else that served for us.
Thank you for your honesty on your mental health issues… always praying for our service members and first responders…
Great interview man. I subscribed to your channel now glad it poped up. I wish i knew about DJ in my youth...would have saved me a lot of headaches and mistakes. All about that mindset.
loved the podcast. its a fenomenal masterclass on how to deal with stress and downfalls in your life, and it comes from a top tier athlete. thanks

DJ you are my favorite SEAL. Thank you for your service ! Hooyah !
Brilliant thanks
Thank you, DJ.
Thank you Brother
Love the perspective. This will be life changing for so many people I'm sure. Thanks
I watch this to sharpen my understanding for what soldiers with PTSD go/went through. I'm a teacher in Germany and I prepare an event for our German heroes at my school. Soldiers attend our event to enlighten our students, and even one special operator from our KSK visits us. I'm hearing all this and I'm speechless in certain phases of this interview. My only wish is that our school's "Veteran Day" makes our heroes happy because they get their well-deserved attention. God bless all our soldiers.
Watch DJ’s interview on the Shawn Ryan show. He gets really deep into his PTSD and how dark it got for him. Best interview ever.

This is the best interview DJ has done! The place he is in is awesome! BZ Bro...
Glad you enjoyed it!
DJ Boy oh boy you hit the nail on the head with that shit. I was paramedic for 20+ years. I try to talk to the young guy/gals coming in on how bad it will get if you don’t talk to somebody. Call after call of dealing with death on all different levels. There are still calls if I talk about them I turn into an emotional wreck. Both sad and happy calls. Poignant stuff will get me too. Crazy I will have tears running down my face but not be sad.
Powerful session. I have been in the Fire Service for 25 years, and I wish I had heard the Dial-up / Dial speech when I started my career. My entire career I've been dialed up to the point the knob has fallen off.. DJ thanks for teaching us.
Prior LEO here…so freaking true. I couldn’t seek mental health treatment because I knew that would be the end of my career. We feel stuck. The only outlet I had was my small circle and thank God, my mentor.
Excellent presentation!
